  1. The bigger immediate concern is how Miley will respond to being warmed up and ready to go and then shutting down.
  2. You have to wonder if that is related to his struggles. Put Frelick in the leadoff spot and soldier on.
  3. One of the first things that jumps out at me when I look at these numbers is the number of plate appearances with RISP. If you look at that the Brewers are 26th and most of the teams around them are terrible teams. I have said this before but I think the Brewers bigger problem is not generating enough scoring chances, not that they are horrible at converting them. The other thing I note is that the Braves are 20th in PA with RISP. But they can get away with that because of the number of HRs they hit. A team that doesn’t get a lot of runners in scoring position and doesn’t hit a lot of HRs is likely to be a poor scoring team even if they are league average in delivering on those chances. The Brewers are in that category.
  4. I always like to compare the Brewers to playoff contenders, not the whole league.
  5. I got a phone call I wanted to take around the 6th inning with the score 2-2. So, I paused the game there and when the call ended I watched the rest of the game with judicious use of fast forward. It was fun seeing those runs come in rapid succession, and having the last guy in the bullpen come in with a 6 run lead and finish it without needing Williams to start throwing.
  6. Every time I see Adames hit one like that I think maybe it will teach him how good he could be if he would take pitches to RF instead of trying to pull everything. But I’ve learned that he’s not likely to change.
  7. Dominguez is smoking hot and a big reason why the Yankees have won 8 of 10. Too bad the Brewers didn’t play the Yankees a few weeks or a month ago.
  8. Makes sense to put Tellez at DH to give him a shot or two at the porch in RF. Even though Dominguez has been hot in his MLB debut I would vote for walking Judge every time up unless and until you get a lead of at least a few runs. With that lineup letting Judge beat you would be criminal
  9. One out away with a runner on first, Happ at the plate and Bellinger on deck. 😬
  10. It’s up to Sewald to protect the one run lead. Correction: before the break the DBacks announcers said Sewald was coming in, but Gallen is still out there.
  11. Because the runners were going on contact and Suzuki slid to make the catch, when you see where the runners were when he was still in his slide there is no way he could have gotten up and thrown the runner out. The replay umpires can, and did, award the run. if there was any question about a possible play at the plate they could also put the runners back at second and third..
  12. The replay review got it right. A sinking liner with men on first and second and two out ruled a catch on the field, but overturned as a trap. With the runners going on contact the runner on second was awarded the first run of the game.
  13. Interesting replay review coming up where a reversal could (and should) give the DBacks a run.
  14. Now a double shutout, one hitter through 6.
  15. Two out single in the 6th breaks a string of 17 straight retired, but Tallion still has a shutout through 6. Would be a shame for the DBacks to waste a solid start from Gallen with unfavorable matchups for AZ the next two days.
  16. Double no hitter through 4 at Wrigley.
  17. Some times it’s not who you play but when you play them. Are the Brewers really the better team on paper if you consider the pitching matchup, how the Yankees have played with and without Judge in the lineup, and that the Yankees have won 8 of their last 10? Whet do the oddsmakers say? Do they think the Brewers should win and make them the betting favorite? IMHO this will be a tough series and I would take 2 out of 3 happily. Hopefully the DBacks can take at least one more from the Cubs and the Brewers will get out of the weekend with no less than a 2 game lead.
  18. I was there that day and remember vividly Boomer’s line drive blast to the back of the bleachers. There were several memorable wins over the Yankees at County Stadium in the 70’s.
  19. DBacks get a runner on third with none out in the first and respond with 3 Ks, including a gift third strike to the last hitter. Much like watching the Brewers.
  20. Just because someone’s opinion reflects something that is not mathematically likely doesn’t make it “nonsense”. It just might be something that you could disagree with (respectfully, if possible).
  21. I think we are saying the same thing. Let me put it this way: If going into the final series the Brewers are ahead by 2 games or 3 games, the Cubs would have to sweep the series to take the division. If going into the final series the Brewers are ahead by one game, the teams are tied, or the Cubs are ahead by one game, the winner of the series will win the division. If going into the series the Cubs lead by 2 or 3 games, the Brewers would have to sweep the series to win the division. That’s why I set a 4 game lead going into that series. Being ahead by 3 games going into series is basically the same as being ahead by 2 games. Being ahead or behind by 1 game going into the series are both basically the same as being tied. But clearly, being ahead by 2 or 3 games would be better than being ahead by 1 game.
  22. Because of the tiebreaker situation, the real target for the Brewers will be to get to 4 games ahead of the Cubs before the final series. Being ahead by 3 games would be the functional equivalent of being up by 2 games, just like being ahead by 1 game would be the same as being tied or behind by 1 game.
  23. The essence of this comment is that these teams gained ground on the Brewers because they played better. It seems like that’s what the best teams are supposed to do. The Brewers in 2018, 2019, and 2021 had extended streaks of good play of their own. Their plus .700 play in September of 2018 and 2019 pushed them into the playoffs. In 2021 they were 52-27 (.658) from June through August and built up a cushion that allowed them to hold off the Cardinals in spite of their 17 game winning streak. If the Cubs continue to win at their current pace they will likely win the division and they will deserve it. The Brewers put themselves in this position by playing .500 ball from May through July. If they had played like a team that deserved to be in the playoffs they would have a cushion now.
