  1. Agree, the changes we're all saying are right for the players to address the current situation will destroy small markets chances of winning. Along with it you almost have to come up with a cap and revenus sharing system similar to the NBA or NFL.
  2. I singled out the most eggregious But yeah 28 teams are under. 20 are wayyyyyyy the hell under. Why arent fans mad? Because the majority of Americans seem to see themselves as just a couple of steps away from being a filthy rich billionaire like the ones that are hoarding MLB revenues. It's a really incredible boot-licking phenomenon. No, its because fans want to see their teams win and they know a contract like that will hinder their teams chances of winning because they know the reality is that ownership teams aren't just going to willingly lose dozens of millions of dollars per year. If was going to stomp my feet and demand billionaires just give away money just because they can, I'd prefer them to just give it to me straight up, not some other guy who already has tens of millions in the bank. Even if that guy was going to do his best to entertain me, I'd rather have the money. It's even worse once I realize giving that contract probably actually ends up hurting my entertainment value as it doesn't help the team win long term.
  3. Max is 35ish mill. I'm still really skeptical he gets that, the people saying it are the same ones who were saying Jabari was gonna get 100 mil last offseason. Now, I know Khris is getting a legit 4 year big deal from someone, but this isn't the the cap boom of 3 years ago where every team has the space for it. I think if you offer him 4/100 at 12:01 he'd be crazy to say No while waiting to see what happens with the other top FAs in the pecking order above him. Maybe counter back at 4/110 and call it a day, then go party for a month straight.
  4. Again, 2 agents can't agree but 30 owners have apparently. And that's ignoring how player openly talk about needing to hold ground, set market for other etc. Moreover, agents work together under agencies together so as if they're not communicating to each other. They're not all operating independently and I think that's more than 2 agents.
  5. Yup, under the current system this is what they have to do if they wanna be safe/smart. I generally agree the system needs to be changed though so they're not in this predicament. That said, as I'm thinking about remember the trade off is guaranteed money, that is a huge huge perk on the players side that is now just taken for granted. The minute you sign that deal it's all yours, can't cut you, lose it due to injury etc. From the team's perspective, hand out huge guaranteed deals to everyone, tommy john/ACLs etc and you're just paying out tens of millions for nothing. And then throw in old age, regression, players naturally relaxing once set for life.
  6. Yup, players are going to start doing this more and more. Realizing the numbers on this set them up beyond anything they could've hoped when they were 15 years old and getting serious about it. Why risk the injury and FA issues of now when basically getting 50 mil or 80 mil really won't change your life at all. You're set no matter what. If I'm a pitcher I put 40 mil in the bank as soon as possible with how easily Tommy John can happen
  7. Yes, no shooting is the biggest issue of course. however, ever look at Happ and Reuvers standing next to each other? Happ is listed 6'10 and Nate 6'11. He's a solid 3-4 inches shorter though. Happ always struggles with legit NBA sized bigs with athleticism, saw it with Ward swatting him multiple times last night, it's primarily because he's only 6'7.
  8. Also one has to realize how unlikely getting a true superstar max FA guy to choose MKE is. I know it's not like 10 years ago or anything since we have Giannis, but it's still very unlikely. Now, getting a 2nd or 3rd tier star to come here because we pay him 'max' when he's really not that good yes they could do that but then you might as well just sign your own guys who are basically at that same level and you can go over the cap for them. I've said/thought for years the most likely way another true #2 star gets to MKE is by trade not FA. The reason I just said but also because we ruined our cap for those offseasons with Delly, Mirza, Monroe, Snell, Henson, Plumlee. The most likely way we're going to get a guy everyone is dreaming of is to sign our guys to be over the cap/tax and then wait for an issue to come up where one of those true stars is forcing a trade (George, Kyrie, Kawhi as example recently and of course AD). for example, since everyone is obsessed with AD (though I don't think he's a perfect fit) if he's not traded in the offseason once we have our guys locked into contracts we then have them to match up contracts with AD to go along with young guys and draft picks. An under the radar guy to me that we could get after we have Middleton signed is Bradley Beal. Wash never wants to tank and no way Beal is staying there long term.
  9. Crazy as it is to say the best basketball titles location for Kawhi and KD is MKE. Aside from KD just staying in GSW of course.
  10. You'd be surprised the arguments I got into with Lillard with people at the time on RealGM. They viewed Lillard as a chucker scrub and wouldn't trade Jabari straight up for him. It was like me and 3 others on the side of preferring Lillard. One guy was mocked so much he quit the board. Everyone had their homer glasses on. Ironically, they bashed Dame for being a PPGZ empty stats only guy (which he's not) while ignoring that's exactly what they had on their hands with Jabari. Now, yea everyone thinks like you just said. 3 years ago, not so much. I've always viewed Dame is the closest thing to Curry in the league as far as his game goes. Yes I know Curry is better so no need to argue, I said closest thing you can get to him. No, ACLs are often a big deal and handing out 130 mil 25-35 mil per year a guy that has the ticking time bomb of a 2nd ACL hanging over his head when it if it happens again you know he's done. And statistics show it's a huge percentage increase of chance of a 2nd once you have the first. Combine that with all his faults as a player, he's the same positions as Giannis/KM and I was out. We couldn't have that variable hanging around Giannis imo, cash out and move onto a clean slate to build a team around Giannis. Also, tough to be a stretch 4 if you're completely unwilling to rebound or even try on D.
  11. I didn't blame them for drafting him. With the Embiid injury you kind of had to. For me, after the first torn ACL I was in the "cash out on him while you can" camp of trading him for what you could get. Torn ACLs are a big deal and most Bucks fans just put blinders on to it. We already had Giannis and KM at his positions. In his time on the court he wasn't that good and other than the short stretch before the 2nd tear he didn't shoot 3s. For how awful he was on D and rebounding (I only saw him box out one time in all my time watching him) you needed him to be a serious power on offense. Besides the nitpicking his game, to me it was all about eliminating that variable of a 2nd torn ACL and his impending contract situation that would cap us out and it would ruin us if we'd paid it and then he tore his ACL again. They got darn lucky he tore it when he did instead of say now, as they'd have him on a 25 mil contract right now without it. We had Giannis for this 5 year window and we couldn't mess it up and couldn't gamble on a guy like him. We needed a PG and I was all about pushing him when he still had the shine of upside/potential for a PG. I've always had a man crush on Lillard myself.
  12. yup, they should have ran it back. Tried to get some under the radar SPs who could fit well in that park and tried to win for a few years. They couldn't spend a lot due to the Stanton deal and some bad contracts but you had a great offense. Some forward thinking regarding pitching like how MKE has done it and they could have done well.
  13. that seems like a similar package and I'd have done that trade. Not jonesing to trade Peralta or anything but you have to give something. All the crazy ones thrown out here I wouldn't have, but that seems reasonable. Plus you'd have some money available now to have signed a 2B/IF instead of C.
  14. Mirza's cap stuff should have went off in early December, a year from whenever he played his last game basically. That should all be done already and factored into all the cap stuff you read online now.
  15. Yea Pels get 4 2nds, two of which should be top 10ish. Easy as to why. I wonder if they chose these 4 picks instead of one 1st from someone else? Mirotic trade is absolutely perfect move for the Bucks. Best feasible move they could have made today. He's a drastic improvement to Ersan and wilson on O. Worse on D but he's big enough to hold his own and rebound at least. They basically now how have a wide variety of bigs that can fit almost any matchups needed. Someone just brought up Horford, well you still have Giannis/Lopez too. You have tons of guys to fit different matchups. They could be lacking one more thick guy to bang with Embiid if Lopez were to get hurt, but in today's NBA I don't think you want to waste two roster spots on those guys. Plus Ersan will stick his nose into anything, he doesn't care. For this ridiculous back and forth on Brog vs LAL guys. Hi and T you're simply missing some basic logic and forgetting this is an opinion based thing. In spite of saying Brogdon isn't as good as we think and/or expendable doesn't mean that he thinks he's worse than the LAL guys. It's your opinion those guys are better than CHL thinks they are, that's it, move on. Yet you're trying to act like you're catching him in some contradictory statement when it's just not the case. For example, I think Stanley Johnson sucks but that doesn't automatically mean that I think he's worse than Thon. They're unrelated. I think player X sucks, but I can also think player Y sucks even more. Genius move by horst not finalizing the Johnson trade yesterday so he could be moved in a bigger trade. Like I mentioned yesterday, he's more tradable due to being expiring.
  16. So is the idea behind going to 5 trying to encourage less fouling/FTs? Wouldn't it lead to even less D than now? Because that seems to be what people are complaining about in general, that the rules favor the offense too much as it is. And the O players are still going to keep the drawing fouls moves they're doing now. If that is the goal I think you'd just want to go back to allowing more hand checking and/or somehow clean up the offensive players forcing/initiating contact for fouls somehow. Some kind of phrasing like "if it's not a normal offensive motion by the offensive player creating the contact then it's not a foul on the D". similar to how they've tried to clean up the pump fake and jump into the defender. Gives the refs some wiggle room to ignore the offsenvie player slamming himself into the defender.
  17. Yea I'd agree that the Harden type milking of fouls needs to be cleaned up somehow. A reduction in FTs overall would be good. However, I don't agree with the shooting points. To me that's the most skillfull part of the game, if you're better at that it's a good thing and should be of value. IMO over a guy who is just tall or can run and jump well but not actually play the game. Some kind of rule tweak that would allow post ups again could be good too. But what they've done instead is create open lanes to encourage driving, which they think is more entertaining than backing a guy down in the post, and I agree. I don't know what rule could be changed to help the post other than going back to the old Illegal D rules where you couldn't sag and double the post. But essentially these rules have made people increase the skill of their games rather than just relying on size like Shaq and past bigs. A guy like Hakeem was skilled enough that he could've expanded. Other big oafs not so much and I'm fine with that, skill game not a power game.
  18. I think this view of the high scoring is a bit recency bias and remember the 90s and early 00s slugfests which makes folks think around 200 total ppg is a lot. The pretty much best era of NBA was the mid 80s. From 79 until 89 when the Pistons starting muddying it up, games averaged 218-220ish, and keep in mind that was with very little 3 pt shooting. Last year it was 213 and this year is 221. this isn't even factoring in the 60s type era that was drastically even more when Wilt was putting up those bananas stats. I've often tried to remind people of this when people try to claim 'back in the day' they used to play D and modern NBA is soft with no D. Yes, compared to what the Pistons/Bulls era ushered in until the mid 00s that's true. But I watched a ton of 80s games and you'd be shocked how little D and physicality there was back then if you actually watch the games and not just use 'back in my day' type talk. Being allowed to cheap shot and punch each other like was allowed back then did not mean it was actual good D and overly physical. IMO this is the way the game is supposed to be played, up tempo skill based rather than pounding on each other. If you want to go back and watch the like 05 type Spurs team win finals game 81-72 more power to ya. For foul outs, I'm way opposed to that. I've said for years NBA should go to 7 and CBB to 6. I despise when a star player gets a ticky tack foul and has to sit for a long time in the 1st half. It's not like you're still not getting penalized since the team gets FTs. I thought there would be a movement towards this after the MIA/OKC Finals when KD kept getting two fouls early and then have to sit but it never happened. A compromise I've thought of would be to all the starters an extra foul, or maybe designate 2-3 players allowed it. Something of that nature.
  19. Just think if they'd have won that Purdue OT game they'd be in first.
  20. He can be trade by himself tomorrow, but if anyone wanted him the Bucks could have just made it a 3-team trade today. It is just an expiring. Which is fine. yup, look around for other expirings that fit better. Say, Wayne Ellington from MIA. contracts work. Then get to work trying to move Snell's contract since you'd have his replacement on hand for this season.
  21. It clears Thon's salary for next year without costing us a 2nd rd pick to do it, it's that simple and really doesn't need to be thought about much beyond that. Also, he could easily be re-traded by tomorrow, since he's expiring he's more usable in a trade than Thon was.
  22. Yea, I realize it's completely unrealistic and all. But if all of a sudden the market is making his contract not ridiculous in a weird way there could be value in him. Like say he took a 7/200ish type deal with some backloading maybe with some opt outs or something. Still, I know even MKE probably can't do that but I saw SF is in on him now and it's probably for that reason. His price probably isn't at the absurd amount they thought at the beginning of the offseason.
  23. Yup, about what I expected. Nothing back for him. Couldn't believe people thought Thon had any value. Clears out Thon's salary for the offseason though.
  24. Well said Rollie. I think that crossed my mind during one of my longer posts but I got going on something else and forgot. There was also the logic that collusion doesn't happen among players/agents because it's illegal. But that it's for sure happening among owner even though it's also illegal for them.
  25. I think the Giannis/Davis PnR would fail pretty hard much like the LBJ/Love one did, and Love could shoot way better than either of these. Their guys will just switch and/or sag off them and go under the screen so much and dare them to shoot. Their games really don't fit together that well since they're so similar. Two top 5 guys on one team though they'd still do well. If Mid is a great 3rd option on a contending team I don't see why the contending team he's on just wouldn't keep him. Sure if you're getting AD back I get it but again NO just won't value him because he can walk in 3 months.
