  1. We need Suter to go very deep in this game. The bullpen gave up 22 runs the previous two games. They have to be shell shocked.
  2. My optimism with this past two weeks is I'd like to see the kids play. Enough of using them as fill ins. Let's do with Brinson what we did with Arcia last year. Ditto Woodruff and Hader. That's something I'd enjoy watching.
  3. Baseball players seem to generally have a weird sense of entitlement about them. So many unwritten rules. Can you imagine Harper behind closed doors? I just saw an article in the Huffington Post about baseball having a bad cocaine problem. Take that for what it's worth.
  4. Under no circumstances should the Brewers be trading for rentals.
  5. Going into the season with Knebel, Feliz, Barnes, and Hughes doesn't sound all too bad. Torres had a good year last year. It's not that easy to build a bullpen in one year. Look at who the top RP were in FA. They are either expensive closers or journeymen. Did Stearns miss on Holland, sure, but what did you want? Well, for example Hahn knew enough to invite Swarzak to camp. He got him for free and then picked up our 18th prospect 4 months later for him.
  6. That would be a smart move. Rentals are worthless at this point.
  7. Well then he will be in good company with our bullpen. Hopefully tonight's game will put to bed any stupidly of trading prospects for rentals.
  8. We have traded Smith, Thornburg, and Jeffress. Relievers don't just grow on trees. Exactly. Stearns had a great pen last year. Traded all of them, which 90% of you agreed with. This year was rebuilding, not forming a pen to compete for WS. Again, something most agreed with. Now they stumbled into a possible pennant race and it's "Stearns doesn't know how to build a pen??!?" Ridiculous. DS inherited a great pen and correctly traded them to help with the rebuild. He has not acquired a bullpen which is the point.
  9. Because the bullpen was an afterthought going into this season - it's still largely a collection of random arms thrown together to field some form of a pitching staff at a bargain basement price. The rest of the team has far exceeded expectations, but the bullpen is still that of a team that won't hold up in contention down the stretch. Sometimes you truly do get what you pay for, which unfortunately in this case is nothing... Yup. You're right. This really wasn't a bullpen anyone that was serious about winning would ever put together.
  10. Absolutely horrible. Why does every 8th and 9th have to be such a nightmare?
  11. I'm pretty sure he was just having fun. This has been a much about nothing day so we could all use a drink. Now keep pounding those Nats.
  12. They are actually in first place though, you've used this logic multiple times but it really makes no sense. It would make sense with say 5 games left or something where the team could realistically win out but there are still 63 games to be played by the Cubs. If we both play to the same exact winning percentage the rest of the season we end up in 1st. No team in baseball is taking the Cubs record over the Brewers if given the choice today. They aren't. Losses are all that matters. I'd love to argue this but that's really the final issue that matters when teams have played uneven numbers of games it's losses. It's really just math. They will all play 162 and you can never reduce your losses. Agree to disagree.
  13. They are alone in first place 2/3 of the way through the season. They may not have as much talent as the Cubs, but if they win more games in a defined 162 game period they get to go to the playoffs. By definition, that makes them a "playoff team" regardless of what "the analytics" may say. Also, they are five days away from the deadline, so I doubt they made a trade for him simply to flip him in for a "large prospect package" when they just got him for Cordell. To start the year, I didn't think they would make the playoffs, but right now they are in position to make the playoffs and Swarzak will hopefully make them a little better. As unlikely as that may have seemed a few months ago, can't we just enjoy this run and hope it ends up with a division title? They are not in first place. The loss column is all that matters. You can make up wins but you can never reduce your losses. But to your point, being only one loss from the WS champion Cubs on July 26 is amazing. I absolutely hope they win the division. That's a given. But more moves will have to happen besides Swarzak. Our rotation is now missing Garza and Guerra is pretty much finished. Im not sure when Anderson is coming back but they are still a starter short.
  14. They could have announced this yesterday. So either the Brewers are trolling their fans or they are working on something that takes some time.
  15. That's what I'm thinking too. Just drop two of our our relievers. A trade does make more sense and the lack of a needed roster decision suggests there is some juggling of getting something done.
  16. The Tigers we might be looking at in Kinsler and Verlander and certainly Wilson would absolutely be good players for us in 2017. Verlander is our number 2 or 3 depending on what is going on with Anderson, and Kinsler would be an upgrade over a Villar and what we must assume will be a significant regression for Sogard (609 OPS prior to 2017) And thats great IF it means we make the playoffs and can do some damage once we get get there. However, like a great night out drinking, 2018 will feel like a cruel joke of an hangover with older guys making big money and some of our prospects gone. Now if Fulmer comes along, that I can get behind.
  17. Verlander and Kinsler do nothing for me, but I would trade practically anyone we have in the minors to get Fulmer. This is a mega deal Id strongly look into.
  18. Good grief man, you don't have to be debbie downer every opportunity you get. It's a message board, folks are speculating. Enjoy the ride. Yeah i know and point taken, but acquiring Verlander is about as realistic as picking up Thor. Not the Mets pitcher, the dude with the hammer. Prospects plus $56 Million plus his vested option at $22 Million plus the balance that he is owed this year, or about $9 Million for a 34 year old pitcher with a ton of mileage and a strong desire to only be traded to a WS caliber team. To be traded to a team that has expressed desire to build around its prospects. Sound realistic to you?
  19. Verlander is most like to waive his no trade to a super contender and assuming his vested option is picked up. I cant imagine how that fits into a small market rebuilding teams plans even if he wants to come here.
  20. No way does that get you Wilson. He is one of the top trade chips at the deadline. Sub 1 WHIP and 12+ K/9 is worth way more than mediocre salary relief and guy the Brewers dont want. Further, while Kinsler has little value to us unless you think we are a playoff team, he does have some value to a contending team that desperately needs a 2B for the next two years. The Brewers dont really need a 2B with Dubon and Hiura on the way and Sogard being a decent fill in even with obvious regression.
  21. It's possible to not get just young talent. Stearns literally did it 24 hours ago. Of course it's possible, the question is why?
  22. If a trade is made, I believe the Tigers would be the partner as well. I think Wilson/Kinsler is safe, but I think Verlander or Fulmer would be in there too. Fulmer is a player worthy of a few high prospects. I don't believe we have enough to get Fulmer with prospects only. That would mean we would have to take on a lot of bad contracts, so maybe this is possible but it's a massive commitment for Mark A.
  23. I doubt Swarzak is going to help us much this year unless you think this is a playoff team. They are only a game out in the loss column but the analytics says the Brewers do not have a reasonable playoff caliber team. I would actually see him being a very valuable trade chip on a large prospect package at the deadline.
