  1. I had Adelphia which was then taken over by Comcast. The only difference so far is a higher bill.
  2. Granted, Braun needs improvement. However 3B do tend to be error prone. For reference, in their first full year: Sal Bando 17 errors, Don Money 21, Mike Schmidt 17, Aramis Ramirez 25, Scott Rolen 24, Chipper Jones 25, Jeff Cirillo 18, Brooks Robinson 21, David Wright 24, some of your favorite HOF candidate Ron Santo 31. Perhaps Ryan Zimmerman and Alex Gordon with 15 and 14 errors are the exceptions. I realize Braun is not a full year either. He has time for improvement. I would like to see them bring in a mentor for spring training who is not one of the regular coaches.
  3. I went with Uecker. Nobody has done more to promote the team. Gotta be Bartman for the Cubs.
  4. There is no such thing as a "bad" Brewer fan. Anybody who has stuck with this mess through the years must be a "good" fan. The only bad fans are Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs fans (or the team de jour). And the Brewers can use all of us they can find.
  5. Sports armor isn't illegal under any federal, state or municipal laws I'm familiar with, and that's what at's issue here. He was grandfathered in under baseball's armor rule, therefore he isn't breaking any rules and therefore not cheating when he wears it. It wasn't illegal for Babe Ruth to play in a league without African players. Yet, Barry goes on endlessly how the Babe is unworthy because he didn't play against them. He never mentions that the Bambino was an orphan and Barry was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Each player had some advantages over the other. It's all a matter of opinion, but to me Barry is Jim Rice without the juicing. Check out his Pirate stats. They are good but certainly not great. Compare them to Rice.
  6. I also think his struggles are injury related. Also, only Hall, Gross and Hart have lower GO/AO. He hits a lot of fly balls. Therefore, if power is down, he will struggle to get on base.
  7. National media would be crazy not to cover them as much as possible. The NY, Chicago and LA markets are a small portion of the overall market. They are way overplayed and is one of the reasons many people have tuned out baseball over the years. That said, the Fox games are regional. We (East Coast) get stuck with the Yankees and Red Sox primarily although we have the Cubs this week. Living in the Midwest, you get stuck with the Scrubs. My Red Sox fan friend says he doesn't need NESN because he gets about 60 Red Sox games televised in the DC market already. That's enough to keep your interest. I really think baseball should at least try to force the networks to be a little more democratic. It's always more fun to see teams with new players, rookies, etc. than the same old guys year after year. Doesn't have to be just the Brewers for me.
  8. Will Inman vs another 6' type pitcher: Age 18 W/L record Inman 6-0 Other guy 6-2 ERA Inman 2.00 Other guy 2.63 BB/9 Inman 2.20 Other guy 4.31 K/9 Inman 11.6 Other guy 6.5 WHIP Inman 0.89 Other guy 1.21 Age 19 W/L Inman 10-2 Other guy 13-9 ERA Inman 1.71 Other guy 3.19 BB/9 Inman 1.95 Other guy 2.52 K/9 Inman 10.9 Other guy 6.1 WHIP Inman 0.89 Other guy 1.23 Age 20 W/L Inman 5-8 Other guy 14-4 ERA Inman 2.97 Other guy 2.91 BB/9 Inman 2.97 Other guy 2.11 K/9 Inman 10.7 Other guy 4.69 WHIP Inman 0.89 Other guy 1.13 The other guy did have better numbers in HR/9. This is about the only better stat he had. I understand that short right handers have the odds stacked against them. On the other hand, how many guys put up these kind of numbers? The other guy? Greg Maddux.
  9. So when does one of our pitchers just bean a guy out of frustration? He'd probably throw it down the middle for a HR. Seriously, it's more a question of whether we can finish above .500 now.
  10. Someone put Turnbow out of his misery. Please!
  11. Why does a manager take blame for pitchers not throwing strikes and the bullpen giving up hits. I never really got that. He sits in the dugout and puts guys out there to play. We are not scoring runs and not pitching that great. Tough to win when you don't score many runs. Capuano did his job. He was cooked. Maybe you don't realize how hot it is? I'm 60 miles from DC. It's unbearable out there. I didn't think 2 minutes about attempting to cut the grass today. Cappy didn't walk those guys deliberately, he was gassed. Ned needed to give the team a chance to win and he failed.
  12. 100% on Ned this time. Just off the disabled list, only threw 5 innings last game and you leave him in for 100 pitches on a 90+ degree day with high humidity. Just brainless. He should have been ready to come out after the walk to Jimenez who can't hit past the mound on a fly if he hammers it. Pathetic.
  13. West Virginia (audio, not the game), at least early on, pre-empted because the radio station is covering high school tournament baseball at Appalachian Power Park. Our local team, the Jefferson Cougars, are going for their 9th state title in the final on Saturday.
  14. Another interesting development is that Balfour has been striking out everyone. Could he become our new Chad Fox (aka, fantastic strikeout 7th inning pitcher) Gotta change his name. How about Strikthree?
  15. sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/baseball/mlb/11/28/schmidt.cubs/index.html Here is a link. 3 year $45. I guess the Tribune Co. isn't going broke after all.
  16. 62 pitches for Thompson already.
  17. Don't give teams an extra pick if the player they lost was obtained as a free agent.
  18. journaltimes.com/nucleus/...temid=5777 Jason Thompson, Rottino story from the Racine Journal-Times.
  19. You might want to check your sarcasm meter. I think it's broken. I think this is a legitimate issue. DD has been behind hitters all year and it shows. Yes, today his results were good but he's facing a depleted Giants lineup. I guess if you just label someone you don't have to deal with issue involved which is easier.
  20. This is all Doug Davis's fault. No it's not but if he hadn't thrown 104 pitches through 6 innings he would have still been in the game and they wouldn't have had to use JDLR.
  21. Looks like Sharpie is getting back on track. Way too many pitches at this point. Against this lineup there is very little reason to walk guys and get behind. Eveland is looking better and better. Maybe Davis should go to long man if he can't turn it around.
  22. Joe Randa as a #5 hitter certainly was an unexpected present from the Pirates yesterday. As I recall, Randa had put up huge numbers against Doug Davis which may be part of the reason for the order Tracy put out.
  23. 20 1/3 innings without a run at Miller this year by Suppan. The jinx is on.
  24. Davis absolutely nibbles too much when he gets ahead in the count. It ends up 2-2 or 3-2 every time and then look out.
