You have to go into playoff series expecting them to go to the winner take all final game. if your team can close it out early consider that a gift. But a big reason that the Brewers record of 18-19 since their 14 game winning streak is unsettling is that the playoffs don’t include teams like the Pirates and Angels. The Brewers swept series against those teams but are 12-19 against teams that were playoff contenders when the Brewers played them.

We’re going to the game tomorrow and I don’t want it to come down to the Brewers last gasp to hold on to what looked like a comfortable lead I’d rather have it be the Reds needing a win while the Brewers have their position locked up. But I’m not counting on help from the Twins, who cashed in their chips at the trade deadline.

Hoping for the Mets to lose again today. Then if the Reds win tonight maybe they’ll take the day off tomorrow.

It doesn’t matter what order you put them when literally nobody is hitting well.. Hard to string 3 hits together.

This begs the question of who is the better team in a given series. As others have mentioned, playoff baseball is a significantly different animal than regular season baseball, and the team with the better record in the regular season might not be better structured to win a postseason series over an opponent that won fewer regular season games. With injuries to key players or trade deadline moves a team's playoff roster might be significantly different than it was at times during the regular season. And a team with multiple veteran superstar and future HOF players might be more potent in a short playoff series than one that scrapped and clawed its way through the regular season with several relatively inexperienced players. Despite having the best regular season record in MLB, I'm sure the Brewers would be underdogs against several teams (such as the Dodgers and Phillies) and only slight favorites at best against any playoff team. Maybe the randomness of baseball will prove to be a good thing for the Brewers.

Tigers lost to the Guardians again to fall a game behind. They are getting close to missing the playoffs entirely. Not quite in the same category as the Tigers, but the Blue Jays who had a 5 game lead in the AL East with 11 games to play (incidentally the same position the Brewers were in last week) have lost 6 of 7 and are now tied with the Yankees.

Several games with playoff implications to follow tonight. Skenes vs Greene figures to be a good one. Unless they give him a desperation start on three days rest Sunday the Brewers won’t be seeing Greene. -

Except for the Jansen HR that might be a prototype for how the Brewers will have to win playoff games. Scratch out a couple of runs and get good performances from 5 or 6 pitchers. -

I see you focused on the absurdity of placing a bet on the number 1 seed instead of producing evidence that.I posted anything that showed panic or the world coming to an end or anything close to that. For what the odds would be today someone would have to be a fool to place $1000 hoping for what, a $20 profit? Because you think I haven’t been around the site much it shouldn’t be hard for you to search my post history to find an example. But I guess name calling is a lot easier. It would be interesting to see an example of what you consider “panic”.

The fact that it does happen, and more frequently than a lot of people seem to realize, is why some people take an "it isn't over until it's over" approach. Calling that "panic" or "freaking out about the end of the world" seems more than a little overdramatic.

Ha Ha. I am here frequently, and I don't consider simply recognizing that a race isn't over as "panic" or "freaking out about the end of the world". Apparently your standards are different. Maybe you can show an example of one of my posts that indicates panic. Did you put a grand on the Brewers getting the number 1 seed, or is that just more hyperbolic bluster?

Not sure where you saw “an awful lot of panic”. Especially about the 1 seed which a number of people seem to be relatively indifferent about. Your use of the word “panic” doesn’t seem to square up with the dictionary definition. But, at least you hedge your bet by saying the one seed is “pretty much” locked up.

In 2021 many of the posts about the offense started with “since the Adames trade”. The offense started out bad, but when Adames joined the team and had the greatest 3 months of his career, the offense was much better. But, in September, after building up a huge lead in the division, Adames and the offense went flat and four days off between the final game and the first playoff game didn’t change things.

It’s not just September. The Brewers have been very mediocre since the 14 game winning streak ended in mid August, especially against teams that were in playoff contention when the Brewers played them.

It’s about time to pull out the studies on whether a stumbling finish is a foreshadowing of an early playoff exit. I remember people posting those in 2021 when the Brewers limped to the finish line. The conclusion was that there was no correlation between how a team finishes and how they perform in the postseason. Of course the 2021 team kept limping.

I would argue vehemently, and I think with a very strong case, that this is NOT the best team in Brewers history and that it has not had the best regular season, even if they do break the franchise record for wins in a season. I don’t think it’s even close when you compare this team to the 1982 team that had two Hall of Famers in the prime of their careers plus two others near the end of their careers and added another in September for the stretch run. The competition in the AL East of 1982 was a lot tougher than what the Brewers have faced this year.

Does anybody really care about the franchise record for wins in a season? The season will be remembered much more for what happens in the playoffs. And if they flame out early again, it will still be memorable as the year the Brewers surprised everyone by winning the division and the incredible stretch from June through mid August regardless of the final regular season win total. If there's a reason I want to see more wins it's to get that 1 seed that might have a tangible benefit if the Brewers reach the NLCS and face the Phillies.

Of course anyone would like to have the cushion. But there are posters who respond with words like "fearful" and "panic" at the suggestion that a race isn't over even when a team has what looks like a comfortable cushion.

I guess the bottom line is that there are significant question marks on both sides that have been revealed in the last 6 weeks.

Nobody has said that NOBODY could possibly be better than Ortiz. The issue is that many people think that nobody on the current roster would be better. I get that you are pushing Monasterio because he had a good week when Ortiz was out. But his career record should tell you that he isn’t a long term solution.

I’m starting to get nervous about how so many of the Brewers hitters have looked for the last few weeks. They aren’t hitting many HRs and have too many hitters scuffling to string together hits The ghost of 2021 is starting to haunt me. Is this lineup going to be able to score runs when faced with the best pitchers on the best teams in playoff games?

Part of the point of this is that, even if the Tigers end up winning the division, it will not be the cakewalk it looked like a few weeks ago. From a fan’s perspective, when your team has a lead like that you don’t want to deal with the kind of anxiety that Tigers fans are having now. I do think that projection models can’t anticipate the factor of a team feeling the pressure and spiraling into a losing streak. There could also be factors like a key injury or a worn out pitching staff that could make a team perform more poorly than they have the rest of the season.
