  1. A little bit off this topic, but the Brewers spent $890,597 per win (using the USAToday numbers). This was good enough for 10th best in MLB and the best among teams with equal or better records. Top 5 were TB, KC, Ariz, Clev and Pittsburgh. Bottom 5: Yanks, Red Sox, Twins, Cubs and Phils. Always good to see the Twinks and Cubs in that category. The Yankees spent $2,089,578 per win. Red Sox, Twins and Cubs all spent more than $1.7 million per win to not make the playoffs.
  2. A lot of the stats Kemp has a lead in are counting stats. Braun has played 11 fewer games due to the time he lost around the All-Star game. That should be factored in.
  3. According to WBAL, it was suicide. Possibly due to guilt feelings over his part in the demise of the Orioles, which would be tragic. It's not worth your life. The Washington Post used to call his tenure as GM with the O's along with Jim Beattie as "Beat again". Makes you think twice about these throw away lines that may seem clever but are hurtful.
  4. Berkman OPS was under .800 in 2010. He has found it again this year but I wouldn't count on him having many more good years. Not interested. I prefer to see what Gamel can do. A platoon of Green/McGehee, Hart/Gindl and Gomez/Schafer could go a long way to improving the offense (some of them light platoons favoring the veteran). Sell high on Morgan. We'll have to wait and see what is available at SS.
  5. I think the Brewers wanted to use Rogers in the pen this year. With the signing of Jungmann and Bradley, it is less necessary to try to make him a starter. They could just give him the Joba Chamberlain treatment. If he lasts the year without injury, you could think about lengthening him out. Arnett may also be a bullpen candidate at this point in my mind. If he goes max effort in short stints, it might work out better for him. Who knows?
  6. Brewers are owed about 30 years worth of cheating to make up for the trampoline field in '82.
  7. No votes for Kjeldgaard, Marzec?
  8. 6 scoreless innings for Hall but a lot of flyouts and only 2 K's.
  9. Taylor Green now 10th in the PCL in OBP. One behind Lawrie, two behind Cole Gillespie. 9th in OPS (Lawrie leads). He is ahead of Mat Gamel in both stats.
  10. Trevor Bauer RHP UCLA #3 overall has signed with the D'Backs. $3.4 million signing bonus. This should help set the bar for the other pitchers.
  11. In the Brewers' defense, I'm pretty sure Pascual would be considered to have a higher ceiling. If he can ever figure out how to throw a strike, he would be more likely to contribute than Krestalude. I'm not holding my breath though.
  12. Pascual! (Said in the voice Jerry Seinfeld uses when Newman comes to the door).
  13. Here's some walk rates you may not check regularly (PA/BB): Nashville Boggs 4.8 Farris 18.9 Gamel 12.8 Gindl 9.0 Green 10.0 Kottaras 7.4 Maysonett 20.0 Wheeler 6.8 Huntsville Halton 23.5 Haydel 10.7 Komatsu 7.8 Maldonado 15.2 Miranda 14.4 Schafer 17.4 Wilson 10.3 Brevard County Ke. Davis 11.9 Kh. Davis 7.8 Dennis 10.7 Gennett 17.8 Kjeldgaard 10.3 Krieger 28.6 Morris 21.5 Prince 21.0 D'vo 16.3 Schafer 8.2 Vucinich 9.8 Zarraga 17.0 Wisconsin Dennis 8.2 Garvey 18.4 Hawn 8.6 Hopkins 17.9 Keen 16.7 Mittelstaedt 5.5 Rivera 27.8 Roberts 14.0 Romero (enough said) Shaw 6.4 Walker 6.4 Boggs is the clear winner so far. Gindl, Komatsu and Khris Davis looking good.
  14. Most of the increase in used car prices is in compacts and midsize cars. He should be okay with the Jeep.
  15. Riggleman was the lowest paid manager in MLB. He had a $100,000 buyout. He was correct that he was put in an untenable position. Either Rizzo or the Lerners just wanted a yes man in there. Manny Acta ended up just fine. Riggleman will too. He may not get another managerial job but he won't be responsible for jerks like Werth and Marquis any more. This should be a lesson to teams like the Brewers not to overpay for players like Werth.
  16. I think Casey may well be injured. If he is having more knee problems, he is unlikely to improve much this year. From my observation, admittedly small, he seems to be even slower than usual lately. A healthy Green might be a better option if that's the case.
  17. Per the Washington Post: the Bautista all-stars (most HRs last two years by position): C Napoli 36 1B Pujols 52 2B Cano, Uggla 40 3B Beltre, Reynolds, A-Rod 39 SS Tulowitzki 38 OF Bautista 74 Bruce 42 Ca. Gonzales 42 DH Ortiz 45 P Gallardo 5
  18. www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals- ... _blog.html Link for the Nats draft ideas. Interesting that teams like the Rays may face money issues because they have so many picks. Could be they will draft for signability some of these picks?
  19. Latest OPS stats: Braun .954 Prince .916 Yuni .601 Gomez .665 JJ Hardy 1.006
  20. Tiger Woods shoots 42 on front 9 at Player's and then quits. Looks like he is really finished.
  21. A ball: NM: .308/.390/.360/.749 CG: .275/.331/.376/.707 Logan Schafer: .308/.370/.440/.809 Folks, there is a better option, assuming he ever has a healthy year again, to either player. Please don't sign either one to a long term deal. There are other candidates who also might be better in our own system. By all accounts, Logan is a fine fielder who doesn't make the blunders these other two do. Most of you haven't seen Morgan at his worst yet. I presume you will though. (I'm not advocating Logan for the Brewers just yet, I know he needs work after all the time he's missed.)
  22. So far 5th in HR and total bases but 10th in runs scored in the NL. 12th in walks and 12th in stolen bases (weren't the Brewers going to run more?). This team is a top heavy mess just like the Ranger teams Melvin had. Probably should look at that more closely than Sveum. Don't forget all the at bats by Edmonds, Cain and Zaun (among others) last year that we won't get this year.
  23. Stars off to an awful start. HB, bunt where nobody covered first, double play ball thrown into right field by Wilson, walk. I know they're supposed to be learning but it seems year after year the Brewers are weak in the fundamentals. Got out of it with only 1 scored.
  24. If there is any chance Farris could start at short next year, he should be playing there just about every day. Same is true with Gamel at first. Gamel seems to be doing well so far in the field. If Farris is seen only as utility, then it's okay to see part time duty at short as he will be in the majors.
  25. My take on this game is that Gallardo threw too many curveballs and consequently, too many pitches. He was worn out by the end of the game. I guess it never occurred to him or Lucroy that the Nats gameplan was to up his pitch count. Strike one, strike two and then the curveball. Especially against this team which has almost no hitting. My pet peeve, if a team wants to give you an out, take it. Fat curveball to Marquis to prevent him from giving them an out--right. Thanks for letting me vent.
