  1. Schoop the last two years is better vs lefties, I think the reverse was only early in his career. Arcia basically can't hit vs anyone so that's not much of anything to consider for me.
  2. That's the way I look at it too. And I'd add in that it provides injury insurance on the whole infield so that if someone goes down you're not playing Perez/Salad every day during the playoff chase.
  3. I don't think they'll view it as a need next year. Anderson, Chacin, Guerra have all been fairly solid. Nelson will hopefully be full strength and Burnes should be ready to step right in. Still have Davies, Woodruff, Peralta, maybe Miley as depth guys to fill in with injuries. If something presents itself I'm sure they'll consider it and look into if a good value but their starting pitching on paper should look much better going into next year than it did going into this year.
  4. It's baseball, guys go through bad stretches. You don't send them down every time it happens. Sure, he wasn't going to keep hitting 320 with 4 HRs a week but that doesn't mean he all of a sudden just sucks. Folks overreact to short stretches way too much in baseball.
  5. Cmon, the guy was in the ASG two weeks ago and likely would've been #2 MVP for the NL at the time of ASG. He's not going down and they would never even broach the subject of it. If there's something up with him a 10 DL could happen to clean it up, but not AAA
  6. He is that good but he's gone after two years. There is literally no way we can afford his next contract. Sure would be cool while it lasted but if you don't win the WS in those two years you're done for the next 6 years.
  7. Has to be Saladino. They're just not going to have a need for rotating doors of who's starting each day like it's been all season now that they have Moose and Schoop above all the Salad/Sogard/Perez guys.
  8. Don't see record but vs lefties team OPS goes down 49 points, avg 19, obp 14, slug 34.
  9. I tried finding on baseball ref but couldn't find it, but don't we have a really bad record vs lefties this year? Just like we're really bad in day games. This would improve the vs lefties lineup and the Cubs have 4 lefty starters right now.
  10. WE've had a great D this year in spite of so-so defenders at 1B, 3b, 2b and one of the OF spots wherever Thames/Braun play. Kind of have to think a key part of the quality D is analytics and shifting, of course along with Yelich and Cain having some good range in the OF. Are they pushing the envelope if you play 6-7 innings a game with a Schoop/Shaw combo, definitely. This outside the box, we'll see what happens but so far I think we have to give benefit of the doubt to our management.
  11. There is likely to be some even more extreme bullpen usage coming with all the off days and expanded rosters in September. So it's a good thing to have quality hitters to come in with the double switches as opposed to Perez/Orf. Is the price worth it is certainly debatable but it's definitely an improvement and a team like ours doing this bullpen shuffle needs it more than anyone else.
  12. Schoop can play SS at least a bit. I assume that was a key here, but I guess we're waiting to here an explanation for sure if our assumption on that being part of the plan is true.
  13. Or if Thames gets hurt Shaw/Moose can get a few games at 1B. Basic thing I think we can all get behind is that we should see very little of the Perez, Sogard, villar, and Orfs from here on out. Generally speaking, I think we gave up more than I expected. But he does have another year of control so I kinda get it. Hope he stays hot
  14. 300/360 last year and 255/308 this year vs lefties. Not a drastic tick up but he's predictably better vs lefty than righty
  15. Bit higher prospect than I would have guessed, but I also thought he was a FA at the end of year. So you have the juggle this year and then next year he's the 2B and Shaw back to 3B.
  16. Have to consider the forward thinking to make sure we have enough quality hitters to cover the DH in the World Series
  17. Someone here looked him up and said he played SS coming up? So 2B vs lefties and a few games at SS each week. Plus when Arcia comes in for D substituting he can go over to 2B. IDK, this will be interesting
  18. Shaw last year vs lefties 235/305 with 743 OPS. This year 214/287 with 537. Yea so a platoon could certainly help there. and then give Schoop a few games at SS each week. I think he came up playing a lot of SS in the minors.
  19. They just traded their C, Nottingham could make sense. What's your max offers? I seem higher on Archer than most here but I'm still not giving up a ransom and if that's not good enough so be it. I'd like to see others but top of my head something like Nottingham, Santana, one of Peralta/Woodruff and a lower level guy. I don't think that gets close to getting it done. I'm sure someone who know more than me will come up with something I like better that might actually have a chance to get it done.
  20. IDK, the proposed above seems a bit much to give up IMO. We'll see, hour to go
  21. Extremely rare! For your reasoning and mine... That's why I said, "Marlins aren't dealing with the Brewers so soon after the Yelich trade"... But it's not out of some principle thing as you implied. It's out of odds and scenarios aligning twice so quickly is very very rare. A team dumping off their entire roster because they're idiots is such a scenario that could lead to it though. Essentially, it's not like the Marlins aren't talking to MKE because they just did a deal with us as the initial post implied. It's just unlikely the stars align twice so quickly and that we have the best offer twice in that short of a span.
  22. Somehow they keep bringing up pitching, I'll believe they're not competitive when I see it. Not saying playoffs every year or anything but I don't see them bottoming out.
  23. Yea a Harper/Bryant/Rizzo combo for the next 6 years doesn't scare you? Put Harper first in the trio so he can't get walked a million times, or if you do walk him you're setting up some problems. They pretty much do have unlimited money to spend.
  24. IDK, that would have given them a pretty good leg up to sign him, especially with his relationship with Bryant. Not sure I'd want him on the Cubs the next 6 years. Glad to see him to the Yanks instead.
  25. What Bill Hall Star said is a very logical way to look at it.
