  1. If only we had a LH bat who could play both 2B and LF we'd be set! Hopefully one that only makes $2M a year or so. A 900 OPS guy would be just what this offensive starved team could use now. Oh wait.....
  2. Our minor league catchers....good gracious. http://media.giphy.com/media/sY4SjlTUgRUmQ/giphy.gif
  3. 1 Hader 2 Brinson 3 Ortiz 4 Hiura 5 Burnes 6 Woodruff 7 Phillips 8 M Harrison 9 Lutz 10 Dubon 11 Clark 12 Ray 13 Erceg 14 Diaz 15 Kodi 16 KJ Harrison 17 Diplan 18 Ernesto 19 Yamamoto 20 Bickford 21 Lemons 22 Peralta 23 Gatewood 24 Ponce 25 Supak
  4. That wasn't the reason, and you know it. I get you have different opinions about things, and that's fine. But it's this sort of comment that drives people crazy, since you know $2MM isn't the reason they let him go. I think it was the $2M as sad as that sounds in 2017". The guy had been reasonably productive and was heading into his good years age wise. He proved at Cincinnati that he could be a utility guy and be a highly productive player, bordering on super elite. Villar had one good year, and fell back to earth which wasn't exactly hard to predict. Stearns picked the wrong horse to bet on despite having a full year to evaluate them. There was no reason to dump him, especially since we are now looking at trading for Kinlser apparently. As for Garza, $5 million is chump change for a quality number 4 starter. This is a no brainer.
  5. The Cubs emptied their minor league system down to the worst system in the game and they only have a 1 1/2 game lead on the Brewers.
  6. Absurd that we are even thinking of trading for an expensive 35 year old 2B when Stearns wanted to extend Villar in spring and dumped Scooter and his 900 OPS for nothing less than 5 months ago. Just fast track Hiura and use DeJesus Jr/Dubon to stop gap until he is ready.
  7. The Rebuild will be complete when the young guys we acquired become elite major leaguers Santana and Hader are on their way. Brinson is very highly rated. Hiura looks like the real deal. Arcia and Shaw are keepers. Davies and Knebel are young guys we like. Though maybe not in the roles they are in now. Knebel doesn't perform like a closer and Davies is a solid number 4 not a number 2. Clark, Ray, Diaz, Bickford, Dubon, Nottingham do not look like guys who will be much at the MLB level but it's still early. The trade deadline was an interesting barometer. Either DS didn't think the MLB team he put together was worth helping what he believed was a futile effort to catch the Cubs, or the prospects he acquired not named Brinson aren't valuable enough to generate much interest.
  8. 11-16 The offense has lost its mojo and the pitching will come back to earth.
  9. That group is not going to get a guy like Gray especially in heavy bidding.
  10. It's starting to look like our minor league system is really just Hader and Brinson, with Hiura on the way.
  11. It looks like the Yankees also picked up Oaklands international bonus slot too. There wasn't much we could do. This past two weeks took us from contending to barely hanging on. Ultimately, in a big deal like this, our prospects just aren't that interesting except for Brinson and Hader who I wouldn't trade.
  12. Slumps happen. The offense has avoided any prolongued slump all year long. This is just happening at a bad time. Its not an indication of anything other than theyre in a slump. Ehh.....it's more of an indication that this spin. Looks more like a regression to the mean than a simple slump unless people think Sogard was actually Rogers Hornsby and Thames was Barry Bonds. If you come up small in a big series it's not a good sign. Which is a shame because our pitching staff came up huge.
  13. Can't bring up Broxton or Phillips due to sending them down in the last 10 days. I think it is important to note how sporadic and how limitted the ABs will be. I will take my chances with the guy with MLB experience. Kyle Wren likely to be a dumpster fire in the few random ABs he will get before Phillips(my educated guess) gets called up or Keon Broxton. Dumpster fire? That pretty well sums up Nieuwenhuis' entire 2017 season, majors and minors. I just don't get the lack of respect for any player in the system not acquired by the boy genius. Brewers gave away Cooper. Wren has fanned 51 times in 405 minor league PA. Nieuwenhuis has fanned 54 times in less than half that many PA at AAA. Only justifiable reason is the Brewers are close to acquiring a better quality experienced LH hitting CF and need a fill in for a couple days. Then after that guy is acquired they can simply DFA Nieuwnhuis again. Why was Phillips sent down to begin with anyway? He could have split time with Brinson. Have to wonder if Villar's days with Brewers are just about up. Bringing up an extra OF could mean the intent is to platoon Perez and Sogard at 2B. I tend to agree. There's not a lot of value in bringing back Kirk unless it's part of a bigger set of moves between now and Monday at 3 and even at that he isn't a major league caliber player on a team that is chasing the WS champs. This is a team that doesn't score a lot of runs without the HR so Wren brings a little more contact and OBA skills to the table than Kirk
  14. I can't even....this is just gold. Right up there with the recent 'I had drinks with Craig Counsell's wife so I know what I'm talking about' guy. I see you've been a board member for 10+ years, so you're obviously not 12. It's just...most people gain a sense of self-awareness over time and don't actually think that they're more qualified than the 30 men in the world deemed most qualified to run a Major League Baseball team. All I'm saying is..I'm too competitive to sit on my hands in the middle of a pennant race and wait for 3-4 years down the road to see if MAYBE my rebuilding plan works. That's why I am shocked DS is..You'd think GM's are super competitive too. Look, I'm not saying empty the farm necessarily but they need at least another bullpen arm and a starter. If they can get those two pieces..I really think they have a shot. Those two pieces SHOULD be fairly easy to get without giving up the farm I would think. If you can do it for quantity over quality, why wouldn't you?? The jury is still very much out on DS but if the Brewers personnel think Brinson is the next great Brewers player and the same scouts say Gray is a good but not great pitcher then you don't trade him. Agressivenes is irrelevant in this case. You don't give up more than you are getting in return. The Brewers are not a Gray away from matching the Cubs in talent so trading for him using elite prospects makes little sense. If they can get him for Ray and Nottingham great. If they need to add Phillips Im not sure and if they have to add Brinson that's a no unless they sweeten their offer.
  15. Yes. If the source is right, he is just there until Phillips or Broxton can be promoted.
  16. @brewernation is pretty solid but no one knows what this means.
  17. Well they can't promote Phillips so it could just be because of that. Need to replace someone due to injury? Really want that lefty bat? Not sure what to think here. Waaaay too many possibilities. I agree I have no idea what it means. But we do know if the reports are to be believed that the price for Gray is Brinson, Phillips can't be called up to replace him, and to our knowledge no OF is hurt.
  18. I don't know how they can demote Suter, He pitched the biggest game of the year like an ace. I know the analytics folks hate the term clutch because they don't understand it, but that was clutch. I know that watching him pitch says he has no business getting major league hitters out but the results have been fantastic. He reminds me a bit of John Tudor.
  19. Not sure where to put this but Brewer Nation on Twitter says Kirk N is headed to Milwaukee today. Let the speculation begin!
  20. Not sure where to put this but Brewer Nation on Twitter says Kirk N is headed to Milwaukee. Let the speculation begin!
  21. That's absurd. What is this? Is this "National Try and Say Something More Ridiculous than the Previous Person Day"? ? No way those 4 could get Syndergaard. It's not even close. I like our 4 pitchers but they aren't anywhere near this guy factoring in his years of control.
  22. The Brewers have absolutely no need for Granderson. This is why national sportsriters are a joke. No one who has any knowledge of the Brewers would connect him to us.
  23. That was a buy high pick up. I think we all knew he would give up a run in that spot.
  24. Oh, there has been plenty of talk about the Nats brass wanting Harper gone for YEARS. I believe it. He would be intolerable as a teammate.
  25. Well Swarzak did everything he could to ruin the game but this was a HUGE win. Incredibly big performance by Suter and Corey.
