  1. Dunn bats left handed. The starting pitcher is right handed.
  2. Three days catching in a row for Contreras. I assume with off day tomorrow he will also catch home opener.
  3. That’d be something. Hard to imagine Ortiz, Dunn, Turang and Monasterio all getting steady AB. I assume two will eventually excel above the others.
  4. Assumptions: Contreras at DH Hoskins at 1B Frelick in CF Turang at 2B (3 hits in 7 AB) Ortiz at 3B (Can Dunn get every start against RHP?) Yelich, Adames and Chourio should be a given. Cant imagine any of them need two days off.
  5. Annual question: Are the Pirates for real this year?
  6. Uribe on back to back days? Payamps for ‘by committee’?
  7. In March 2024, Adames might be better than Hoskins. Plus, harder to plunk someone in the second inning?
  8. In fairness, does LH Frelick stand greater chance of getting on-base more often than RH Chourio today?
  9. Makes you wonder if we had drafted Yelich and developed him as a prospect, how long until we would have let him hit lefties? I don’t recall shielding Prince Fielder from lefties very often, if ever.
  10. We take right and left handedness very seriously.
  11. Jake Bauers with 1.738 lifetime OPS against Severino in 7 PA. Last appearance in 2018 as member of the Rays. Adames with 1.025 OPS versus Severino in 10 PA. link
  12. The slide was legal, even McNeil acknowledged that in postgame. “There’s dirty slides, there’s clean slides, there’s in-between slides,” McNeil added. “It’s a gray line. It wasn’t called. It’s unfortunate. … It was a legal slide, so I just want to leave it at that.”
  13. Memory, 100% Seems like a waste of time to cheat
  14. Anyone get lower than 0.01% today?
  15. Do we shield Frelick from 35-year old lefties this year?
  16. Career numbers versus Quintana Yelich: .586 OPS (33 PA) Hoskins: 1.133 OPS (15 PA) Adames: 1.355 OPS (11 PA) Contreras: 2.500 OPS (4 PA) Sanchez: .250 OPS (4 PA) Bauers: 2.000 OPS (1 PA) link
  17. He did have a lot of middle middle location, though. At least, in the early innings that I was paying attention to.
  18. Good: Jesse Winker lines a single to right. Bad: Tries to turn it into a ‘hustle double’
  19. A lot of middle middle location from Burnes in his first inning. He has not performed well on Opening Days. Brewers win the trade.
  20. 42 starts from Houser, Teheran, Lauer and Junk 32 starts from Burnes 11 starts from Woodruff That’s a lot of turns in the rotation to fill but most of these innings will be at better than replacement level. 2023 starts
  21. I think the Brewers can conceivably be in first place after today without playing a game 🙂
  22. Just swapping Burnes with a replacement level starter? Plus, Devin Williams will be replaced with a less elite but reliable arm?
  23. We can legitimately be better at every offensive position in 2024.
  24. @NYM 2-1 (we are the better team) MIN 1-1 (seems right) SEA 2-1 (not sold on Seattle being great) @CIN 2-2 (road split) @BAL 1-2 (road loss) SD 2-1 @ STL 1-2 (because Cardinals) @ PIT 2-2 (we can split the Pirates) NYY 2-1 (overrated) TB 1-1 16-14 record
