  1. Also, there are unique circumstances this year with the Rookie league teams. The 2011 draft was headlined by 2 college pitchers who were promoted above Rookie league immediately. The 2012 draft was mainly about drafting hitting to make up for the deficit of that in the system. The combination of these two drafts has left Rookie league teams without any major arms. This could be something for this year only. I do think Seid has gotten a bit better with his later drafts than the first.
  2. I wonder if some of the failures are due to injury? Anundson, in particular, was going pretty well until he was injured and hasn't been able to reach the same level (yet). I'm not sure it's that easy to project injuries although I guess you could detect delivery flaws which could lead to them. I'm sure other organizations have this same problem.
  3. Good outing for Anundson today. Heckathorn is starting to look pretty good in relief and Arnett with an excellent game also.
  4. Brewers offense is a problem. Brewers BA .251 LgBA (league batting average if playing in the same parks).266 Brewers OBP .321 LgOBP .333, Brewers SLG .425 LgSLG .424 So the only thing the Brewers are even league average is slugging. They are also below average in OPS. I think the Brewers are .500 against lefties empasizing that their hitters are too right-handed. How do you improve this? Having Segura as the SS may be one help. He does look like a decent OBP guy. Gamel would help against right handed pitching. It's not only about the pitching.
  5. Guys like Thornburg and Peralta may well be running into IP limits like Fiers. I agree with bullpen guys and maybe one or two of the others. How about some Khrush? It might be fun to watch him a little.
  6. Brewers offense is not fine. 14th in road runs scored, 11th in road OPS. The fact that they are not horrible overall is an artifact of playing in Miller Park. Hart is now even with Weeks in OBP. This is CH's worst year in that respect in about 4 years. He used to be able to run, hit for average and hit for power. Now it's all about power and that alone. Gamel's OPS in the minors is .873, Hart's was .856. Gamel will be fine if left alone. If, and it's a big if, they can get something worth trading for, they should trade Hart IMO. Ramirez is untradeable at this point without the Brewers contributing to his salary. It's a shame they couldn't have done a deal with the Dodgers for him, but it was always a long shot.
  7. The Nationals TV announcers think the Brewers have quit this year.
  8. They also have Danny Espinosa who can play SS and they brought up a guy from the minors. Not interested if I am the Nationals.
  9. Don't forget Edgardo Rivera, the 18-year-old centerfielder from Puerto Rico, who is off to a fast start in Maryvale.
  10. McCalvy reports Yosmer Leal, 16 year old pitcher from Venezuela, signed for $370K which is a biggish number. Contingent on physical exam and age investigation.
  11. Graf's was last run by (interestingly to Brewer fans) Lawrie Graf, who was a Marquette U. graduate. It was sold a while back to various companies, including Canada Dry for a while. It is now owned by AJ Canfield company of Chicago. They still make Graf's products, mostly the root beer, but in small quantities virtually all of which go to Wisconsin. Check Wikipedia for more info if you're interested.
  12. Bucci has already had an outing for Arizona. Kentrail Davis may be the rare player who does better as he progresses up the ladder. He does have a decent walk rate.
  13. If Ax is looking at Twitter, he's got the wrong job.
  14. Gamel at Huntsville (age 23): .329/.395/.537/.933 Morris: .314/.365/.551/.916 Career Minors: Gamel .304/.376/.498/.873 Morris .280/.321/.484/.805 Hunter is going to have to keep it up for a while to be mentioned with Gamel. That said, he is having a great year.
  15. This is one Helena is lucky to win. Robert Maddux hit 3 homers for the bad guys, but the Manatees kept gnawing away at leads and eventually found themselves on the right end of a few plays. If they find a manatee in Helena, we have a real scoop. Too many link reports?
  16. Walk rates so far (selected players): Halton 1 every 8 Plate Appearances Schafer 17 Gindl 15 Farris 16 Josh Prince 7 Khris Davis 8 Ke. Davis 9 Haydel 14 Morris 15 Gennett 17 Mittelstaedt 8 Shaw 8 Vucinich 10 Walker 13 Hawn 13 Keen 18 Romero 50 Dishon 7 Rogers (WI only) 8 Walla 8 Macias 10 Stang 11 Neda 13 McMahon 17 Ramirez 18 Hopkins 48 Rivera 29 George 169 Prince and Mittelstaedt doing well. Kentrail Davis is at least taking his walks. Ditto for Walla. Hopkins with a breakout year but this is a bit disappointing. Romero and George?
  17. Despite the low expectations, Gamel is still the best left-handed hitter the Brewers have. Until you guys come up with a reasonable alternative, Gamel must be a factor next year. Coming back from knee surgery, he will likely have to remain at first, like it or not. Maybe back to the role for Hart as a part-time 1B if indeed he is back.

  19. Jamie Moyer is now available as well. Could have a real veteran presence.
  20. Mass- McCalvey reporting the Brewers signed Puerto Rican pitcher Joshua Torres, an undrafted free agent teenager. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120623&content_id=33785858&notebook_id=33809292&vkey=notebook_mil&c_id=mil
  21. I believe Suppan is now available too.
  22. I presume McMahon is working on his fielding skills. His bat is not in question at this point.
  23. Racine Journal Times has also gone pay per view. I wonder if they will get a dozen subscribers?
  24. Second the Freedom Trail. It need not confine you to any route since it is self-guiding. There is a Fenway tour but you may need to arrange it ahead of time. Call the Red Sox for information. Fenway is not close to most attractions.
  25. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=g_box&gid=2012_06_12_dbrrok_dbwrok_1 Box score for DSL Brewers. They lost 9-6.
