  1. The Red Sox put themselves in a position where they don't need to scoreboard watch. They're just that good and that ahead in the standings. I don't think the Cubs players really care who won the most recent Brewers/Cardinals series. They have the confidence to know they can beat us or the Cards. Sawx this year yes they're that far ahead. think those title teams in years past that were in down to the end battles with Yanks weren't watching? And yes, the Cubs players absolutely pay attention to what MKE and STL do every day. Every player knows and it doesn't affect how they play the game in anyway. Do you think Houston isn't watching what Oakland is doing or were they surprised when they faced up last week to realize they were only a game ahead? And Hous won it last year. There was just a feature or an article a couple weeks ago involving one of these teams, had to be around the deadline, where the team was sitting around the clubhouse watching the end of their rivals game. The player in the article said some comment like "X just won again so we just have to keep focused and do all we can blah blah to win as many games as we can". If you truly believe teams don't pay attention to their competition then this is a pointless discuss. Heck, it is anyway.
  2. It's not the way Championship teams think though. We're not on the team. And yes, Cubs/Yanks/Sox fans do worry about what their rivals are doing. It's pretty much the epitome of the Sawx/Yanks and they're championship teams. And frankly as much they say they don't scoreboard watch, every player on every team in the race does it. You're fooling yourself if you think otherwise.
  3. Who cares? We care because it's our direct competition, it's really that simple. If they win and/or improve their team it directly affects the Brewer's chances.
  4. I pretty much follow all of baseball, so obviously the games most relevant to me as a Brewers fan are going to be these teams we're competing against. And while yes they still basically control their own destiny, every move/win/loss for the other team affects our chances.
  5. Jesus is far from slumping anymore. 10/23 with 5 BBs in the last week or so. Thames has been the one doing the worst lately, but with his Reds history we're trying to force him in lineups. Plus he might be hurt or something with how he didn't pinch hit last night
  6. Off days coming Thursday and Monday. Don't think you really need to worry about those too much from here out for your top guys like Cain and Yelich. Those two should almost be a lock to play every day from here as long as they don't have a nagging injury.
  7. This doesn't really apply though, it's all money and they have plenty of that. The trades giving up legit prospects though are different. Torres looks like a for sure star and the OF to the White Sox looks as good or high chance of success/star level as you can say for someone still in the minors.
  8. How did no one else claim him before the Cubs?
  9. Also, partially CC's fault for winning that game on Sunday vs STL
  10. Day game tomorrow so this is a must win to get this series. Not sure if that should be in blue or not?
  11. Yea this could get really crazy and should make for a heck of finish to the season. Just did some quick schedule searching beyond ours. CHC only plays STL one more time and it's the last 3 games. However, they do still play Phi and AZ. AZ also still has 7 vs LA and COL each, and 4 vs ATL. COL also has 3 vs STL and 6 vs LAD. So, I guess I'm just saying with all these games vs each other it's going to take care of itself and it seems to me we have the advantage here with less head to head games. Also, still don't get what Pit was thinking with their go for it trades.
  12. Jeffress has had a rubber arm all year. I wouldn't hesitate to use him for the 9th. Worry about tomorrow when it comes
  13. *eyeroll* so if they don't beat anyone good they should go to the playoff? Tougher than last year. That was the post. Exactly. Plus even just comparing it in general to college schedules it's middle of the pack. Not awful, not ridiculously tough like someone from the B1G East who also plays us and a major conf non conference. All our toughest games are on the road, two of which are supposed to be top 10ish level teams. It just looks worse than it should because BYU has fallen apart the last two years instead of their normal 9+ win teams. I like how this narrative for UW never goes away in spite the 3 mega matchups to start the year and two seasons ago when they played all the big guys from the East plus LSU and still won 10 games and went down to the wire in all their losses vs top teams. Next year they get MSU, Mich, and OSU.
  14. Is this a joke? This year's schedule is infinitely better than last years schedule. It's literally not a debatable topic. And they'll have to play one of the big 4 from the other side in the title game, likely OSU.
  15. I'm pretty sure he'll be up on Sept 1. Right now you want the guy who can play every position on D really well. Perfect example is they couldn't get Thames in the lineup tonight vs a righty P and his history with the Reds. So not much PT for Santana. Let him stay in rhythm in AAA until Sept and then see what he can help with to finish the year. If Braun gets hurt again there's his chance
  16. That would be my guess, same year the shoebox scandal killed them right? Gotta sya I don't like us being ranked ahead of OSU. I'm sure it's all because of the Urban situation, but Urban isn't going anywhere and OSU is loaded. I'd rather be a bit further off the radar. With the tougher schedule this year there isn't any worries about being left out as long as they win the B1G with at most 1 loss.
  17. I'm not sure if I've seen it mentioned but I think I saw on twitter that Hamels had us on his no-trade list. Granted, he might have waived it in a year like this but it would've been a hurdle. Maybe he demands his option picked up for next year or something. He was someone I wanted months ago due to his bad contract so you don't have to give up a ton of prospects, but I didn't know about the no trade clause.
  18. No, if they served a PED suspension in any part of a given season they're not eligible for the playoffs. It changed a few years ago.
  19. I'd really just rather go with Woodruff than these guys. With him and Davies back soon plus all the off days you shouldn't need any more blah SP arms.
  20. Some of the gain is being lost by Schoop being so bad that the improvement gained from not playing Shaw vs lefties hasn't come. That should have been a significant boost but hasn't come to reality yet.
  21. Looks to me like Davis has only played 11 games in the OF this year. Presumably games in NL parks. So yea I think Oak figured that out too. I think most here and likely the folks in charge didn't think he'd have this kind of hitting success going forward since it seemed so streaky for us. I never thought he'd be this good or maintain it this consistently, so yea in hindsight they probably got less of a return than they should have, but their hand was kind of forced by the D and had to trade him and thought better to do it then rather than risk injury or a dropoff.
  22. basically need to get 6 of the next 9. Get 7 and you did really well and should be in good shape. Starting out with a sweep sure would be nice to quelch all the pessimism of late.
  23. It will be the offseason. It is not Schoop or Pérez as the options. We could go another route. For the record I think he ends up tendered if he can look like an MLB hitter before the season ends. true, but unless you go 'dumpster diving' so to speak and just try to get lucky on some unknown you're gonna have to spend several million. Probably not 10 mil but likely something significant. Just can't imagine they'd trade that much and then let go so quickly instead of hoping for a rebound.
  24. Sure 10 mil is a lot but they can't let him go. Keep in mind Moose is almost assuredly gone next year therefore a lot more PT needed and no other clear 2B option. You're still better off keeping him and hoping for a rebound. Otherwise you're left starting Perez at 2B rather than your jack of all trades backup where he should be and is valuable.
  25. Vott on the DL right now though. Gotta get this one first. 2/3 from CIN and you're fine
