  1. Time for a new hitting coach. Pretty much everybody has a poor approach at the plate except Prince. Why is Weeks still using that bat waggle? It's awful. Hart is pulling off the ball and has to reach for balls away because of it. That's what needs to be solved.
  2. The Nats have really been blasted in the local papers today. They are desparate to avoid 100 losses. IF the Phillies lose game 1, the fans are very likely to turn on them and really put a lot of pressure on the players.... You never know.
  3. Stricker may have saved the tie with his putt on 18. Seems like the play has been higher quality this year than the usual Ryder Cup. Much less choking so far.
  4. Pinch hitting Gwynn with a man on first and 2 out was even dumber. Even Rottino is a better option. He has about 30 doubles at Nashville. Why not Nelson? If you wait you don't use those guys at all or it doesn't matter. I guess you play for 2 singles. Right, Ned.
  5. Why is Shouse facing Burrell? Nedly is the mgr. Nuff said?
  6. Yup. Setting it up for Gagne vs Howard in the 8th.
  7. I vote for DFA. It costs the Brewers almost nothing at this point. Most of the $10 million is already spent. Dillard and Stetter should also be in the pecking order ahead of Gagne. (and possibly Rottino and Nelson).
  8. Luis Ayala? Not over yet folks.
  9. and from then out he was basicaly hoping that the balls would get hit right at someone. In other words, an everyday Gagne performance. He's toast. Washed up. Done.
  10. Let's make sure there will be no comeback possibilities. Enough with Gagne already. Anybody is better than him. Use Rottino at pitcher, anybody.
  11. Laporta was beaned by the Chinese pitcher after two Chinese catchers were run over on plays at the plate. Chinese team is managed by Jim Lefevbre. Sounds like he was taken to the hospital and has a concussion. Great sportsmanship there.
  12. Total boneheaded play by Michael Bradley to get a yellow card for absolutely no reason. It shows the stupidity of USA Soccer that Balboa would agree that it's wise to save 5 seconds in exchange for a yellow card. All he had to do is kick to a teammate and play keep away. They would have ended up saving far more time. With Adu and Bradley out against Nigeria I give them about a 5% chance of getting a draw which they will need to advance.
  13. Kendall may be the one who is really being overused. 100 games already. He is 34. I know he has caught a lot of games in the past but not too many catchers last long at his age. Ask Posada.
  14. They are paid $25 million/year by Angelos and the Orioles get the revenues from the broadcasts. It looked like a terrible deal for the Nats, but that has apparently worked well because ratings are so poor.
  15. Not the Nationals week. You may have heard, they lost two fans heading to the ballpark on a bus from RFK over the weekend. Today, the Post says they have signed zero of their top 5 picks and are low balling each of these below slot. Last week, the Post announced the Nats were dead last in local TV ratings. They have about 9,000 households per game. By contrast, the Royals, next worst are averaging 28,000 households per game. The O's are next pathetic at 33,000. To give a perspective, Wizards have 20,700, Capitals 17,000+ and even DC United 11,500. You wonder if this is Senators part III.
  16. Interesting stat from today's Washington Post. Bill Hall is 9th in MLB in pitches/plate appearance at 4.22. This surprises me since he always seems to be a free swinger especially when he's going bad like now. Leader Nick Swisher 4.52, Dunn in the NL at 4.50. I'm waiting for the inevitable dropoff from Branyan when people jump back to Hall's bandwagon.
  17. Interesting stat from O's TV. Hart is 2nd in MLB for RISP and 2 outs. Who'd of thunk it? Ichiro number one.
  18. 3 pm is supposed to be a national moment of silence. For the Brewers season?
  19. Nats announcers (Ray Knight) are making a big deal out of the fact that the Nats are missing half of their opening day starters (Johnson, Belliard, LaDuca and Kearns). Brewers should have the edge with Sheets pitching to prevent dropping this series.
  20. Walk a .105 hitter and then have him score on a wild pitch. Vintage Brewers. Considering the Nats have several pitching prospects and the Brewers pretty much zip, looks like the Nats will soon be cruising on by the Brewers. Then we can be dead last again. Should have stayed in the AL and demanded that KC stay in the AL Central. Then at least there would be a fight for the cellar every year.
  21. I'm okay with the days off today. Bully for you. Living in the DC area, this is around the 4th Brewer game I was able to see this year. I think I'll take the day off, thanks.
  22. The fatal flaw in this argument is that p=.5. That is wishful thinking, I'm afraid.
  23. 65 pitches in 3 innings. Vintage Brewers. Can we for once get a guy who throws an occasional strike?
