  1. First, it's out of shape relative for an NBA player. of course playing as much ball as he does he's generally in shape, we're talking relative to other NBA players. I'd grant that I think Mid could be in better shape. I chalked a lot of this slacking/floating type stuff the last years up to our idiot coach playing him 38 mins a game. This year, they're smartly managing minutes and he's still floating or being lackadaisical too often. That said, it's almost impossible for us to say for sure if it's a conditioning thing or just attitude/effort or even just diminishing athleticism(for an already unathletic guy). As FV said, it COULD be true but us idiots here just can't KNOW for sure. So, as a generally unathletic guy that might be slowing a bit you'd hope he'd put in the extra effort to get in even better shape than he is to compensate or just to make himself the best player he can be. Essentially CHL is just saying he coouuuld be better (and was before), it's really no different than saying Giannis would be better if he improved his FTs to 80% or if Bled trimmed one bonehead turnover per game. And that if it is due to lack of training/conditioning then it could be a bad sign once he puts his last 100 mil contract in the bank. Still, you have to just trust the judgment of management/Bud on this as people like us have no way of knowing.
  2. I had Kimbrel in Fantasy last year. While I grant his all time great career, the last half of last year was really really shaky. Almost every game was an adventure, it was like the KRod days here. So I get why teams might be balking at a big multi year commitment if the peripheral numbers don't look good on him and if velo was down. Think of it this way, his current team who basically has unlimited money and where he's won them a couple titles is seemingly not interested.
  3. Yea they basically just stood around on offense the last 5 minutes putting up end of clock deep shots until they got down and then went back to some Giannis/Bled PnR attacks but it was too late and PHX didn't miss another shot basically. Just looked tired all the way around to me. Crap happens in a long NBA season and long road trip. Terrible loss but it happens in the NBA. The way this season has gone, it'll be a motivator and they'll blow out Indy on Thursday. Although Indy does match up well with MKE. Remember Giannis is nursing a knee injury too, probably holding him back a bit.
  4. Have to go Bucks. If they bring this team back they'll be the East favorites for the next several years, barring injuries of course and some drastic moves by other East teams. And NBA is the least likely to have upsets.
  5. Yea probably splitting hairs a bit. I just mean they're trying to win, clearly. They also added McCutchen, Segura, Realmuto. Still seem a bit weak at SP so could be a fit, that's all.
  6. Turns out he's from Las Vegas, I wonder if he would spend a lot of time there over the winter
  7. Well Twins having Mauer drop off was big for them. I could see how they make sense as well. Also, how has Cleveland not signed Adam Jones yet? Their OF is basically trash, seems like a perfect fit.
  8. Seems like Philly would be a great fit for him. They could use another pitcher and obviously they're going for it. That low HR rate should be appealing for that park. Spotrac has their payroll at 137 and we know they've gone way above that before.
  9. That's actually how my brain immediately started thinking about it too, I guess because of the MM comp. So I've kind of been almost viewing it as a deferred money type of situation on those last 3 years but they put years with it instead to help with tax bills in the future. Just surprised he kept it this simple, maybe he really hate the BS/drama and just wants to play and not go through this crap again, good for him.
  10. Well yea of course if injured it's different but no one is planning on that. Barring major injury he has to show up every year like Pujols has to do for like 3 more years. Sorry to have started this 10 vs 13 debate, I was merely commenting that it was very surprising no opt outs since it's become so common and the other two big contracts just got them and that i'd have gambled that 30 extra mil for the opt outs if that was an option. And of course, the option out at least in the first 5 years since no way he'd want to hit FA at 35ish.
  11. That depends on whether he thinks he'll be able to sign a 3-year / $30M contract when he's 36 in ten years. He's guaranteeing himself $30M more dollars with this deal, regardless of health or performance. 10/300 is way better than 13/330. That is 30per vs 25.5 per hes getting. Simply investing 4.5mil per year the next 10years he'll have earned quite an amount that he wouldnt need 30mil in those 3 years to equal what he took. Plus, 3 less years of 'work' to get it. he has to show up those last 3 years to get that money.
  12. Yup, the NL is gonna be brutal this year. I don't what happened with WAS last year, but it's not like they shouldn't be a contender still with their pitching and still solid lineup.
  13. With how young these guys are I don't think these are bad deals at all. As long as they do roughly what they've been doing through their prime years the next 6-7 years then you're fine. If injuries happen well nothing you can do about it.
  14. How could he not be getting at least as good of offers as MM? Who got 10/300 with an opt out. IDK at these dollar amounts, gambling that 30 for the chance to lock in another contract at age 30ish seems like a no brainer. Arenado just got a 3 year opt out. Shoot, basically every player in recent years who got an opt out took the opt out and came out way ahead. Only one I can think of who didn't is David Price. Of course, the variables are that we don't know for sure what's offered, how much he valued playing for certain teams/locations, winning, etc. And of course can't blame a guy for 'bird in the hand'
  15. Any chance it could be a luxury tax type thing they're doing by adding those extra years? We'll give you the 330 you're asking but let's do it over 13 instead of 10 to keep the AAV down to help us with the cap/tax.
  16. Well I was assuming some opt outs in those deals that have all been thrown out there. But if all he cared about was locking up as much as possible right now, then yea. So essentially trading that 30 mil for flexibility to potentially get more. So I was saying sacrificed total dollars for higher AAV and opt outs. this is beyond the overall discussion I guess, but one could argue getting more in hand early allows you to invest it earlier too and can make a lot of that back right there.
  17. We'll see what final numbers/details are. But my gut is 13/330 with no opt outs seems a bit odd. Why wouldn't he take more annual with some opts outs, or just take 10/305 if he needed to be MM. I mean, if the WAS 10/300 offer was there from the beginning (and still is) I'd have done that over this one. Guess it's best to give it a few more hours and see what comes out. Agree with Plush's take. It's kind of like those last 3 years are similar to deferred payments in a way, keeps the AAV down and he just gets it later.
  18. Well, he is still playing in Colorado so none of that matters for concerns. It'd be different if he was given this contract to play say in San Diego. While playing at Coors he's worth this easily and proven so. I suppose that's true. But the point would be that the dropoff to whoever replaced him wouldn't be as stark as a normal dropoff becasue his replacement will also get inflated stats. Still, I get it for Col, he's the face of the team, can't let him go. In spite of the Tulo contract blwing up in their face they kind of had to do it. And if he does well and opts out at age 31ish or whatever it is then you can more easily let him go and justify it to the fans as opposed to now in his prime.
  19. I'm sure this will turn out fine since it's the Cardinals and their wizardry with pitching, but seems like a lot to give to a guy going into his 30s who's only had one good year. If I'm him, yea I put this in the bank all day after putzing around Japan for a while. Still, if you're home do you turn it down if it's 4/40 instead? You're one arm injury away form never making serious money. Overall, probably fair for all sides, he gets market price and security. They get a good P locked in for not a ridiculous amount. Sure they could've played hardball to try to get him to take less but sometimes that's not worth the negativity.
  20. I think his opt out would line up with the new CBA too so can re-assess the FA market situation with the new rules. Could be wrong though
  21. Still think Rodon would be a great under the radar guy and has years of control. If/when he has a fully healthy season he'll be untouchable or cost too much to acquire. Hard throwing lefty with years of control, get him away from an idiot manager running him out for 110+ pitches and he could be exactly what we're looking for.
  22. +1. Not only that, they have elite performers at both positions. It's not like they aren't signing him because they have Jordy Mercer holding down SS. While true, they could put Turner at 2B and have Taylor go to super utility again and wait for injuries to happen. Or play Taylor in CF and not sign Pollack. Which is also where it comes back to the whole money/contract issue we've discussed so much here. Sign Pollock at around 1/6 or 1/7 the financial commitment or be locked into a massive 10 year deal for MM or Harper? Career numbers: Pollack: 281/338/805 MM: 282/335/822
  23. With this creating such a rift this far ahead of the next deal I'm still confident they'll find a way to get the next deal done in time to avoid a strike. Both sides know they can't have 1994 happen again and they have plenty of time to start hammering through the issues we all see here. Thus far it seems the players have the more unreasonable viewpoints, mostly because those contracts got so out of hand that they started to take them for granted.
  24. I just couldn’t get myself to put Rickie in there. When I think of him, I always think back to him striking out swinging at sliders down and away in the dirt. Seems like he was good for at least one of those a game. Had pretty good power, but wow was he frustrating to watch. His defense left something to be desired as well. Agree, it's more of a comment on how weak 2B is for them, haha.
  25. Really Weeks could have a case at 2B and i've only seen him mentioned once on my quick glance through. Although I like the creative work to put Molitor at 2B as well since 3B is deeper.
