  1. After what has transpired in the last hour, we may need it to be Mark A. to keep mass suicides in Wisconsin from happening.
  2. Heyman now saying Scherzer nearing a 7 year deal...and its between the Nats and "At least one mystery team." Fireworks are sure flying this afternoon.
  3. Just for the sake of complete BS'ing and dreaming, let us not forget that Sherman was the guy that randomly said Scherzer / Brewers way back in November..and he's implying again that we may be in on Scherzer or Shields again in January with this move.
  4. Shields is way too "old," isn't the same anymore...i'd rather overpay for Scherzer and eat it. Really having trouble focusing on the Packer game right now, just watch...i'd be just like him to sign Shields/Scherzer during this game too. FU Melvin!
  5. Please God no Shields, I'd rather overpay for Scherzer. Really curious to find out what we're getting from Texas...can't even focus on the Packer game lol.
  6. What would it take to get Kimbrel off the Braves? He's in the 2nd year of a 4/42 deal. Gomez for Kimbrel, Chris Johnson(3 yr 23 mil left), and a minor league piece? Or am I not even in the ball park? CJ has some positional flexibility at 1B and could be Lind's platoon mate, as well as be part time 3B / full time when Ramirez is gone. He's essentially a 6 year younger version of Ramirez but less HR power. We'd also lock down the back of our pen for the next 3 years. (Realistically I know Gomez ain't going anywhere, 0.01% chance but the Braves do have a void at CF. I'm not going to call BJ Upton a CF).
  7. It'd be really nice to have a HEALTHY Johan santana added to our rotation. I'm just not sure how much he has left in the tank at this point....
  8. vs RHP - Stephen Vogt vs LHP - Geovany Soto
  9. Jaso was a pretty important platoon bat for them. Didn't they trade Norris as well? Their entire catcher platoon is gone if they did.
  10. Oakland at it again...guess we can officially cross Zo off our list, not that we had a shot anyway (or were interested).
  11. I think you're right, and I think Jimenez is going to play a big role this year. In addition to being the RH side of the 1B platoon, I don't believe we should count on Ramirez for more than 120 games or so, so I could see Jimenez getting around 400 PAs. Hopefully Melvin found a gem in Jimenez, as we don't have any answers at 3B when Ramirez leaves and it won't be an easy position to fill via free agency... there just aren't that many good third basemen around these days. I'm sure Melvin does think he found a gem in Jimenez...he's a great Brewer prospect.
  12. I'm a little disappointed by this..we really could have used him. Only a 1 year deal makes it even more disappointing, as I thought he was seeking 3 years.
  13. You don't? Maldonado can't hit, is 28 years old so there is likely no hope of him becoming a good hitter, and we need to start finding ways to get Lucroy off full time catching duties if we want him to be a good/great offensive player for us as long as possible. Rosario is 25 years old, fits the other half of our 1st base platoon well, allows 1 more LHP masher in there on the days Lucroy might play 1st, and isn't that terrible of a cost. Not to mention he's only in 1st year arby. I'd eat the defensive liabilities in exchange for more offense & the positional flexibility to get Lucroy off catching duties a few more games at a reasonable cost. Would you rather have Swisher? Some minor leaguer in our system who is marginable? (Clark, Rogers, etc). I'm sure Lucroy could help Rosario out on his defensive deficiencies.
  14. What about Wilin Rosario at 1st base (and backup C)? Seems the Rocks are looking to deal him, he's a LHP masher & would allow us to throw him behind the plate if Lucroy needs rest without having to sacrifice a bat. Limited sample but he has hit well at Miller Park over his career as well (.375/.400/.583/.983 in 25 at bats).
  15. Seems like a decent depth claim. Was part of the Oakland system, and looks like the Cubs claimed him on Dec 19th. Not sure why they're releasing him already. Good article from May 2013 about Peterson below...guy says he's seen him play 1B. He's a lefty though so guess he wouldn't be platooning with Lind. EDIT - Link to article where video (vs. Brewers Nashville club) is included --worth your read. -- Mass Haas
  16. Maybe we watched different games last season but I wouldn't call the entire staff "average." Collectively IMO they performed very well last season, and were not the cause of why we watched the playoffs from home. Roenicke needs to let his starters go deeper into the game, i'm tired of 6IP day in and day out...it seems like we rarely get 7-8IP from a guy. Kintzler on the other hand...he is below average and i'm a little angry we're trying him again. If we beat Will Smith into the ground again like last year we might as well just cut him right now too, he cost us several games.
  17. I enjoy this slow process of teams one-by-one being eliminated from contention as the "mystery team". Padres Mets Orioles Yankees Blue Jays Dodgers Giants ...only 23 potential suitors to go! I think its the Twins. They need a SS and Plouffe is mediocre. They have a history too (Nishioka or whatever his name was) of Asian players.
  18. . Sounds corny, but I'm actually proud of this team. They use O'Bryant and Dudley at Center and still beat Sac on the road...that is amazing. Doesn't sound corny at all. I don't get to see many Bucks games but I look forward to each one. Jason Kidd (and the Lasrys) have breathed life into all of us and this franchise, and I'm finally after 15 years proud to be a Bucks fan. I was pretty young (and a semi Bulls fan) the last time the Bucks were relevant so this is a new experience. I dont care who it is...winning IN Phoenix and Sacramento, and almost beating Portland without Parker is a huge accomplishment for us. Hopefully it continues.
  19. Myers hit .222/.294/.320/.614 last season. No thanks... In his defense, he played the same number of games in 2013 and slashed .293/.354/.478/.832. He had a wrist injury this season that really gave him trouble, with an offseason to rest i'd think his numbers would get better. I would hope we'd get more than him though in the hypothetical joking trade scenario.
  20. The guy has pounded lefties the last couple of years. He can play OF as well. I don't think he's anything great as a defender, but as a platoon guy, he would fit pretty well. He's known to me as "Rainmaker Baker!" because it seemed like anytime I looked when he was in Texas he was mashing a lefty for a HR.
  21. Corey was just another product of the Brewers way even in his prime...very streaky hitter. Please can we stop talking about the guy?
  22. Somehow I doubt after trading for 3 OF, and having like 17 other OF on their roster right now, that trading for yet another OF is high on their radar at the moment. Right now, Gomez is better than every OF on their roster sans Upton. They signed David Ross today too which means they've traded or signed about 12 catchers so far this offseason. I don't think having a surplus at a position is a problem for Preller as long as the player is talented. He's been crazy so far, what's to stop him from getting another OF'er. Even with Middlebrooks their infield is still pretty terrible, trade Ramirez and Gomez? Heck, why not try and get Myers for Gomez? As long as we're playing fantasy trading in San Diego maybe he's owned Myers long enough it's time to trade him too.
  23. Seth Smith would be a very good add for us, left handed bench depth and can play both RF and LF. Little on the expensive side though in future years @ Gerardo Parra money, and he was just assured when he signed his extension he wouldn't be moved. SD could use a little pitching depth though & needs a 3B starter... Lohse/Aramis for (??) This GM will fall for anything that calls his phone line clearly. EDIT - well cancel that I guess...that dolt already made another trade I see...for Middlebrooks. LOL
