  1. Sorry managers don't make lineups based off the last 3 games. I was one of the at least no more Perez, Sogard, etc type when the trade went down. Yea just didn't expect them to play him over Arcia. Guess I was wrong but Perez is still a better hitter than Arcia and not awful on D. Hey at least we can say no more Sogard, Orfs, haha
  2. For them to handle bad pub of doing this, I'd assume Yelich would have to be in plus our top prospects. Something like Yelich, Huira, Burnes, Ray, Zach Brown. IDK, it would have to be an absolute truckload for ANA to take it, so essentially it wouldn't really be fair for MKE.
  3. IDK, you could easily argue that since we don't have an ace it's better for us because it slightly reduces the likelihood that the other team's ace is available to start. For us, we get the one off day which makes every reliever available for that game, just like they would be with two days off.
  4. I think I saw something that LA and other teams have it in their stadium contracts with the city on only having X amount of day games on weekdays due to the effect on rush hour traffic. So sometimes nothing can be done. In a weird quirk I believe the Wrigley neighborhood has a rule on how many night games are allowed each year. Opposite of everyone else.
  5. You still have at least one off day before the NLDS. Your 2 inning guys like Burnes/Hader might not be available, but everyone else would be fine for the start of the NLDS. You pull out all stops and worry about it later.
  6. Any guesses on roster moves today with pitchers? Albers and Williams have both been in a rough patch. Maybe Albers isn't really healthy yet and needs another 10 day, IDK
  7. Kinda shocking Harper cleared, sure you know Nats are just gonna pull back anyway. But there was no long term contract to worry about or anything. which leads to my question, if you put in a claim and the player gets pulled back (like Harper would have) does it negatively affect you in any way for making other claims? I think it goes all by record, but maybe you move down the list or something?
  8. Too bad Duffy's contract wasn't more like Archer's at 8-9 mil instead of 15. With his years of control he'd be one that I'm intrigued by. Get him out of the AL with his stuff and with our pitching coach and it wouldn't surprise me if he took off here. Money is a bit more than is ideal but hey if they're going for it it might be worth for the next few years, it's not like they have to pay anyone else anytime soon. Cheaper than any legit FA SP you're going to be able to get, that's for sure.
  9. I believe there is a crazy stat that since Trout has been called up he hasn't gone more than 2 games without getting on base. Maybe it was 3 games, either way. Absolutely crazy Mike Trout is ridiculous. But he did have that 6-game hitless streak this year. Still got on base in 4 of them though, with 7 walks. Yea it's just another one of the crazy Trout stats out there showing how beyond ridiculous he is. I just looked at that streak. I think he'd have been 7/22 for obp in that stretch still and one of the games was a day off pinch hit appearance. It's also an example too of how BA isn't as important as obp to judge on, one of the games he was walked 4 times. tough to get a hit if they won't throw you a pitch.
  10. Relax, it's 2 games and it's baseball where you fail 65-70% of the time even if you're doing well. Thankfully I couldn't watch last night, but in the first game he hit at least two of the balls hard that I remember. Wouldn't surprise me if he gets tonight off though to let him catch his breath. Been a crazy couple days with him I'm sure getting things figured out, traveling cross country twice in a couple days. Lefty pitcher Saturday I believe
  11. I believe there is a crazy stat that since Trout has been called up he hasn't gone more than 2 games without getting on base. Maybe it was 3 games, either way. Absolutely crazy
  12. as long as there isn't a game 163 I really don't see the issue. There is a day off before the game and if you win at least one off after, I don't see the concern.
  13. I'm not really sure I see the Gray love with how bad he's been. Do we really wanna risk several starts during the stretch to find out if he can get it back. It seems like there's more support for Gray than there was for Gio Gonzalez who has been so much better than him the last couple years. Sure, better than Wilkerson but other than that I'd rather start our guys. You have the current guys plus Woodruff and hopefully Davies soon, plus all the off days to reduce needs for 5th. We shoooould be ok.
  14. Along those lines, maybe his stats might look better if he wasn't going out for that extra inning or two. Assuming he he has poor stats in the 6-8 innings that is if someone wanted to look. I might have phrased that poorly but I think you should get what I mean. And I'm not really advocating for Shields, I'd rather just roll with Woodruff. Jsut saying the point you make would also theoretically help his % and ratio related stats. For example, following Rodon he'd probably have a sub 2 ERA if he pitched for the Brewers instead of his idiot manager pushing him every game until he has an inning where he gives up 2 runs late.
  15. Don't most of us think Woodruff can do just as well or even better than that crap list of names? I'm not saying he'll dominate or anything, but I'd say it's just as likely he can put up the 4-4.5 ERA those guys would do at their best.
  16. Knebel looked amazing last night, like he did during his awesome first half last year. problem is he just hasn't looked like that very often this year. For his stuff being electric, is it really? he has a great FB, no doubt. other than all he has is a curveball that he only sometimes can control to the point most teams just don't swing at it. If he consistently gets his curveball back he'll be dominant again, until that happens though how can you not be a bit nervous with him. Tonight was what we know he can do, hope he rounds into form for the rest of the year and dominates. And yes i know he'll still give up runs and blow a game here or there, it happens. But as long as it's not due to the curve just being nowhere near the plate then I don't view it as a flag of any kind. sometimes MLB hitters hit fastballs, nothing you can do about it. For example, the Hader mia game where they just blasted back to back fastballs, it happens. or I remember a Jeffress one where first batter got a hit and next guy first pitch HR a fastball, it happens. What's frustrating is when guys go out there and half their appearances they don't know where the ball is going.
  17. On to tonight’s game. So, we can agree to disagree but I think these guys have been pretty close, and I feel just as confident (and just as nervous) with either of them closing. If they flipped roles I don’t think it would make much, if any, difference in the team’s results. That's fine. You went back two months to make it close, if you go back one month it's not close, if you go back the whole season it's not close. Depends when you start it, I'm just more comfortable with the one who's been consistent all year. But like i said when I first posted, I didn't want it to be a Knebel bash as he's still clearly one of our best guys and need to him to kind of get more back to how he was earlier this year and last year. And I do agree with you on not taking Jeffress out of his current role, I like that they're using their best guy at the most important moments instead of sitting on him for a traditional closer spot. I was just saying that I also liked that with the way last night's game went you only had one inning to go and you went with your best guy instead of the old 'we have to use our closer now' because it counts as a save. They just went with what they felt was the best way to win instead of dumb baseball norms
  18. Knebel's July ERA is 5.25 and gave up runs in 5 of his last 10. Jeffress was 2.38 in both July and August. Only gave up runs in 3 games in July. Yes he's not perfect like he was April/May but he's still clearly our best guy. Surprisingly they had the same amount of walks in July with only 4. I'd like to see a count on how many 3 ball counts Knebel had thought and how often he starts at least 2-0. Moreover, eye test it's clear Knebel isn't as good. On any given night he has no idea if his curver is there or not. A lot of it depends on how you slice and dice it, but before his clean outings Jeffress had a rough stretch of 6 games in which he gave up 11 hits and 3 walks in 5.1 innings and gave up runs in 3 of the 6 outings. Maybe I’m in the minority, but right now my confidence in both of them is about the same. I’m not all that concerned about which of the two of them closes because they are both critical to the team’s success and, as often as not, they will both have to cover an inning in winnable games. If you say so, the numbers doon't lie. even with a couple bad outings he's still been way better than Knebel, and really not close. Even Jeffress's regressing the last two months he still had a 2.38 which is really good. And he passes the eye test, not constantly behind in the count, more pitches, etc. To each their own I guess but to me it's not even close.
  19. I posted something about this late in last night’s game thread, but after being nearly perfect in April and late into May Jeffress has had some rough outings too. Over the last two months Jeffress and Knebel have been pretty comparable.
  20. I really don't think there would be any fan revolt, as some have said most folks at this time have a meh attitude and anyone even moderately knowledgeable knows he's on a pricey contract and not living up to it. Nearly everyone would understand and accept it as the right move.
  21. I was so happy to see Jeffress in the 9th instead of sticking to closer norms. Not trying to make this a bash Knebel post, more of a pro Jeffress. But it's clear Jeffress is the best reliever we have, and possibly has been the best in the whole league this year. In a situation like last night, he should be in there over Knebel.
  22. And two strong games after all the drama a few nights ago. Maybe that kind of got them motivated or got the locker room stuff cleared up a bit. Sometimes karma and chemistry goes longer in baseball than people realize. Plus Strasburg should be back soon. I just checked my sites odds on them to win the division and it's only +200, was hoping for a better payout than that. Suprisingly ATL is also +200 and Philly +130. If anything I'd have thought Philly was the more likely to team to fall off
  23. I really don't see why Woodruff shouldn't be able to do what most of these types of folks can give us
  24. we would pull him back from waivers when he's claimed and he'd be back on the Brewers.
