  1. Especially if you are a Cy Young candidate, AKA any left handed starter facing the Brewers this year.
  2. This has been an utterly poor year of management from Craig. I understand the bullpen isn't anything special but he has made so many more head scratching moves this year that make no logical sense and they seem to backfire more often than not. I mean it's always a win some/loss some but in years past I think the true managerial decisions/moves he made tended to net out positive by years end. This year has been the complete opposite. In reality, he has really struggled to adapt bullpen management after MLB decided to change the rules to 3 batters/end of inning. Last year he was just blessed with an elite 3 guys in the 7th/8th/9th. This one stings bad.
  3. I have had these same thoughts. Still some season left but if Hader doesn't see some form of improvement down the stretch I definitely see SD non-tendering him, especially with potential luxury tax issues continuing to loom come next year. I would have to imagine the Brewers would try to reunite with him under this scenario. What a major fall it would be. 3 months ago it was beyond unfathomable that Hader could be non-tendered. Now it's gotta be a 50/50 proposition (would be higher if not for another month+of season left)
  4. We aren't strong enough with a proper O/D mix in the minors. Unless we are signing a FA no way we combo Feliciano/someone else. In short, default based on position played.
  5. It's so obvious to me that this offseason only Yelich, Adames, Caratini are safe going into 2023. Every other player is at risk (some more than others) of not being an everyday player for the Brewers. Sure Urias/Tellez are near locks but even them I wouldn't consider definite. This offseason will be interesting on how the offense is addressed. It is absolutely ridiculous that back to back nights your starters get you 6 shutout innings and both leave are saddled with no decisions.
  6. This is a tough lineup against a lefty. Shows how we aren't well rounded enough offensively. On an absolute different note, am I the only one that cringes with this years Adames in the #2 hole. I think we could benefit from shifting him to the 3 hole while moving up a 'higher OBP' guy with power to the 2 hole.
  7. I had the Cards broadcast tonight and the announcers are as expected, the PC Police of baseball. Such Fing pricks. Great win. Tough, hard fought game all around. Great work from the pen. Great performance by Burnes. Hitting is as expected, a ghost town most nights but showed up when needed. Let's get tomorrow.
  8. Not gonna lie, I would love to see the catcher and batter simultaneously bail on a 0-0 fastball right down the middle, nailing Angel right in the chest. A win/win for the entire league.
  9. When Angel is behind the plate, literally freestyling calls I don't think it's advisable to try to work counts. Cutch's 2nd strike was nearly in dirt. Looked like ball 4 was actually a strike. That's Angel for you.
  10. I would much rather take my chances with Strzelecki up until that point.
  11. Gotta use Brosseau somewhere. I know it's a smaller sample size (100-110 Abs) but the guy has the best splits against lefties, best Average/OBP on the entire team, an OPS over .800 yet can't find his way past the Gatorade cooler.
  12. The only issue here is 'how it looks'. Lamet was included in the deal for financial reasons to get the prospects we really wanted. I believe taking on Lamet was likely the difference between Gasser (who Stearns obviously covets) and another prospect he wasn't as keen on. He can't help that later on in the evening the Rangers basically gave us a Cost controlled reliever for another 2 years for a High Walk flamethrower flier (guys like Kelly's failure rates far exceed success rates at the MLB level.). Obviously the plan was to keep Lamet on the roster for a true look but getting Bush changed that later on in the day. I don't find this move puzzling but I do start to wonder if we truly didn't get enough in the package for Hader.
  13. Sure looked like Renfroe slowed down before he got to 1st on that groundball. Not saying he would have beat it but it would have been awfully close had he not slowed down.
  14. I think there is enough there (especially with the change-up) to be a serviceable starter. Being 25 and truly not having developed consistent location is cause for concern. You can get away with that at AAA but it shows at the MLB level. It's way too early to dismiss him but I think in the short sample size (as well as his work come June in AAA after his first MLB start) is enough to temper expectations for the time being. I think he has shown enough that he can't be a middle of BP addition for the stretch run once Houser and Peralta are back. I was hoping he could be that additional arm come September but those hopes are gone. That's as far as I am willing to go.
  15. Win or lose, if you believe this team has any ability to make it deep into the postseason you are an unrealistic optimist. This offense reminds me of something Selig would throw out for a 20 spot. Surprised Robinson Cancel isn't heading to the plate,
  16. Even the ultimate optimist can't dismiss how dysfunctional this offense is. I just hope we don't 'sell the farm' to buy offense this year.
  17. It's all a timing tip, Easily correctable. It's so noticeable. Elongates the delivery on offspeed. Speeds it up on fastballs. When hitters pick up on this now it's all about chasing location vs having to worry about MPH coming in. I suspect this is corrected fairly quickly. Application is much easier than, say, Yelich's major flaw. Yelich used to, in MVP years, have the legkick/slide and a true up/down movement on his bat to time. It's now moved to a "Y" shaped movement. This creates less precision for launch angle/homerun balls. That's not an easy fix at all (still doable years later with tons of repetitive application). That's more the driving force with Yelich's lack of power than any injury he has had. He isn't maintaining the same launch angle as before. Hitting coaches know this. Have likely been through it left and right. Application is tough. In regards to Hader though, it's such an easy fix. I have no worries about him for rest of year. This will be water under the bridge in a few weeks.
  18. Seeing and application are different. No doubt Hook sees this. I think that was part of the mound visits. The good news for Hader is it appears to just be timing on the tip.
  19. Hader is tipping so bad. He is elongating his stretch on offspeed pitches. Shortening on fastballs. Any hitter can pick up on it. This was not present for most of the season. If I can see this on the TV no doubt pro hitters have seen it on film.
  20. I know it's only one hit but with the work he has put into his swing over the past month or so, making adjustments, etc. one hit like that can change the confidence trajectory for him. That could be a huge, huge home run.
  21. While 100% accurate my question would be why allow replay if you aren't going to consider reversing the incorrect close calls? If that isn't even a consideration why even have it? Unless Joe West, CB Bucknor, or Angel Hernandez are gracing the games we can expect consistently accurate calls on 1st through 3rd (balls/strikes is a different animal in and of itself). Just get rid of replay if you aren't going to overrule non-egregious missed calls.
  22. MLB Replay is sad. The goal is obvious, to always protect the "integrity" of Umpires. The same group that allows Angel Hernandez to trot out and negatively impact at least 162 games a year.
  23. I understand where we are at financially (I think we all think we have little money left to spend and already overextending with Grandal) but I am not entirely convinced that the longer that Machado goes unsigned the more he becomes an option for us at 3B/SS. With Harper, based on reports, tending to be the Phillies priority target I am not sure where Machado will fit (especially if the White Sox offer is the best he has received). Is it possible Machado signs a high dollar, one year deal? I am not entirely convinced with his young age that this isn't a possibility. I could see him "settling" for a 1 year, 40 million dollar deal with hopes of a market reset next offseason. I know, I know it would send our payroll to a level that no brewer fan could ever envision. I just believe that if Mark A sees this as the most likely year to win it all he could be ok operating at a substantial loss for one season if his past financial numbers exceeded expectations and the projection of ticket sales/new TV contract revenue can make up for this loss. If he can write off the loss for a future financial benefit he may be game for this.
  24. If we could unload Thames I wouldn't be opposed to drafting Josh Ockimey. Outside of that I don't see anyone worth taking a risk on.
