The logic on that from Shaq should be that by spending his time hanging around the perimeter it would take away from what makes him great, attacking and finishing at the rim. Yes, of course if could do everything that would be great but for such a poor shooter it seams unlikely. So, keep perfecting what you're doing down there. Add more finishes for when the dunk is cut off, runners, floaters, hooks, banks, short jumper for if the clock is winding down, whatever. but most importantly it keeps the emphasis on attacking the rim rather than dribbling around the perimeter, which is what every team wants him to do. For playoff Thon, that's just a small sample fluke. Guy plays hard and gives all effort, I respect that and root for him. But I'm fairly confident he's terrible and won't be in the league 3 years from now. Put him on KD for more than a couple mins and he'll get ate up, he'll fall for every pump fake, foul a ton. he has no hand eye coordination, dexterity/coordination, and can't catch the ball.

I agree with that, Ariza would've been perfect. That's just the way it is vs GSW though, you have to go small lineup or you have no chance. Lopez will get run off the floor, he'll play mins of course but less and you have to pick your spots. If I'm in the NBA Finals I agree I wouldn't want to be relying on Brown, Wilson, Snell at crunch time in those lineups. So currently we're at Hill the most likely one to be out there and while he's fine overall. He's still not quite good enough vs GSW. Ariza being longer would be better. Maybe this crazy Wilson improvement will keep going and he'll be the guy though, what he could bring theoretically could fit vs GSW and he could guard KD instead of Giannis. I guess maybe we'll see what Wes Mathews has left. His shooting seems to be there but IDK about the athleticism after the injury to hang in that situation either. I'll also put a guess out that Deandre goes to GSW after the buyout. Takes the garbage mins from Looney and others.

True, but this criticism isn't really wrong per se. They don't have great closing speed on the perimeter, and it could be an issue against the Warriors. I think a better way to phrase this criticism would be "the Bucks don't do a great job closing out on open 3-point shooters and this might be the biggest reason they won't be the 12th team in NBA history with an average scoring differential of +10 or more or win a finals match-up against the Warriors, who incidentally own 3 of the 11 previous +10 seasons." ETA: DJ Wilson will be surpass Brook and Ersan for crunch time minutes by the end of the year and this won't be as much of an issue. Vs the Warriors your closing and main lineup will have Giannis at the 5 and basically nowhere to play Brook/Ersan slow types. You're either going to have Wilson if he keeps progressing or Brown/Snell/Hill out there to have more speed and athleticism.

THAT is your take-away from this game? Wow. Bucks defense was outstanding for most of the game. Yea this is the NBA with all the rule changes favoring the offense it's impossible to take everything away. They have the best defensive rating in the league and pretty much the only time they lose is when the other team has a stupid hot night from 3 that's an anomaly. So can a team do that 4/7 games vs them in the playoffs (besides GSW)?

lol good line. But the point was to say that resumes should be looked at in full, not just ignored for some and not for others and for some reason this is completely whitewashed for him. Which seems so out of place in the current ultra negative nitpicky world of ESPN talking heads and twitter. Generally speaking I'm on the opposite side of this stuff, like when the criticism basically every loss LBJ has for hours on end on ESPN, same for Rodgers now, you know what I mean. It's constant bashing to get views/clicks. Yet he gets a pass on it. 25 years ago it would've made sense, same way MJ gets a pass on all his early career stuff, retiring, etc. Now, I'm just saying I'm surprised it literally never gets brought up that this 'unhittable', 'lights out', 'give the ball to him game over' etc guy had blown games to basically cost two championships. One as directly as possible for a P pretty much. Still the best closer ever and crazy good but no need to sugarcoat or embellish, that's it.

Miller Park name change coming after the 2020 season
tmwiese55 replied to KeithStone53151's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I do not. Molson didn't buy MillerCoors for the Milwaukee manufacturing facility. They bought it for the brand. As soon as they determine that the Milwaukee plant is not meeting profit expectations, they'll shut it down. That's corporate America. Comparing Molson to the Brewers themselves is apples and oranges. The Brewers are a franchise of MLB, which makes Attanasio a franchisee. While he does own the team, he is locked in to MLB rules that dictate that he cannot move the team, change the team name, etc etc. Perhaps I am wrong, and Molson does plan to continue their partnership with Milwaukee since taking sole ownership of the brand in 2016. This isn't really a good look if that is the plan, though. Well Milwaukee better get their act together in general to keep them then or it'll be a big hit for the city/state in general. IDK, semantics I guess but I take having that many millions invested in cities to be an investment. Maybe I'm taking it to literally. Every location a major corp has set up a major shop is an investment to me. Basically I'm just saying they're currently pumping millions and millions into our local economy each year and folks are saying they're not invested in the community because they're not willing to flush 2 mil down the drain for no reason seems a bit off -
Good points. I see the biggest difference being how vastly more important one player is, which I said too but this is a different way to look at it. And true on the overpay in MLB, like I said players can go wherever they want in MLB but in NBA its crazy/frustrating they're going where they want and choosing less money to do it. The league/system has been built to prevent it all they can and players keep choosing against the bigger contract. Also, yes while basically each league controls their guys for 7 years it is different that in the NBA they hit FA at 27ish whereas MLB is 30ish. Still, overall it's the same to me. Small market teams can't hold their guys in both. NBA rules just force players to do it this way and I agree it's bad PR/Image or whatever you want to call it for the league to have this drama hanging over every star. And it's even amplified more now because max length deals are 4-5 years in the new CBA instead of previously unlimited and then to 7. So basically FA is just around the corner for everyone
-
I don't see the logic that it's only in the NBA. They only have to do it in this kind of shady way in the NBA because of the rules and cap in the NBA makes them do it this way. The best players in MLB just leave in FA and go wherever they want. NBA rules prevent that so I don't see how it's different. Pretty much the same in NFL due to contracts not being guaranteed teams can sign whoever they want and players can go where they want. Moreover, no individual player in another spot (besides QBs) have the individual impact on winning and their teams success (and team profits) as NBA stars so in a way it makes sense why they have power.

Miller Park name change coming after the 2020 season
tmwiese55 replied to KeithStone53151's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Yeah, I agree. The article makes it sound like this was not the Brewers' choice. Hard to blame MillerCoors, though. They are no longer a Wisconsin company. Why would they continue to throw money at a community they are no longer invested in? I know headquarters isn't here, but do they still not have a huge portion of production in MKE? Just saying I've seen this talk a few times and I don't think it's quite right (assuming I'm not wrong and somehow they have moved manufacturing from here). They simply realize that naming rights generates no extra revenue. I'm surprised the megabrands haven't figured this out for the Super Bowl yet either. Basically, literally everyone knows of Pepsi, Coke, Bud Light, Miller lite and they're gonna buy what they like. The only logic I can see is they don't want to ignore it and let a competitor in because big moves like this can make a new brand. Think Under Armour during that NFL draft like 10 years ago. Yes production is still in Milwaukee. But there are no decision-makers that are tied to the community, hence no investment. You don't consider maintaining a huge production facility and employing thousands of people an investment in a community? If you want to phrase it as the complete heads of the company no longer have personal ties that's different. That said, I'd be confident if you looked there is a lot of higher up folks originally tied to MKE before the buy out. And I guess if you want to get technical like this then the Brewers aren't invested in the community since their ownership is in LA. Bucks ownership is in NY, etc. Or think of any huge corporation with a headquarters somewhere but also huge facilities or branches in other cities. IDK, Delta, US Bank, Google, etc. I'd consider them heavily invested into each of those cities, literally. I think BMO (old Bradley Center name rights) stands for Bank of Montreal and is headquartered in Chicago. -

Huh, who would've thought. -
Lou Williams is the guy you're looking for the Bucks. NBA Costanza chucker IDK that's a good question, Jabari probably isn't too far off but trying to think of a guard type to match George's size. JJ Barrea is too good. I guess I'd go with Dion Waiters. Maybe Reggie Jackson or Austin Rivers.

On the other hand, as fans we sit here and lament how annoying it is that we don't have the financial resources of other teams so we can't really stomp our feet when management makes a move to increase those resources even if it's just a few million. -
Pollock signs with Dodgers; 4-years, $55M+
tmwiese55 replied to KeithStone53151's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Yep. And if he played for an East Coastish team, he'd get the recognition he deserves. I think the late start of West Coast games just prevents a lot of people from seeing him play and recognizing that he could be the greatest player of all time. Yup, I've phrased it that if he played for Bos/NYY he'd be constantly talked as potentially the best ever in the same way that debate/discussion is constant regarding Lebron. Now, he's just kind of an afterthought. -

The list is actually Trout, an almost 50% drop, The guy is just absurd, unreal what he's doing -
Agree. This year I've barely watched college, really have only watched UW and some Marquette here and there. Take MSU, I know they're killing it but frankly I don't know if I can name a player because I think most of their good guys the last few years are gone. IDK maybe Ward is still there. Granted UW these days is like the worst representation, but it just makes wonder how people actually say they prefer college to NBA. It blows my mind. That ILL game was just awful to watch. The MN/UW game a few weeks ago was worse. It led to me turning down free tickets to UW/Purdue which actually ended up being a fairly up tempo high scoring entertaining game, right in my face. But I've turned down several games this year and really haven't regretted it other than the once. Plush, yea we're in agreemnet on the charges. That happened in the ILL game, someone tried that on Happ. He fell anticipating a bump that didn't happen. led right to an easy hoop.

Flopping/exaggerating these contacts especially on the wings when the D jumps in front of the dribbler who puts their arm to defend themselves then the defender falls is overdone by everyone, including Davison. If refs stopped rewarding this crap it would go away and the D would take the slight bump, hold ground, continue playing with no stop in action. They reward it over and over though so can't blame for Davison types to keep doing it, heck by current standards the vast majority of the stuff he does should be called charges. I just disagree with the current standards.

Miller Park name change coming after the 2020 season
tmwiese55 replied to KeithStone53151's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Miller isn't headquartered in Milwaukee anymore. I know. That's why the quotes, I didn't even mean it that way regarding actual localness. Meant more in the it's already there, it works perfect, simplicity, convenience, no backlash etc. Better phrasing would've been a 'friends and family' type discount I suppose. I just meant it in a way that the Brewers might've been willing to take slightly less for them. Obviously just guessing but say it was 15 for 25-27 instead of 30 mil instead for Milwaukee maybe it would've been good enough. Maybe not though. Even if you did want to talk local, they still obviously have a huge presence in MKE even if headquarters is gone now. That's all a wash anyway because AmFam is based in WI -

tmwiese55 replied to KeithStone53151's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Ha, I guess I nailed that a few pages ago guessing it's stagnated. Really if you want someone to blame here it's probably Miller. Essentially they could've just extended their current deal and they said No. One has to think that as long as they were reasonably close they'd have gotten a 'hometown' discount so to speak in order avoid this backlash and because it's a perfect name. So chances are they severely lowballed or straight up said they weren't interested. -

Harper in a weird way might now be being underrated. I know that's crazy on the surface since he hasn't quite lived up to the hype and overrating that came with it. Kind of like since he didn't live up to hype he's now being ripped on which is weirdly making him seem worse than he is. The low BA thing is there but he always has a great OBP and obviously that's very important. Is he worth some crazy 40 mil per for 500 mil deal, no of course not. But high OBP, tons of HRs, good speed, etc is all there. I don't see why he'd be pegged as someone to regress sharply on D at age 26. He's in great shape and has a good build. From what I understand he's only so so at CF but fine or good at the corners. I don't see why that would change anytime soon. Really surprising LA didn't find a way to get this done as presumably his price is falling off the crazy initial ask -
The big guy for Illinois' primary move was to just slam into the defender. For a team known for flopping as much as UW is it's shocking they only took one charge off that guy. To me the worst one was him slamming into Happ who stood their with his hands up because he was already in foul trouble. AFter like two slams he just backpedaled and let him go, guy stumbles/travels and they call a foul on Happ.
-
Umm yea one was game 7 and his team had a 2-1 lead going to the 9th and he gave up 2 runs to blow it. That would be the most clear cut blowing of a championship that is basically possible for a pitcher who of course relies on defenders to help him. Or really any outside of a Buckner type ground ball to step on a base. Vs the Red Sox, game 4 he had a 1 run lead facing the bottom of the Sox order and gave up the tying run. Then in game 5 he came in with runners on but with a lead and allowed the run to score. Sure in this case they still would have had to go to the WS and win but obviously their team was better and the Sox swept the Cards(I think). So yea his team had two more titles basically won (one for sure), put the ball in his hands and he lost it. Think of it this way, Jordan is lauded for 6-0 in the Finals right. Well, what if instead he went 6-2 and in those two he had the lead at the end and threw a bad pass that led to layups for the other team to win the championships. Of course he'd still be amazing for the 6 he did win but he'd also get ripped for blowing the others and it would be mentioned in his legacy. Like how it is for LBJ blowing the series vs Dallas up 2-1 with a big lead late in game 4 to go up 3-1. Actually, Rivera situation is even worse because he had nothing to do with getting those leads whereas Jordan obviously would've been the key reason his teams were in position to win. Maybe Robert Horry would be a better comp, tons of titles with him hitting clutch late shots to win/ice games but he of course wasn't the key reason they were in those positions. Well, if in two others he straight up blew the game and cost the better players the lead they built i think he'd get criticized for it. Or at least be mentioned in the discussion. And yes I acknowledge he's the best closer ever and overall was amazing in the postseason. Just pointing out how this doesn't get mentioned, at all. I'm also fine with putting him in the Hall, even as a no closers type guy like me can accept him on account of so many postseason moments and how much he was involved in. He's obviously just a huge part of baseball history. Just have to put a blinder onto how it's kind of fabricated to put him in those positions.
-
Another factor in Brewer game times being down would be well that we obviously gave up very few runs and they also didn't have all that great of an offense. Essentially lower scoring games are simply usually faster. So I guess that would work overall in general as a counter to the extra pitching changes, basically if it leads to lower scoring games it might trade off the extra time spent on changes. However you then run into the overall issue in baseball of wanting more runs/action.
-
Just generally speaking though I think it's basically logical to assume more relievers would lead to longer game times. Maybe not all the time of course but on average it makes sense. But yes hopefully teams and MKE continue to do it the way the last few posts mention to reduce it being like LaRusa era STL games.
