  1. Are you comparing Peralta to Marcum? Marcum was coming off a solid season after missing an entire season while Wily is coming off arguably his worst season in the majors. Marcum 2010: 3.64 ERA, 3.74 FIP, 115 ERA+, 1.147 WHIP, 7.6 K/9 and 3.84 K/BB Peralta 2015: 4.72 ERA, 4.84 FIP, 84 ERA+, 1.537 WHIP, 5.0 K/9 and 1.62 K/BB There is a reason trading for Marcum warranted a prospect of Lawrie's caliber. We would be lucky to get a prospect in the 80-100 range for Peralta at this point. Stearns would be smart to not trade Wily until he has regained his 2014 form where he can fetch the return you feel he is worth.
  2. I think this is inaccurate. Davis, Smith and even Segura could net us a decent return. We just need to find the right fit for each player. He said 'great' return - and I agree with him. Davis and Smith will likely net something decent - but not great. Lucroy is the only Brewer who currently would land a great return (and how great a return is debatable after his injuries and lackluster 2015 season). A great return gets you a top tier prospect and then some - much like the Gomez deal this past year. I'm not sure Segura nets you much. He's got 2.5 years of below average production. But I guess you never know. I hope he starts off 2016 really hot so we can deal him at that time. I believe Davis would net us a better return than Peralta who is coming off a bad year. But to your point the only players on our current roster who would net a top prospect would be Lucroy and Nelson (who I don't believe will be traded). Braun could be another option if Stearns is willing to eat a substantial portion of his remaining contract.
  3. From what I understand it came down to keeping Middleton or Knight and Kidd and the LED decided Middleton was the better fit for this team going forward. Getting MCW in return simply provided them with a young, cheap PG who has the potential to improve. You cannot have max contracts at every position and this deal allows the Bucks the cap space necessary to sign both Giannis and Jabari to max deals when the time comes. As for having the ball when the shot clock is running down, both Jabari and Giannis WILL be who we go to if they develop into the players we all are hoping they can become. Being a all-star (Jabari) or superstar (Giannis' ceiling) means you can put a team on your back when needed. Neither of these players are even close to doing so yet, but both have the potential to do so in time. I would prefer to allow them to fail trying now than giving these opportunities to our #3 or 4 option and winning a few extra games when it really does not move the needle one way on another. Besides, losing a few extra games now just increases their draft spot so they can continue to stockpile young talent for the future.
  4. I think this is inaccurate. Davis, Smith and even Segura could net us a decent return. We just need to find the right fit for each player.
  5. Luis Perdomo is intriguing. Is still working as a starter, has three pitch repertoire and if put into the bullpen his fastball plays up to the mid to upper 90's. We would also be taking from the Cardinals which would be an added bonus.
  6. I do not feel the need to get a top 10 prospect in return for Lucroy. I would simply target multiple top 100 prospects along with one or two high risk/ceiling prospects. My ideal trade partner for Lucroy would be the White Sox. A package of Fulmer, Michaelczewski, Leyer and either Alfaro or Zangari would be a solid haul for two years of Luc. We get a top of the rotation starter, a solid 3B prospect, a high ceiling pitcher who currently has some control issues and either a defensive catcher or power bat (a la Russell Branyan mold).
  7. I'm still hoping the Pirates get desperate at offer Ke'Bryan Hayes for Lind straight up. I know it's an overpay by the Pirates but they will need to if they want to trade within the division.
  8. I agree. Its all about who is available and how Stearns views them as prospects. IF and its a big if, Hultzen can recover and get back on track his stuff is pretty sick. Again it all depends on Streans.
  9. Suter is not even listed in our top 30. Are you thinking of Phillips? Also we still have two more spots to fill with these players so my guess is we will add a couple more players before the midnight deadline.
  10. I was thinking Labourt also as a nice piece. I wonder if we could get Cessa in the Rule V and then Labourt in the trade? Cessa was added to the 40 man roster which makes him ineligible to be taken in the Rule 5 draft. I highly doubt we will be getting two additional players for K-Rod.
  11. I really like this move when you pair it with the Villar trade. We just upgraded our current roster with two versatile left handed bats who provide above average defense for a fringe prospect and an overrated slap hitter.
  12. He is coming back from a shoulder injury but could be placed on the DL to not take up a roster spot. Could be a good buy low candidate instead of taking a player in the Rule 5 draft. Thoughts? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/mariners-designate-danny-hultzen-for-assignment.html
  13. They meshed fine because Knight was our only scoring threat and could simply player hero ball when the shot clock was running down. Going forward Kidd wants to offense run through Giannis, Parker and to a lesser extent Monroe which does not bode well for a shot first PG like Knight. I'm a big fan of Knight's but fell his skills just do not mesh as well with our budding stars as with Middleton's moving forward.
  14. So would you rather have Knight or Middleton for the next 4 seasons? Because Kidd has already stated they were not going to sign both this past off season. Knight's game does not mesh well with Giannis and Parker's. Midds fits Kidd's system better and looks more complimentary to our two young guns.
  15. For those who are already penciling in Arcia as our SS of the future look no further than Texas where Profar looked underwhelming in his first couple seasons and has since struggled with injuries. No one is a sure thing in Baseball and to bank on a single player is just foolish.
  16. Although I also was high on Sneed, its hard to say how pitchers in the lower levels will actually develop since many of them are still adjusting their mechanics, adding new pitches and strength along with learning how to pitch. Sneed was also a college pitcher who was pitching against players who are on average 2 years younger than him. He should out perform younger players at the same level. Villar could develop into a serviceable 3B or simply be a better utility player than our current options moving forward. Either way, its difficult to say who won this trade. Stearns targeted him for a reason so for now I will trust his decision and wait to see how the remainder of the off season pans out before passing judgement.
  17. Here are projections for 2016 via Baseball Reference: Villar - .251/.313/.388 Segura - .267/.304/.370 Not much difference except for the fact Villar is a switch hitter and bigger (5'10", 205 vs. 6'1", 215)
  18. So did Alcides Escobar when he was first promoted. Not saying Villar projects the same but maybe they are similar in their ability to adjust defensively when being promoted.
  19. Looks like he is a good defender with some gap power who could develop even more over time. Not sure if Stearns is looking at SS or 3B with this move but the potential is there and we did not give up much to acquire him so i'm happy. Here is a good scouting report on him: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/7/23/4543826/prospect-of-the-day-jonathan-villar-ss-houston-astros
  20. The problem would be finding enough "relief aces" to fill out your bullpen since the majority of relievers are inconsistent and struggle with control issues. Its hard enough to find quality late innings relievers let alone more to pitch 4-6. At least with my version, you are limited your bullpen to the final few innings.
  21. Would this consist of a 6 man rotation where each pair pitches every third game? If so, then these pitchers would still be getting close to 180-200 IP per season (i.e 54 games x 4 IP). Its an interesting concept and I would be curious to see it implemented for an entire season. We do have enough available starters to try this if Stearns was inclined to do so. Pair #1: Nelson/Lopez Pair #2: Peralta/Davies Pair #3: Jungmann/Garza
  22. Santana should be able to net at least a #2/3 ceiling pitching prospect based on his post-trade production. I have no inclination to trade him for anything less and certainly not for a package headlined by an average at best 3B who lost his job mid-season. This a player who before the trade was a top 100 prospect (#50 in 2014). Thanks but no thanks!
  23. Adding Braun would simply take away some of Lucroy's value unless we eat a substantial amount of his remaining salary. I just do not see either as a good fit. We should not be looking to add all-star caliber players only to waste 2-3 years of team control while we are rebuilding. As for keeping the fans excited to sell tickets. Who cares if the attendance drops to 2 million for the next few years since the teams payroll will be dropping by close to $30MM during the same time frame. Stearns needs to focus on selling high on players who he does not see as part of our core when our next competitive window arrives (i.e. 2018/19) and get the best package of prospects offered.
