  1. Other than March (3-0) and May (19-8), the Brewers are 43-43.
  2. Moose won’t be on the team next year unless we sign him as a FA. His option is mutual. If Schoop doesn’t turn it around and fast, I’d have a tough time imagining we pay him $8.5M plus whatever he gets in arbitration.
  3. Agree 100% with all of this. Schoop's profile as a hitter made him an odd choice as a trade target from the get-go, basically because the team's line-up is already stacked with several low OBP types. But what's done is done, and if this team is going to make a run for the playoffs, it is in their best interest if Good Schoop shows up. I was excited by the pick-up initially, but I'm not going to lie and say Schoop's first week as a Brewer hasn't cast some doubt in my mind. It's almost like the Brewer middle infield curse has gone in reverse. Typically the guys become stars after leaving Milwaukee. This time, albeit in a very small sample, a good player has come to Milwaukee and significantly regressed. This is our concern, Dude.
  4. Schoop is the exact opposite of what we got from CC.
  5. Two out clutch hit. Other than the walk off from Thames when do we get those?
  6. Sal Biasi https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=biasi-000sal
  7. You know it’s a good acquisition when you are hoping he goes on the DL. Blue.
  8. Brewers are only 1.5 behind the Cubs. 3 games in the loss column which is all that matters. You can make up wins you can’t make up loses.
  9. Heard he dominated the California Penal League Another for the wish we had a like button. I will add the obvious; Juuuuuust a bit outside.
  10. It’s nothing personal it’s just follow the money. Cleveland has been a very successful team since they brought in Francona and still all we see is NY vs Bostom every week.
  11. I think it is more of a case of the team made certain prospects available, and it just so happened that they were mostly guys who would need to be added to the 40-man. I'm sure that was by design. He also made some young "lottery ticket" types available that didn't stand much of a chance of helping the team for several years. I'm not real sure what you are trying to argue about here. The strategy makes a lot of sense. They didn't trade guys just to trade them. They traded them to land major league talent to help this year's team. I'm betting they will make a move or two more like this by the end of August as well. It’s funny because in mid July all we heard about was how incredible our farm system was and now it’s we had to cut loose the rule 5 dead weight to trade and settle for guys we probably didn’t need but at least are major league players. Ortiz in particular was a guy where the usual folks would get quite defensive but now he is just some guy we didn’t really care about keeping? Ok. I do think we will add in August as well. Peralta will be hitting his innings limits, Nelson probably isn’t coming back, and Davies hasn’t had a lot of success in his rehab. At some point we are going to need to have a guy pitch 7 great innings when it counts.
  12. This part is true. I think people thought that because they were in our top ten that they could have returned something like Machado, but the reality is, our farm system cannot compare to that of others. I never thought those guys had much of a chance to make a big impact at the MLB level so I am 100% on board with the trade. Regardless, a combination of Shaw/Moose/Schoop/Arcia is much better than a combination of Shaw/Arcia/Perez/Villar/Saladino/etc. so that is why the trade was made. If anything is evident from Stearns moves over the last couple years, its that he really values depth. Are we really *that* sure Schoop is truly an upgrade over Villar? Let alone cost, control and adding our 5th and 14th ranked prospects? FWIW, if WAR is your thing, Villar is much more valuable of the two. Admittedly both aren’t tearing it up in 2018. Again, FWIW, the Orioles board was upset about the Gausman package and very happy with the Brewer trade. As we discussed in the rumors thread, Dozier was the guy we needed here, and guys like Phillips plus would go for a starter. Moose’s acquisition just seems weird. Maybe Shaw was supposed to be traded and something fell through? I’m sure we will never know.
  13. Moose is a low OBA guy, was ice cold after the first 1/4 of the season, and plays redundant positions. Schoop is a guy I actually like despite his low OBA but why get him and Moose and go through the weird Shaw to 2B theatre? That said we grossly overpaid for him especially considering his year of control is really a $10M+ obligation. The knocking down of the guys we gave up seems selective because most were talked up an hour before they were traded. I guess that’s what classic fans do after a trade but it seems a board of this quality would be above that.
  14. Price of doing business. And if the Brewers make the playoffs and make a run, it is payment well spent. None of those guys was a "must hold". Oh I absolutely suggested we go for the playoffs. Our system isn’t and wasn’t strong enough to worry about giving away guys if we can make the playoffs. It’s not like we have a system like Atlanta. I’m just saying without question we paid a super premium for what we received back. Soria is a guy all playoff teams need down the stretch but let’s be honest, Schoop and Moose arent really impressive. It felt like they were moves just to get rid of rule 5 guys and decent ones at that.
  15. So overpaying was due to rule 5? We gave up our 5th, 10th, 13th, and 14th ranked prospects for 3 guys who are probably 2 month rentals or an overpay for an extra year of Schoop.
  16. I just checked out Will Smith’s stats. Wow.
  17. If he doesn’t get hot, I doubt we keep him for next year at $12-$13M.
  18. Yes. These two moves werent terribly well thought out.
  19. Just for fun, how good is Kratz’s knuckleball? With some instruction could he become a true pitcher for us at some point? It’s not that outside the box even at his age?
  20. They need to admit the multimillion dollar mistake with Albers and cut their losses. They are in the playoff hunt, you can’t have a roster spot wasted like this.
  21. He seems like a Petco only pitcher but I will give DJ the benefit of the doubt seeing what he did with the low rent brigade he has been given.
  22. Villar had 279 plate appearances this year and 436 last year. It’s not like they didn’t give him a chance.
