  1. Chacin with the awful game last time out so I think he'll do well tonight and not give up more than 2 over 5-6 innings. You'd think we could score 5 vs a nobody pitcher but we'll see. Easy 6-3 win is my call. Would be nice if CHC could drop one to KC today. Feel like Shaw and Moose have been barreling up some balls well of late, so hopefully another descent night from the offense
  2. FYI in April Cain had a 1/19 5 game stretch. Yelich had a 4/22 which included a 1/15. There is no denying Schoop has been bad but for informed baseball posters it's hard to believe the overreactions to a few games. I guess first impressions go a long way. For example everyone loves Thames because of how he started last year, imagine if his June/July his how he started instead and his April came later, well actually he'd have been DFAd before it could have happened actually according to this thinking.
  3. Yea call me surprised with the lack of Arcia playing time but I'm fine with it and Perez has been hitting lately so why not. How about an easy 6-2 win. No end of game sweating.
  4. I think folks here making too many assumptions on the Sunday lineup thing because it fits a narrative. I don't think it's nearly as in play as it's being made out. We have a revolving door lineup ever day, not just Sundays. And the lineups are more contingent on R/L than anything else. In past year's it seems like way more of a thing than this year.
  5. MLB network did a good 5-10 min thing on the Brewers about 30 minutes ago. Broke down our rotation and had a talk on our pitchers holding up. I have it on mute at work so don't know what was said but it was a whole segment just to the Brewers. You see this all day on MLB network for different teams. They cover the whole league about as evenly/well as possible, and show highlight summaries of all games. ESPN only covers 4-5 teams though. The complaint in this thread seemed to be on that no one is picking the Brewers or giving them serious consideration as a threat to the Cubs though, not that they cover the big market teams for ratings more.
  6. Right out of the break when they had to give a starters schedule the team put out a 6 man schedule. Then an injury happened and it went away. I'm fairly sure he's not making that up. Who knows how long it would've lasted or if it would've just been one time, who knows.
  7. Agreed, I was just saying this to someone regarding UW football this year. I think the SI preview coming out is going to have UW picked to make the playoff and UW on the cover, although I think they do regional covers if I remember correctly. I'd rather stay off the radar and hype train as much as possible.
  8. Also, in regards to all the analysts on MLB picking the Cubs. In a way I actually appreciate the network allowing them to give their opinions. I remember years ago when I watched ESPN/Baseball Tonight before MLB network existed, you could tell the producers made the guys all pick different teams even if it made no sense seemingly just so they could argue and the other guys could then rip on them for picking the team. Guys picking the Pirates who were 7 games back and stuff like that. Hey, you gotta embrace the debate!! It pretty much embodied what has ruined ESPN
  9. Seriously, if you had to put your life or a huge chunk of money, who here wouldn't pick the Cubs? This exact scenario played out just last year and the Cubs won by a few games. Of course I think we can win and we probably have a higher chance than folks give us credit, but they're totally right to pick them as the favorites.
  10. When we had the few game lead on the Cubs CBS had our division percent around 45% most days with the Cubs slightly ahead. They even had our playoff chances at like 97% which I thought was absurd that early in the year. We also had the most All-Stars this year. ETA: Also, the Cubs just won the WS, clearly have more talent on paper, and have hammered us head to head this year. they should be the favorite
  11. That is a fair point of discussion by danzig as opposed to harping on 5 games. I'd say the age, extra year, and SS ability. But as you said the extra year is somewhat negated by the money involved. The cost of acquisition difference between Schoop and Dozier/Kinsler types seems quite stark. Maybe it just came down to as simply Baltimore saying if we don't get something legit we'll just wait until offseason or next year and hope he continues his hot streak to increase his value. It could be that simple, they didn't neeed to trade him right now where as those guys did have to go now.
  12. Where do you put Fiers? He's not pitching any better than anyone in the team's rotation. Plus Oakland claimed Fiers, so he never got to the Brewers. Who's gonna start for Freddy when he get's shut down here? He'll get skipped sometimes with all the off days and you'll have Woodruff if needed. Davies also is possible at some point
  13. I think Kodi could become more than some here are calling him, but who knows for sure and he's a bit blocked in our pitcher list behind guys we weren't going to trade. You had to give up someone and he's kind of blocked. Folks like Phillips and Ortiz were at risk of losing their shine here pretty quickly, better to get something for them while you can. One of the reason I liked moving Brinson too, another injury year or if he'd come up and had the season that he's currently having then his shine is off. Seems to me they let go of their depth type guys in the system and held their high end guys. Not much to complain about imo as they had to free up some 40 man spots. Now just need Schoop to start hitting so everyone can relax
  14. For Sunday lineup. This year feels like less of it than in the past simply because they're constantly subbing people in lineups all week. Basically what I'm saying is there isn't a fixed daily lineup anyway, so it's tough to think Sundays are the backups days. Catcher being the obvious exception but day game off after a night game is pretty standard for the whole league, and all Cs have sucked for us this year anyway. I'd chalk it up to random chance or variance. But if you're managing the team maybe you look at some of your schedule/routines on that day and see what you might be able to do differently to change it up somehow.
  15. Criticizing the trade based on targeting a low OBP guy is fine. It seems counter to what they wanted here. But criticizing it based on 5 games is just wrong. He'll end up hitting around his career norms and will hit some ding dongs. We've lamented all year on playing Arcia, Sogard, etc at SS and getting nothing. This guy will take a chunk of those starts, is he perfect? No. But it's a big step up from what we've had at the spot. 4-5 games is nothing, guys struggle like that all the time. And in this case he's had all the transitional stuff, travel, and seeing new pitchers. Give him some time and support the guy, hopefully he'll have hot streak to carry us. If I remember his last AB was a rocket right at SS. Hopefully sign of good things to come.
  16. So he has to be perfect now? Cain and others have gotten picked off first a few times, stuff happens. Somebody else recently also got thrown out going to 3rd at a time they had no business doing it. Villar played good D this year and had next to none of the old dumb mistakes, it's like they put a stop sign up on him and he listened. He cleaned up this crap, what killed him is that he hit nowhere near what he did two years ago. It's that simple.
  17. Should've ran through the pitcher, ball flys away and run scores. #grit
  18. Kratz play the hero again? No way right. he has hit the ball well a few times today though
  19. I saw no one complaining about leaving Knebel in until after the HR happened.
  20. As noted he doesn't have a lot of options and you have to remember chance of an extended game. For al the hindsighting, after two outs and nobody on was anyone thinking "Knebel looks effed this is a huge mistake?" No, he looked fine. It was the same issues he runs into on rest or not, gets behind in counts and has to tee up the fastball, sometimes MLB hitters hit that
  21. Turns out the blown 3-0 called strike might cost us the game. Who knows, maybe story would've gone deep anyway
  22. Villar basically did none of those things to end last year or at all this year though
  23. This is exactly right. 6 run lead in the 9th is your best chance to get him a clean inning and just in general the exact time to use your worst reliever. After this I think a DL trip has to happen
  24. Yea I'd really appreciate to not have to sweat this game for once. This would be 5 straight days off for Hader if it's a blowout. I assume some will be calling for Counsel's head if he doesn't pitch tonight right? Or are we going to wait and see how he does in his next game before deciding to complain about it?
