  1. There was trade discussions between the Bucks and Thunder to send Russell Westbrook to Milwaukee for Middleton and Jabari. It seemed that the rumors were legit and the Bucks were seriously considering it, but wanted Westbrook to commit to Milwaukee beyond just the one year left on his deal back in 2016. Westbrook wouldn’t commit beyond the one season and the Bucks moved on. I think back to this discussed trade frequently and think of what the Bucks could of been and would be if Westbrook came to Milwaukee. That rings a bell too. Besides the poor shooting issue of him and Giannis together with neither being shooters, man would they be a crazy combo attacking the other team. That could be the trade, like I said I don't remember for sure. But one detail I remember is that it was supposedly a done deal and all that was left was ownership sign off. So could be two different ones we're talking about, idk. And I remember Howard's name but of course this is all just rumor mill stuff so who knows
  2. One thing I vaguely remember details on is that supposedly ownership nixed a big trade near the deadline a few years ago. This was at the time Kidd was presumably at his most powerful so my best guess is that it was Jabari going out, since reports afterwards show he and Kidd basically hated each other. So in a weird way Kidd might've done one move that was hugely beneficial since he wasn't a Jabari support. Problem of course was that almost every other move Kidd did was brutal, and supposedly that trade was for Dwight Howard
  3. Key is that it creates more possessions though if you're trailing and need to catch up, it gives you more of a chance since 28 seconds don't get drained off
  4. Does it though? Sure in the short run it puts more money in the Brewer coffers, but this is being done after the most successful Brewer season in almost 35 years. But as they go through the inevitable series of rebuilds, and going to games is more of just a summertime tradition to pass a few pleasant hours on a nice summer day, doesn't the sound of "hey, let's go to Miller Park and see a game, sound better than, hey let's go to American Family Field or whatever? At that point the team struggling and having sold it's naming rights for a few extra bucks becomes sort of like when the politicians promised money from the lottery would keep taxes down. If you can't see and feel the benefits as a fan, they don't really exist. All you remember is ownership got more money and the iconic fitting name Miller Park is history. I also don't like the change but am keeping it in perspective as really not a big deal. Yes, frankly if AmFam was willing to pay X amount more per year than Miller then it simply is more money for team operations whatever it might be, just no way to deny it. As I said, I don't like it and of course "lets go to MP" sounds better. But won't people just say "hey, lets go to the brewers game". Personally I think I almost always say it that way now, but I don't know for sure because really it doesn't matter and I never thought of it. It's all the same thing really. Basically 5 years after the change it'll just blend into the background. Which is also why I think it's dumb for businesses to waste this kind of money, and apparently Miller thought the same way.
  5. Right I didn't deny that he is. But no one mentions he blew two championships. I know its just hyperbole and all that to exaggerate things like 'unhittable' and phrases like that, etc. But seriously the guy blew two championships. And like I said initially, its inevitable with that many attempts/inning like he had for something to happen. It just never gets mentioned, at all. All in all I'd say it's just more of a commentary on how overrated closers are in general. Saw something on twitter yesterday mathematically breaking down how basically no closer should make the Hall. Again, I'm not trying to be a hater on him. I know he did his role better than anyone else has done it. But basically if you replace him with any other top notch reliever they probably win the same amount of titles. Hoffman for the whole time or cycling through guys as they became FAs as long as you replaced with another good guy it likely makes no difference (especially since even Rivera blew 2).
  6. Well they started it last night and he made the first 2 and they stopped. They should keep doing it though, it's a numbers game. But last night UW took him out a lot to prevent it and kept the ball out of his hands. As we learned in the Mich game there is a rule in CBB that intentionally fouling away from the ball is ruled as an intentional foul, so you can't just go grab him when he's standing off ball.
  7. IDK, for all of the Riviera was so dominant in the postseason talk one has to remember he blew game 7 vs the Dbacks and he blew I think game 4 or 5 vs the Red Sox the year Bos came back from 3-0. He basically blew two championships for them. I know with being there every year something is bound to happen, but I just feel like this is never talked about. Also, I've given up fewer postseason runs than people have walked on the moon. Haha. Heck, more seriously tons of MLB relief pitchers have.
  8. I've been 'complaining' lately that the games this year are basically boring due to them winning so easily. Obviously I'm joking and happy they're winning so easily, just commenting on the lack of drama. Basically most games though you don't even need to pay attention at the end. Such a change from past years when even if they got a 22 pt lead they'd often find a way to make it close at the end. Ran through the Wins. In 34 wins only 9 have been single digits and only 3 by 3 points or less(one possession). Average margin of win is in the 15-16 point area. Crazy how easily they're winning.
  9. Point 1) Yea I could've phrased better, I didn't just mean the things I noted and posters in that thread. I think you're correct and we're on the same page. I mean just everything overall whatever it is, so that if now his deal is in the 150 mil area instead of 300 mil like was though pre-FA (or at least he dreamed of) then it makes signing way more realistic for many. Basically, 10/300 most teams just go absolutely not no way we can do it. get down to 6/160 well OK we can talk.
  10. It would be awesome to watch Trout and Harper, but I don't see it happening. If that dang Pujols contract wasn't weighing them down for another 3 year, then perhaps. I think they will stick with Upton, Trout, and Calhoun as their OF'ers. Agree. And with Ohtani you have DH covered too. I did see an article trying to narrow down the mystery team on Machado and it made a strong case for the Angels. Could be forgetting something, but essentially move Cozart from 3b to 2b and play Manny at 3rd. I don't think they really have a 2B now. Don't rip me if I'm wrong, going off memory. Then you have Pujols money coming off soon to re-up Trout with. They're still massively weak on pitching but I could see it.
  11. In my opinion, if you are going to sign a player to that kind of contract, he should be a solid ambassador for the game and for your team. Machado isn't even a solid ambassador for himself. Yeah, he's probably going to put up good numbers wherever he goes. He's a top 5 offensive player in the game. But his shenanigans in the playoffs last year were not isolated incidents. He's a douche. Have you really dug deep into his numbers? You'd probably be surprised even just looking at his 2017 which is obviously very recent. The bold is probably a big overstatement if talking pure offense (not offense for someone who can play SS). Overall though I think the logic would be that handing out a ridiculous deal fro someone with this attitude concerns could be a problem for the mentioned ambassador stuff but also that he could be the type to take his 200 mil and then his effort curtails. Combine that if you dig into his hitting he's not thaaaaaat crazy good as the reputation is implying. Whereas Harper to me I don't think that effort thing is a concern at all, he's got that crazy competitive vibe to him. That said, if all these points are cutting his cost drastically so he's not in that ridiculous world initially discussed then it becomes more palatable. Like that rumored White Sox deal isn't crazy.
  12. Of course I have no idea what offers Harper is seeing. But let's assume they're not in that ridiculous mega space he'd assumed. At this point I think his best move is to just go back to WAS on that similar deal he was offered by them before this all started. Try and get yourself an opt out after 2-3 years. Good PR, team is legit good.
  13. Of course I see the logic that 19 mil is just too much in principle. And I can see the logic that, 'hey it's just a backup G spot for 15-20 mins. You can probably get by just fine with a vet min guy or giving DDV a crack.' But, Bledsoe has chronic bad knees, Brog had a bad foot problem that worried other teams. If you were forced to start the vet min guy or DDV due to injury you'd be in for some real pain and it could really sidetrack things. Being MKE I fully expect the owners to not pay this though and see what happens, 17 mil is a lot especially if it then costs some tax on top of it. But the better goal might be to dump Snell somehow so then you're only tacking on like 6 mil beyond Snell. Basically, Hill becomes much more affordable if you don't have Snell's contract on the books. And I'm not a Snell hater, think he's been basically fine this year.
  14. While the idea of Hill at 18 mil seems ridiculous on the surface, everything CHL is laying out here makes perfect sense, as long as the owners are willing to spend the money. And why buy a team if you're not going to go for the title? Cheapness like this is what cost OKC a dynasty. CHL is also right about the repeater thing, our first year over isn't going to cost nearly that. Also, if one of Klay or KD leaves GSW this year (I don't think either will but) all of a sudden this thing is completely wide open. Even still, GSW is so weak after the stars they're not as unbeatable as previously thought. If you want to see the repeater tax effects though look into what GSW could be paying 2-3 years from now if they resign all 4 guys. Another thing to add, besides the backup PG need mentioned you'd also have Hill and his expiring large contract after you exercise the option. You never know what trade might present itself where you need that contract to matchup, that could be how you get your true #2 star. Also, in order to justify or help ease the cost of this contract finding a way to move Snell's deal would really help. Sterling Brown can easily fill in Snell's minutes, not so much a PGs minutes.
  15. Probably true that it's gone up. However, it also wouldn't surprise me if it stagnated or even went down either as corporations realize that things like this don't really increase revenues. But yes general inflation one would think it still went up
  16. I respect that they're trying to win and all, good for them and their fans. I didn't dig much into the LAD move to comment. But this one I'm skeptical on, I guess they're very confident in fixing him but you're paying him as if it's a foregone conclusion. So this seems like an overpay to a team that was basically not gonna play him due to poor performance, then you also give the guy 10+ miil per year. If these moves work though, look out for our division. It's gonna be brutal. Heck, for the whole NL you basically only have one truly bad team in MIA. Maybe SD but they seem on the upswing with their prospects.
  17. This is the main point being missed by the "let Middleton walk, he's not worth 25 mil" crowd right now. Sure, you'd prefer not to be paying him mid 20s but if you let him go you have no route to replace, plus don't have his (or someone else's) contract to trade in the future to remain over the cap. It's like it's going right over everyone's head.
  18. I've almost never seen someone driving without their lights at night. I only recall one time and it was on 4th of July this year, I fully expected the person was boozed up. And I recall doing once myself when driving my parents car that didn't have automatic lights, every car I've ever had has had it. Also, keep in mind some looking at the phone could be looking at the maps/directions. I agree it's an overall problem though.
  19. Take Mussina out of the AL East his whole career and put him in the NL and his numbers probably look way different too.
  20. AmFam Field or American Family Park/Field is fine. Just keep the word insurance out of it and I'm fine. What about some double cash grabs, American Family Field presented by Miller.
  21. I looked up the original deal. Essentially 2 mil per year for 20 years. Now, of course 2 mil is not nothing but it's also not much for a corporation like this. Especially when they'll probably blow just tons more on a few Super Bowl ads this week that no one cares about. I'd guess they weren't willing to pay that much again though since it's not 'new' anymore. Just guessing of course.
  22. I actually am just switching off American Family, I shopped around and they were the most expensive of all quotes I received...and frankly they weren't even close. I'm generally turned off by insurance companies, this just feels like another insurance company that has so much stinkin money that they don't even know what to do with it...so we'll buy some additional naming rights. Agree. Just showing how much money they're overcharging their customers. I also thought of the beer sales at the stadium. I wonder if Miller didn't like how much they've brought in other brands the last few years with them trying to appeal the craft beer world. Note that I'm no expert on this, maybe they're only selling 'craft' beers that Miller has purchased or something, IDK. Just popped in my head as an idea. Or, maybe Miller said all we care about is being able to maintain our sales rights, not the actual stadium name
  23. Really surprised Miller let this go. It just works so well, team named the Brewers sponsored by a beer company. Money talks though I guess. Frankly I've thought for years as if their sales actually increase at all by stadium naming rights for already mega brands like Miller, Pepsi, etc.
  24. If it was 2011 Greinke then sure. Or a true ace level pitcher (IDK say Kluber as a somewhat available guy) now I could see them 'overspending' if they think that's the last piece needed. But for current Greinke it just doesn't make sense.
  25. I'm really not sure how I can see this making sense for us. You never know, but sure seems BS to me
