  1. At least he found a bit more unique way to hit into it! I missed it. How did it happen?
  2. Todd Coffey has the most consecutive scoreless appearances at the start of his Brewer career: 08-09 Coffey 16 2006 Fransisco Cordero 14 1977 Bob McClure 11 1972 Earl Stephenson 10 2004 Mike Adams 9 1995 Kevin Wickander 9 1994 Jeff Bronkey 8 72-73 Ray Newman 8 And the most consecutive appearances starting a Brewer career without allowing an earned run: 08-09 Coffey 16 2006 Cordero 14 1992 Mike Fetters 13 1977 McClure 12 1995 Wickander 12 1972 Stephenson 10 2004 Adams 9 1971 Marcelino Lopez 9 And no, I don't believe in jinxes. I hope we don't need him tonight.
  3. If the winning prize is truly World Series tickets, they must have read this thread that questions why it is called the "World" Series because they are strangely calling it the Fall Series. Makes me question if they could substitute any playoff tickets or even a regular season game at the end of the season because any of those could qualify as a "fall series." Also, I know I'm being picky here, but I think the thread title misrepresents the contest- guessing what team will have the most wins by May 1 doesn't qualify as "trivia" to me. I got to the site looking for a trivia question and couldn't find it.
  4. Tony Graffanino actually made the Indians' opening-day roster at the last minute as an injury replacement. Ron Villone was signed a minor-league contract by the Mets. Scott Podsednik signed a minor-league contract by the White Sox. Nelson Figueroa back with the Mets, of course to pitch against the Brewers today.
  5. Wow he's a magician. They sure are using him a lot though. I hope his arm holds up.
  6. The Cordero deal is the Carlos Lee deal; Cruz was thrown in along with Lee for Cordero, Mench, and Nix. We got him from the A's for Keith Ginter.
  7. Wow they are starting to expand the role for DiFelice- two nights in a row. That's what happens when you are one of few reliable relievers...
  8. I know it hasn't really been the offense that has cost any wins this year, but it is interesting that the ones letting us down offensively so far, aren't: -0 for September Corey Hart -perennial underachiever Rickie Weeks -can't hit righties Bill Hall, or -strikeout king Mike Cameron it's our 3-4-5 hitters!
  9. Providing roster updates on all most who were in a major-league camp this spring (though I likely missed some): Notable to me: Laynce Nix making the Reds outfield, Zach Jackson in the Indians bullpen, Chad Moeller found another backup catcher job, the Rays have both of our former Gabes to form a possible outfield platoon, names like Ray Durham, Richie Sexson, Kevin Mench and Matt Wise oddly missing. Made 25-man roster: Carlos Lee - Astros Dana Eveland - A's Marco Scutaro - Blue Jays Lyle Overbay - Blue Jays Jeff Bennett - Braves Luis Vizcaino - Cubs Doug Davis - Diamondbacks Scott Linebrink - White Sox Nelson Cruz - Rangers Chris Coste - Phillies Matt Stairs - Phillies Mark Loretta - Dodgers Guillermo Mota - Dodgers Claudio Vargas - Dodgers Jorge delaRosa - Rockies Glendon Rusch - Rockies Gary Sheffield - Mets (after release by Tigers) Wes Helms - Marlins Jamey Wright - Royals RA Dickey - Twins Craig Breslow - Twins Brian Shouse - Rays Grant Balfour - Rays Gabe Kapler - Rays Gabe Gross - Rays Henry Blanco - Padres Chad Moeller - Orioles Zach Jackson - Indians David Weathers - Reds Francisco Cordero - Reds Laynce Nix - Reds Russell Branyan - Mariners Ronnie Belliard - Nationals Julian Tavarez - Nationals Saul Rivera - Nationals Dennis Sarfate - Orioles CC Sabathia - Yankees DL: Mike Adams - Padres Optioned: Brian Wolfe - Blue Jays Joe Thatcher - Padres Robinson Cancel - Mets Luis Pena - Mariners Assigned to minor league camp: Sal Fasano - Rockies Scott Podsednik - Rockies Justin Lehr - Phillies Ozzie Chavez - Phillies Brian Mazone - Dodgers Derrick Turnbow - Rangers JC Boscan - Braves Alejandro Machado - Twins Mark Johnson - Cubs Chad Fox - Cubs Jose Capellan - Astros Chad Paronto - Astros Lou Palmisano - Astros Javier Valentin - Nationals Jorge Sosa - Nationals Nelson Figueroa - Mets Elmer Dessens - Mets Jose Valentin - Mets Max St. Pierre - Tigers Matt LaPorta - Indians Tomo Ohka - Indians Greg Aquino - Indians Tony Graffanino - Indians Michael Brantley - Indians Adam Pettyjohn - Reds Kevin Barker - Reds Joe Dillon - A's Kyle Phillips - Blue Jays Jason Childers - Rays Randy Choate - Rays Callix Crabbe - Mariners Chris Woodward - Mariners Will Inman - Padres Eliezer Alfonzo - Padres Released: Edward Campusano - Cubs Paul Bako - Cubs Ron Villone - Mets Valerio De Los Santos - Mets Jay Gibbons - Marlins Geoff Jenkins - Phillies Retired: Corey Koskie - Cubs
  10. Back to the original "uni watch" I don't understand the navy on the Red Sox road jerseys. They're the RED sox and there's barely any red.
  11. Very concerned about Riske. Nothing that I can tell points to him turning it around any time soon. I'm more concerned that his contract is keeping him on the team ahead of more deserving pitchers. I hope that I am wrong and he ends up being a serviceable option out of the bullpen.
  12. Dickie Noles was the more recent one in September 1987 from the Cubs to the Tigers for a PTBNL. After the season he was returned to the Cubs. Baseball-reference calls it a loan. What's odd is that Noles became a free agent later that off-season and signed with the Orioles. Not sure why the Cubs wanted him back.
  13. I'm in a league that needs several players yet and is supposed to draft tomorrow night (31st). I really like the settings but they are different so not for everyone. 25-man-roster-like lineups, and weekly lineup changes (because I like not having to think about fantasy baseball every single day). Roto scoring 6x6 (adding OPS and holds). Feel free to join if it sound interesting It's league #249908 and password is LP2.
  14. I had never seen a game where the Win Expectancy Percentage was 100% by the 6th inning.
  15. Alumni on WBC rosters: Vince Perkins - Canada Corey Koskie - Canada Chris Barnwell - Canada Matt Stairs - Canada Jonathan Phillips - South Africa Chris Oxspring - Australia Carlos Lee - Panama Henry Blanco - Venezuela Marco Scutaro - Venezuela Dan Serafini - Italy Elmer Dessens - Mexico Francisco Campos - Mexico Nelson Cruz - Dominican Republic Saul Rivera - Puerto Rico Nelson Figueroa - Puerto Rico
  16. Uecker also said that he likes Corey Koskie..... now that he's gone. It was a bit odd but I took it all as a big joke. Apparently Koskie was a jokester while he was here.
  17. Can someone explain the shoulder impingement injury that Gamel and Gwynn have? I'm a bit confused how they can be injured before spring training even starts. Didn't they throw throughout the winter? Did they just start throwing a week before spring training and realized their shoulder was sore?
  18. The Phillies signed Justin Lehr and Ozzie Chavez to minor-league contracts, per mlb.com.
  19. I went to my first game with my grandpa as a 7-year-old in 1981 and got Jim Slaton's autograph. I think I was mostly hooked at that point, but the 1982 playoffs and World Series made me a fan for life.
  20. I am sad to see Baltimore get our catching Woah Solvvd just because that is one of the memories that makes this site so much fun.
  21. More minor league contracts: Jason Childers, Rays Nelson Figueroa, Mets Chad Fox, Cubs Tomo Ohka, Indians
  22. I think the arbitrator picks one or the other offer. Once it goes to a hearing there is no meeting in the middle. I might be wrong but that's my understanding. That's true, but Fielder and the Brewers could still settle after the offers are established and before the hearing.
  23. I think it's good to see Macha keeping coaches around like Sveum and Castro and even considering them for new roles. He isn't just bringing in his old buddies- it seems like most managers just clean house and start over with their own guys, but Macha is being open to the fact that the current coaches may have quality experience too.
  24. Fielder is mentioned in an article on mlb.com as a possible target for the Nationals. Any ideas about what the Brewers might ask for in return?
