  1. They have to be active here and find someone better than Bandy. Find this year's Vogt type pickup
  2. Besides the bat. Another odd or different thing for Braun pretty much his whole career is how far he stands off the plate. Almost everyone stands on top of the plate these days, he's one of the few that doesn't. Chicken/egg for the bat when it comes to this. In the latter years here he's become such an opposite field hitter which is kind of odd considering he stands so far off the plate. IDK, maybe if he moved in a bit he could use the smaller bat and chase less on the outside stuff.
  3. Well said. Better than I've been able to say it over the years and in this thread.
  4. I'm happy for Scooter to be doing well. Good for him, hope he can make himself a nice chunk of money. But anyone that claims they saw this coming is just full of it. Also, I'd gladly take him back if the price wasn't high. with a jack of all trades utility guy like Perez it could allow for a no flex guy like him. Plus, he'd be playing every game vs a righty so reduces your need for bench players to play (vs now when you're rotating every day it seems)
  5. I was talking about when they decided on a policy. Not this case. Everyone knows the rules they're dealing with now and it's their responsibility, even if it is a legit accident.
  6. I get it, we can be high and mighty and make it as strict as possible because everyone is obsessed with this in baseball for some reason. Everyone can have their opinion and I see all sides, just saying mine. But really it came down to an arbitrary chosen line on the list of supplements, they could have moved it to point B instead of point A and none of us would know the difference and less people are then 'cheaters'. I believe MLB is considered to have the strictest ban and best testing in all of sports, including the Olympics. I'm just saying I wouldn't care if they pulled back a bit to be kind of more the same as other leagues. Keep in mind a lot of this stuff is totally legal for joe schmo to use in every day life. It's not like the anabolic stuff of 25 years ago that was a massive health risk to the body like is being implied here, some of this stuff is healthy for you.
  7. Yea I wasn't saying I predict he was innocent, just that I wouldn't be surprised given his contract status and HOF status. Of course I'd guess this was something he'd done several times over the years. For me, I'd just move the line a bit to allow more of the stuff to be legal. I want the best players on the field. Keep the real anabolic stuff of the 90s to massively bulk up out of play but loosen up on the other stuff a bit.
  8. The guys who juice don't look at it that way. They are used to being a great player, and want to continue being great as long as possible. Sure, that's probably true too especially if he's been getting by with it just fine for years. But I'm sure some people do just mess up and not know. Of course basically they all say it was an accident, just saying that chances are at least some % of them did just screw up out of ignorance and not being careful. Might be a very small percent, but it's probably not 0. I think this is what Pujols did. He got that mega deal and quit doing what he was doing since he had his money locked up now and his HOF and all time great status was cemented. Basically fell off a cliff since then. Of course it's just pure speculation but I'd have my money on him being a past user if I had to pick a side. I think the only thing ever to get out on him was a former trainer who said he was.
  9. Really wouldn't surprise me if this was an accident. I mean, he's already got his money locked up. On track to make HOF if he plays another 4-5 years as he would get to 3000 hits. He'd have to be an idiot to take this on purpose or knowingly. Of course, it wouldn't surprise me if he's been doing it to stay healthy for years either.
  10. Reports I saw said it will be effective immediately. It's somewhat fortunate, but again he'll be without pay during the suspension. CBS sports says he can't serve suspension until he's healthy. It works that way in the NBA too.
  11. Nelson Cruz was suspended in the Biogen scandal, same as Braun.
  12. He's going to get more time, there's no doubt about that. Those advanced stats show why he'll get more leeway. But as we said going into the year, this depth should allow them to toss Braun on the DL whenever something is acting up and not worry about it, rather than forcing through it like last year because you'd be playing some stiff out there. This seems like the right time to follow through on that idea and do it. Back flared up, has had calf issues. Other guys are healthy and he's been slumping. Seems perfect timing to me. When he's back, he'll be right back into the top of the order and given several more weeks. ETA: If things stay the same for a few more weeks and all the other main guys start/keep hitting like they all kind of are, then yea you move him down to 6th and based on how Braun has handled himself of late I really don't think he'll make a fuss about it. You don't hear anything negative on him, you see him talking to young guys, congratulating them, everything you kind of look at from afar since we have no access.
  13. That's one way to spin having a 25-17 record with only a +6 run differential. Banking the wins is nice, but they keep relying on late comebacks and bullpen wins. If they continue to barely outscore the opposition on average, that record is going to come back down to .500 to go along with it. They have been unlucky with injuries, but they've been more lucky with run sequencing to more than make up for it. Basically, this record is unsustainable unless they start getting better production across the board and stop relying on winning close games. That is not a viable long-term strategy. ^ Wrong thread. The response here is that we're 25-17 with only the bullpen playing well. If the other aspects round into shape they're well on the way to the playoffs and WS.
  14. Considering Braun's last 10 days or so maybe it wouldn't be the worst time to toss him on the 10 day and recharge everything. The other 3 OFs are healthy right now and hitting well, and Jesus is raking. You have one off day this week too. It was good to see them stats posted last night about still hitting the ball hard which was true last year too. So still confident he'll end up being a contributing hitter this year and end up in the 275/335 type areas by end of year. Of course not what he was in the past, but still a contributing player. And it would officially take him out of the discussion of best hitter on the team. Prior to the year I'd have guessed him, Yelich, Cain would be in the same ballpark. those guys with higher obp but him more power numbers, and with his pedigree I'd have taken him at crunch time game on the line. Think positive though, in spite of his bad year so far he's been like the only guy doing with RISP and has won several games with clutch hits.
  15. The exit velo on liners and fly balls is impressive too. Ranked 25th in almost 400 hitters. I still think pitch selection needs to improve but this is nice to see. Might be a big reason why Counsell hasn’t panicked with him hitting in the 3-hole. Also, Goldschmidt will be just fine too. Same stuff was true last year too, he had some of the best line drive, exit velocity stuff of his whole career. Until he fell off the last month with whatever injury it was. Aside from yesterday he's passed the eye test of late. Has cut out down the chasing low outside sliders. Still one of the guys who pops up the least. Would like to see some of it translate to hits on the field though. Like, he 'should' be ok as the season goes on but at some point it needs to happen.
  16. Was surprised to see Braun in their yesterday day game after night and having played several in a row. guess we see why they always sit him in those situations, looked bad yesterday. Even in the struggles he's still looked or passed the eye test fine after the first two weeks when he was chasing the low outside slider over and over. Seemed off yesterday, hesitant on swings and just kinda not there. Lefty pitcher tonight too so likely playing today too.
  17. right, starting pitching has been mediocre as expected. BP has been great, as expected but better than could be expected. Offense way less with no one overperforming except Jesus. Get some bounce back from Santana, Braun, Shaw and some movement from awful to respectable from Arcia/Pina and this team could rack up some wins.
  18. Sweet, lets do a bash Braun during cold streaks and then be quiet during hot streaks. Should be a fun year. Just posted it in the last few days, he's 300/343ish after the first two awful weeks. Think he was ofer yesterday so that's down now but if you watched the game he smoked the ball at least two of his ABs. Seriously, of course he could fall of this year or at any time. Look at a guy like Matt Carpenter, Gonzalez last year, Batista last year. Could happen but going into the year there was no reason to predict it would happen. Moreover, he has the nagging calf problem supposedly so not healthy, haha
  19. Reminds me of this game although not all Bush's fault Another great Bush memory I have. At some point after a bad game, a MJS article was headlined "Bush Gets Pounded Hard Again". #phrasing.
  20. My exact thought. With no experience yet this season, he should not have been the guy in that situation. That had potential to be a mess quickly. I know there are those here who love CC and think the mangaer has little to no bearing on game results, but I am questioning CC a lot lately, and it is strating to bug me. How are the historical stats on Chacin the 3rd time through? I'm guessing not good and that's why guys like him, Guerra, Suter are going to get quick hooks. Who was it years ago that you'd see it coming in the 6th or 7th inning that he was losing is but they'd ride it out with the old strategy and he'd give up a chunk of runs, Bush? Maybe Estrada? I think you're talking about 90% of the starting pitchers we've had since 1984. ha, true. I think it was Bush. Like he'd give up 0-2 hits in like 6 innings then it would just go boom for him
  21. Not a huge difference https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=chacijh01&year=Career&t=p#all_times yea slight uptick but not crazy. Thanks. They showed Guerra yesterday during the game and it was ridiculous, so it's kind of like aha this makes sense.

  23. The way our pen has been this year a double play will come here. We'll see.
  24. I don't understand how everyone doesn't do the college football model. Best way of doing it imo. Stick a guy up in the booth every game, if he needs a couple quick looks at it, he buzzes down. Takes 4-5 looks at it, boom done. It's really that easy. And in most cases of baseball with the dead time you don't have to stop anything, he'll get his 4 looks in while prepping for the next pitch. And in baseball you tell them no dicking around staring at the ump like the managers do now. just go on like normal, if he needs a look he/she will stop it.
