  1. If one of Jeffress, Rogers and Odorizzi are included in the deal I am hoping it is Jeffress. I feel like he is the least likely of the bunch to make it as a starter.
  2. I look forward to the Link Reports every morning. Thanks to everyone for their efforts.
  3. I'm going to the PGA Championship on Sunday and hope to see the finish. If weather delays cause the event to be finished on Monday, how do they handle tickets for the Monday event? Do they sell more tickets? Can people who had Sunday tickets go on Monday?
  4. The grades listed are from before this season. The only thing new are his comments. Sickels' will have a new list with new grades in the coming offseason.
  5. "The Brewers have signed 6-foot-2 Dominican righthander Milton Gomez for $350,000. Gomez, who has passed his background investigation with Major League Baseball, is a 16-year-old from Santiago who has shown an average fastball that has been up to 92 mph and feel for a curveball." LINK Not sure if this is the correct thread for this, if not please feel free to move.
  6. We have Rivas, Rogers and Peralta in AA. They could be in MLB sometime in 2011 if all goes well.
  7. Reports from last night's AA debut for Peralta had him sitting 92-93 and hitting 96.
  8. Loved to read that story Maas. Can't say thanks enough for all the great information I get to read from you.
  9. I don't have a link, but word is Kurt Thomas signed a one-year deal with the Bulls today.
  10. Don't have a scouting report, but I remember hearing something about him being in major legal trouble for something. EDIT: He's being charged for a shooting death in the Dominican Republic. Link
  11. I suppose the obvious answer to Monday's start is to piggyback Capuano and Villanueva. The not so obvious answer is to bring up Rivas to make that one start. Of course that would mean another roster move, either Cain back down or Gomez down presumably. Since either would have to stay down for 10 days, the day after Rivas pitches, assuming Gallardo goes Tuesday, then Rivas goes back down. Rivas is on the DL.
  12. This is why Gomez should be basically playing every day for the rest of the season, instead of just 2-3 days a week. I'd really like to see if we have anything in Gomez or not. If he ends up not getting better at the plate, I'd have no problem seeing him dealt as a throw in in a trade, or just DFAed in favor of Cain or someone next year. I also agree with your premise that upgrading first base defensively could help our infield a great deal. Prince has really been disappointing to me with his glove work this season, when I thought he had turned a corner last year. Why would the Brewers DFA Gomez? First, he has years of relatively inexpensive team control left. Second, he has options left. If he doesn't get better at the plate I would much rather have him as a 4th OF in MLB or working on his hitting in AAA then just getting rid of him for nothing.
  13. Also makes the Central division very winnable now for the Bucks. The Bulls should be a little better as well, but I like the Bucks chances.
  14. strawbossisevil, I definitely agree with you that Gooden is not a "dreadful" defender. I think he is, and will be, just fine. The only thing I don't like about points per touches for a "defensive stopper" is that they are usually matched up against the opposing teams top scorer, so they are by nature going to give up more by going against them rather than a role player on that team. LRMAM is definitely a better defensive player than Gooden.
  15. Apparently you and I have different opinions on Hammond, and that's fine, but I don't see how people can claim that he has made all of these bad moves when he took over a terrible team in salary hell and has quickly turned them into a 46 win team with a bright future.
  16. Had the opportunity to unload M Redd twice. Once was when he was even out with the ACL tear. He didn't want to give up Sessions in the deal. (who he then let walk for nothing) And??? Who says we were being offered anything that would have ended up benefiting the team. Redd's contract is currently an asset as some team is going to want that expiring contract at some point. Could of unloaded RJ for Raef Lafrentz's Insurance covered expiring. Decided to keep him for the entire season. Did somewhat make up for his mistake by unloading RJ in the offseason. As you said, we were going to get pretty much nothing for him then and we pretty much got nothing for him later on. I don't have a problem with how he handled this. As you said JA #8 overall. One of the biggest draft busts of the decade. Nearly every player picked after him is better. Biggest busts of the decade?!? We are talking about the 8th overall pick, not blowing a top 3 pick. There are plently of draft picks every single season that don't turn out for teams. And as I mentioned earlier, he picked up LRMAM in the 2nd round who has had better production than some of those players drafted shortly after Alexander's spot. Also, Alexander was part of the trade that brought Salmons to Milwaukee so he did prove to be somewhat useful. 2 year contracts to scrub journeyman Malik Allen and Francisco Elson. After yesterday, he now has a history on going too long on FA deals. Yeah, I'm also upset about the contracts to Malik Allen and Francisco Elson. These contracts have been dragging down the franchise for the last two years. Signed Salim Stoudemire towards the end of a lost season, basically lighting his owners money on fire. This is seriously one of your bullet-point complaints? They signed him with 5 games left that season. The plan was to get him into their summer program right away to see if we would offer them anything for the following season. I'm sure a few thousand dollars really burned a hole in his pocket. Turned down Sessions for Conley and Lakers 2010 first round pick. There is our backup pg if he sells Herb on that deal. Do you have a source to confirm this? Either way, I liked Sessions at the time and probably wouldn't have been happy with the trade. I was hoping we were going to keep Sessions over Ridnour for last season too. But thankfully I'm not the GM because Ridnour and Jennings worked out pretty well last year. Let Sessions and CV walk for no compensation. Both got nice, multi year deals. Clearly had value. The Knicks almost traded Gallinari and Lee for Sessions. That's how much value he had to some teams. You're right they walked for nothing because they were offered big contracts that weren't worth matching. I don't think the absence of Sessions or CV hurt the team this season. In fact, I'm sure it helped.
  17. Why would he have been a runaway "razzie" award winner the year before? The Bucks were in a terrible spot financially and he did a remarkable job of putting us in a position to be able to afford the players/contracts we currently have. Yeah, he missed on 1st round pick Joe Alexander, but he found a gem in the 2nd with LRMAM. He also signed Bogut to a contract extension that offseason, which is working out rather well.
  18. I wouldn't worry about his defense. With Skiles coaching, he'll realize real quick that he is going to have to bust his tail on D or he won't be playing as many minutes as he'd like. Bogut, Jennings and Salmons are the leaders on the team and I think they will make sure everyone else realizes the importance of their team concept...defense.
  19. Here's a nice article that sums up my thoughts on the Gooden deal as well. Still want to hear the details. I heard a rumor that the five years go $5 mil, $5 mil, $6 mil and two option years at $8 mil. If that is the case then it was a great signing, but we'll have to wait and see I guess. Hopefully something definitive is announced soon.
  20. 5 years is a lot, but supposedly there is a buyout for that 5th year. Also there are supposedly $5 mil in incentives. I'm hoping the $5 mil incentives are included in that $39 mil. We'll have to wait and see on the final details. Either way, the Bucks have incredible depth.
  21. That would be awesome if it's only 3 years guaranteed. That would make me like the signing even more. Hopefully there will be some news on Salmons today.
  22. He is a completely different type of player than Ers or LRMAM. I think this gives us a much bigger presence a PF and makes our depth fantastic. Again, I'm not crazy about the 5 years, but I don't think it's terrible. Hammonds has tried to trade for Gooden in the past and now signed him to this deal, so obviously he sees something he likes. And at this point I'm giving the benefit of doubt to Hammonds on almost any move.
