  1. For what it's worth, Law has Brinson at 70 defense and 80 power
  2. Trading for a 26 year old OF is a smart move. Obviously if they include Brinson it means the Brewers don't believe he will be as good as Yelich. The 40 man isn't a big deal next year because we have plenty on the 40 man now that don't matter.
  3. So you fail over the next 3 years and now you're back where you started, except now Yelich is down to two years of control. Sounds great. This 86 win season was the worst thing that could've happened to this franchise. It's only bad if the FO truly thinks this is an 86 win team and goes all in for 2018. That would be Bucks post fear the deer silliness. By any measures I can find. The team played way over their analytics. If there is a site that evaluates then differently I'd like to see it. The only caveat is if the FO really thinks our prospects aren't as good as we all hope and they want to sell high?
  4. Because our first round pick is better and Diaz just hit 710 ops in A ball and isn't much of a defender. Admittedly it's a sell low on the guy but he has to start hitting before he can be taken very seriously.
  5. Nice try but Vogt and Diplan aren't doing anything to get us Meija or anyone else of any value. I'm not sure anyone other than Brinson or Burnes gets us Meija.
  6. This is the most realistic FA signing in this thread. Though I can't say I'd be shocked for a Lynn or Cobb move if we can't make any other splash trades.
  7. Darvish to the Brewers made no sense on so many levels. I cant image too many people are surprised by high heats post. His camp made the offer public to bring in the real offers. I suspect the Brewers offer was mostly to drive up the price to the Cubs or to show the fans the FO is trying.
  8. To be fair, the Astros just won the World Series in no small part due to a superstar 2B. He we can acquire. I'm guessing that's not on the table.
  9. 2B isn't really a need in the sense that plenty are out there avaiable for low cost and we have several in house solutions plus Dubon. None are world beaters but few teams don't win because they don't have a super star 2B. In other words I certainly wouldn't trade anything meaningful for a 2B that is barely an upgrade over say merely signing Walker. Where we are lacking (if we are in win now mode) is in the TOR and pretty much the entire bullpen after Knebel and Hader. If we think Shaw and Santana had what will turn out to be career outlier years then yes you trade them before they regress but that seems like a lot of rolling of the dice.
  10. If the Brewers want to go all in and want to spend money I'd rather they go out and sign two of the FA starters and keep Santana. There was a time down the stretch where Santana was our only guy being a run producer.
  11. Agreed. Plus he has far more value to us then he likely would to other teams. He won't be viewed as an All Star 3B but rather a nice player who has a career year. And no we won't be getting Torres for him.
  12. Are we all just going to forget his WS performances?
  13. Not enough for Shaw, in my opinion. To me this deal would essentially be Shaw for Torres and Broxton for the rest, and I would think we'd have to be getting at least one more top prospect for Shaw to make it worth moving him. Isn't Torres like the 2nd ranked prospect in baseball?
  14. Other than Ellsury plus prospects, all of these suggested deals show the Brewers are going for it in 2018 which is really interesting. They must think the Cubs are vulnerable.
  15. Publicly announcing that we made him an offer is a not so subtle way of telling the other teams to get in their offers. Otherwise, he would have just accepted our offer.
  16. If Santana is the guy who would we trade for not named Altuve? I know Kippnis is available but you'd never trade Santana for him without prospects from their side.
  17. If they trade one of our real OFers for a 2B then yes, disappointed would be the correct emotion.
  18. The Brewers would essentially be giving the Yankees $68M if the rumors are accurate, and I'm dubious. It better be a mammoth return to do that.
  19. I don't believe for a second that the Brewers would give that long a contract to guy who is 31. Is there draft pick ramifications to signing him?
  20. That Yahoo Article (via translation) talks about the Brewers meeting with Darvish and confirms they offered a contract. It speculates it to be a 5 or 6 year contract. To a 31 year old pitcher????
  21. I'm having a difficult time seeing an Ellsbury move. It would have to be way more than Abreau coming back because we would then have two horrible contracts in the OF when that is the only position where we are well stocked on the farm.
  22. Take the contract get more prospects in return? Taking on his $21 million contract for 3 years would hinder the Brewers’ spending for 3 years. Yankees would have to include a large portion of his contract to make it worth while. Only prospects make it worthwhile. He is 33 and in deep decline now. This is taking him on due to our low payroll and raiding their farm system in return.
