  1. Sorry a child got abducted and is ruining your game watching experience. That story is gonna be really bad when it comes out. I think the parents were murdered and the girl missing. Gonna be awful, do whatever they gotta do
  2. True, but the issue is that putting a really good reliever in there for an extra inning doesn't necessarily make it any safer. They can do it pretty effectively, but I don't think that's how they're wired. I'm willing to bet their stats suffer a lot in the 2nd inning of work, unless they're an established long reliever. I think the number of pitches comes into play. Knebel's at 16. If he's below 20, he's available for tomorrow, I'd think. Just sent taht to a buddy. 19 pitches, he can go tomorrow if needed.
  3. huh, now Smoltz is saying they should do what MKE does. he's been ripping it all day. All their analysts right before the game started bashed MKE for it.
  4. They usually pull Aguilar and move Shaw to 1B and Hernan to 2B when they bring in one of their relief studs with a lead. Although I could be wrong about that now that I think about it. Was the pitcher's spot due in the next inning when Chacin faced Pederson? They did do that switch though now taht's why I was confused. I guess you're saying if they'd done it earlier. I don't wanna go back and look at where they were in the MKE lineup for the Pederson AB
  5. Honest question, no snark. What do you mean by not doing the usual double switch? Maybe I'm dumb and not following what you mean by that
  6. It was a double switch. So yea trying to get two from Knebel. Moose made up for it there as much as he could anyway
  7. IDK about this, hope it works. get through these next righties and then onto Hader. My guess is the 3 games in a row is what's making them deviate a bit here
  8. Exactly. Unless you're truly elite like your Scherzers etc you're better off doing what we do. Another thing to note that I thought of after someone said to have Hader be the finisher. If you use Hader earlier and make them take out the lefties it makes the RH relievers jobs later easier. If Hader is last then they'll sub otu all the LH hitters for righties to face Hader. They're gonna do taht anyway, but in the order I say it helps our RH relievers.
  9. 6 runs in game one vs one of the best pitchers ever was only two games ago. Buehler is really good. Would've loved to scratch out 3 vs him but the guy his hitting 98+ with huge breaking ball.
  10. I also think they're missing that he was also way away from the base. You can't do that anymore, combine that with the reaching with his hand and I think it's an easy call.
  11. Queue up White Men Can't Jump line. This is outdoor ball, not your country club ish. You gotta adjust for the wind.
  12. Locally and in general that is honestly what it is. It is the ability to pump up the "rivalries" and get people into it. Making up a bunch of BS trophies for most of them. On a more nationwide scale, yah, it is their effective ability to market those "big" games as actually meaning something. Even though I would say over half of them only mean something if the wildest of scenarios works it's way the rest of the season. I mean honestly even if Wisconsin won out I bet they still miss quite easily. Michigan can win out and probably still be out. I mean sure they are still "in it" if you honestly think they won't lose another game and all the teams around them implode. you're not wrong in anything there. Yes, UW can't make the playoffs now. But they will play in a playoff level game against OSU or UM in the B1G title game. To the bolded though, that's just like the actual playoffs in other sports. Sure, the Bucks/Trailblazers/Heat/Pelicans were in it but were they really? Sure the 14 seed in the NCAA tourney are in, but really? Buffalo and Tennessee made the playoffs in the NFL, really? You see what I'm getting at, it's not fair to just look at the final 4 of any playoff and say the games leading up to were meaningless because only 4 can win. Basically, I'm just saying these games in the regular season are the equivalent of early round playoffs in other sports. As long as you're in position that winning out wins the title, it's just like all those playoff things I listed. That applies to Michigan right now. If they beat PSU and OSU then us again in the title game, they're for sure in the playoffs and should have a legit shot to win (have to be damn good to win all those games) so every game they play is huge for them and their fans but also nationally. Same would apply to an LSU type this year and several more if you look into it a bit. So you have this type of thing going for 12-13 weeks straight creating entertainment and drama, as opposed to other sports where you can ignore for most of the regular season. Clemson gets into a tussle with Syracuse, or like OSU did this week vs MN and it's huge drama. If that happens in any other sports regular season it doesn't matter, that team is in the playoffs anyway. As you can tell I like CFB, it's my #1 sport so of course I'm biased, but when this discussion comes up I just try to say to people just realize the playoffs happen all regular season in CFB. Note before someone points it out, to an extent baseball is an exception to this discussion because it's the sport with the most randomness in a game by game basis making any team have a chance come playoffs.
  13. While I get into it and care if we win/lose. I've never really let sports affect me in the rest of my life. I do remember commenting to my friends on Friday that I was more nervous for that game than anything I ever played in, biggest game I made it to was the Final Four of WI state football. But tons of big game basketball growing up and into HS. IDK, I never got stressed at all when playing. But once the game started it was just a fun experience, sure we won so that helped and the last inning or two got tense but still it was just a good time. I didn't go Saturday but just hanging out watching wasn't overly stressful even though it was a tight game throughout. Then boom the HR happened. I do recall jumping out of my seat thinking the Grandy deep shot was gone though, got pretty fired up for that. Long story short, in spite of being a sports nerd I don't have a problem keeping it in perspective as just entertainment. Two hardest hits for me were blowing the Duke National Title game and the MSU Hail Mary in the Russell Wilson year. Still, basically stomp your feet for that night and the move on with life. If the Brewers lost a game 7 in some painful fashion I'm sure I'd take it hard for that night and then be done with it the next day.
  14. It's the pageantry and tradition, haha. Mostly joking, but it is a factor as these teams tie themselves to the community/state so much. Beyond that though, it's like I just mentioned. They can market 2-4 huge playoff ramification level games almost every week, which no other sport can do. As opposed to other sports which have regular seasons of basically killing time. Which obviously a huge chunk of teams are doing in CFB too, but at the top level they have a few huge games every week to market. combine that with local rivalries, conference/division titles, tradition/pride, social/partying around it and I don't think it's surprising at all.
  15. And even if your team is out, if you're a fan of the sport in general then there is basically one or two playoff type games every week of the season involving a big matchup of two teams playing for their lives. Us vs Mich was one this week. Oregon/WAS was another. LSU/UGA another. Then add in that anytime one of the top contenders is playing someone competent (even if that team is out of playoff contention) that it becomes a huge game with huge ramifications. Say, when PSU plays Michigan in a few weeks as an example. The playoffs happen all year in CFB.
  16. Well you're disagreeing with their plan then, which is fine. That's what the board is about, discussion. I'm just saying that's been their plan all year and I don't see them deviating. This specific case they already let game situation and Miley being in a groove go longer than intended so there is some flex and they did try to get that extra inning there and it almost got them there. But having a lefty avoid facing two righties who are the 345 of the order for the 3rd time with a runner on is exactly the situation their analytics is trying to avoid. Long story short, if Turner ding dongs Miley there there is a larger chunk of the board going 'why did we leave him in there, we've been yanking all year in that situation why change now in the playoffs.' And reminder, Burnes did get that out. It's baseball, the Dodgers are very good. You're not going to throw shutouts every game. The P strategy still only gave up 4 runs, which isn't bad at all.
  17. Good ideas there, he could be used with GG in a game if the put in mostly RH hitters. Woodruff got that role last time but maybe he or Burnes will need to be saved later so they use Peralta for one or two innings. Maybe the put in the lefties then but it burns their bench.
  18. Very small sample but right handers Dozier/Machado/Puig and Taylor are 0/6 with 4 strikeouts and 4 walks against him. So looking at that the walks are a real risk but really shouldn't have him on the roster if they don't trust him. He has been dominant against right handed hitters all year. Have to find a stretch with 3-4 RH in a row though and that's tough vs the Dodgers. The right situation could arise though and hopefully he comes through. Pulling Chacin/Miley for the 3rd time through lineup is exactly sticking to the plan.
