  1. Kudos to Australia. They played a magnificent game against Serbia. Guys red carded out in the first two games killed their chances but they never quit.
  2. Haudricourt's blog has Morris signed and headed to the T-Rats. Rivera also signed, destination unknown.
  3. I thought they had signed Caron Butler. I guess he's not a Wizard anymore anyhow.
  4. They are now 62-80 since July 2 of 2009. That's not bad luck, it's a bad team. People conveniently ignore the players performing above expectation which could be attributed to good luck. Brewers are one of only 7 teams above projected OPS in a down hitting year. That's unlikely to continue and Braun and McGehee are individually, at least until recently, also well above expectations. Let's not just look at where their luck has gone bad please.
  5. Not one of Bucci's better outings today if you are at work. 4 runs, 4 hits, 4 walks in 4 innings. Manzanillo blew up in the 6th. Rattlers down 10-3 still in the 6th. Scooter has the only 2 Rattler hits.
  6. I think people are overrating the Brewers' offense. Both McGehee and Braun are among the highest players performing over projected OPS (see Sabernomics blog). They will (and are doing so) return to earth. Fielder might improve from what he is doing but it won't matter if he is traded. We have Gomez and Escobar hovering around .300 OBP not to mention the catcher. When you have that many unproductive at bats, you are asking for trouble. There is no point in trading Prince if Melvin is going to "make the deal I liked". I'd prefer, frankly to take the draft choices than throw the dice on Melvin's judgement. Too many decisions are now being made concentrating on the short term. Frankly, we're one game out of last place in the NL and sinking fast. This season is history if things don't change quickly and it's hard to see how they will. There were people who post on this board who said before the hot stove league that they should essentially write off 2010 and now it appears that was the correct idea. Good call for those who said that.
  7. Zelous Wheeler has 27 Walks and only 21 K's. OBP approaching .400. Is he a utility prospect only? Taylor Green with a 2 out 2 run single, 2-0 Stars after 1/2 inning. Buller getting into the swing of things right away. Threw out 2 baserunners and ran over the catcher to allow two runs to score for the Stars.
  8. Well, Trout just stole first on Marseco. Never mind, double play before he could do any more running.
  9. Total meltdown by the Rattlers. It's a shame because Howell was so good in his last outing. He might have got out of this one with some support, but if you don't throw strikes the fielders fall asleep. Especially on this team.
  10. Lawrie steals a run. Fielder's choice, SB and 2 wild pitches for the lead run. Rain delay after six.
  11. Butler started for the Stars. Good day. 4 innings, 0 runs, 4 hits, 1 walk, 3 K's. Cody in for the 5th. Taylor Green did not come out for the 6th. It has started raining so maybe it's just a precaution.
  12. Bucci goes 7 innings (98 pitches). Too bad the big team can't get that. Braddockian closeout by Howell with 4 K's.
  13. Soup threw 59 pitches in 3.2 innings Friday night. What's your point?
  14. Don't know why they don't bring in Suppan and save Coffey for a game they might have a better chance of winning.
  15. In Macha's defense, it's play for the win on the road and the tie at home isn't it? Bunting Weeks is playing for the tie. The way Weeks has been hitting, he probably should have bunted on his own.
  16. I wouldn't dismiss pitchers just because they come from the Big Ten. Cal Eldred and Lary Sorenson come immediately to mind. They were pretty good for the Brewers. True that Big Ten baseball is not great. There just may need to be more development time than prospects from warmer weather universities.
  17. Ken Rosenthal is all but calling for Macha's scalp on Fox Sports.com today. Also says Melvin needs help evaluating pitching. No kidding Ken.
  18. Stars bat around in the first. Smokies starter knocked out of the box. 2 run double by Wheeler, RBI single by Periard. 5-1.
  19. Melvin is fixated with aging veterans. '71 Rangers, his last Texas club. had a rotation including Rick Helling at an old 30 with a 5.17 ERA, 30 year old Darren Oliver with a 6.02 ERA, 36 year old Kenny Rogers with a 6.19 ERA. Our old friend Dougie Davis was a 25 year old starter on that team. He gave 714 PAs to roided up 36 year old Raffy Palmiero, who had a decent year, 369 to 35 year old Ruben Sierra with a .322 OBA, 334 to 38 year old Randy Velarde, who had a decent year, 271 to 40 year old Andres Galarraga with an OBA of .310 and 211 to 38 year old Ken Caminiti with an OBA of .318. Melvin always seems to revert to this mentality. I don't think the Brewers can win by continual trades for and high priced signings of aging veterans. This is even more important in the post-roids era. I don't mind if he signs an occasional Counsell to fill a void but otherwise please stay away.
  20. I don't see the Nats having any interest in Burrell. Bernardina just hit 2 HR's in a game where he also made a diving catch with the bases loaded to save three runs. They have Willingham for LF who is simply a better player at this point. Their bench tends to use faster, better fielding types. No, I don't see the Nats being interested. And while you guys are ripping the Nats, maybe you should check the standings...
  21. And today is why the NHL playoffs are so great. It's differences of opinion that make horse races. The NHL playoffs stink. 7 vs 8 in the East neither deserving to be even in the playoffs. I guess the hold/hook/interfere bore fest is exiting to some because it's on a large stage. Personally, I prefer the regular season when actual hockey is played. You're welcome to the Stanley Cup. I'll pass.
  22. Parra is all over the place with his pitches. He is a Brewer. When is Peterson going to take some heat for the ridiculous lack of control of this staff? As a new pitching coach you'd think that would be the first order of business. The pitchers need to be held accountable for this.
