  1. The last pitch to Santana low and outside would've been a good one to just put in play to the right side. move the runner along at the very least to set up the sacrifice
  2. Darn walks. He looked so sharp the first two guys then just couldn't locate anything. Yea JJ has been so good so you question. But i'd guess since he can pitch multiple innings they prefer him not paired with Hader so to speak
  3. In that scenario you're also getting a starting 2B for the next several years.
  4. I can get behind this 100% not that it’s our call but yeah good work should be rewarded - just like there should be some form of decline penalty for absurd deals. It’s nice to see some teams moving away from those bad bad deals but it’s not a perfect system by any means ! Right and I don't blame them at all for making him show it again. Look how they were almost burned by Villar. Someone said his agent made some comments not happy about him not getting a deal last offseason, would lead me to believe they want to do exactly what I'm getting at by setting him for life. As long as they don't have some crazy expectations (which they really can't given his arby situation) you'd think something could get worked out if does well for the rest of the year
  5. OK good, yea it's been a while since i looked or saw it mentioned. Either way, I wasn't too concerned about a 20-30 game sample as I'm sure you could tell. With his D all you need is to be ok at offense and you're coming out ahead
  6. YEa with how close Shaw was to really not making significant money in this game. If you bought out his arby and another year or two and let him put 30 mil in the bank I don't think he's walking away. Note, I did no research on years left etc so cut some slack. Just getting at the general premise of locking up the money to set him for life
  7. With them looking to trade Domingo in the offseason that means they were comfortable with Phillips getting a lot of PT this year as I'm sure they knew Braun would miss a lot of game. Last I remember Phillips wasn't hitting the greatest in AAA but that defensive OF would be tremendous when he's in there for Braun. At some point if you're a good prospect you're gonna have to play in the bigs and show it, that would be Phillips time.
  8. Wasn't Villar the one that hit the bullet that ended in the DP. one of the hard balls he's hit this year
  9. I'm by no means up in arms. I'm fine trying anything new as we know Bandy can't hack it. I just hope they're still looking or maybe they're just waiting on the minor leaguer to be ready off the DL. Glad they're not content with Bandy and didn't kick this down the road any longer
  10. consider me underwhelmed on this one. But I'm firmly in the camp of trying something else since obviously Bandy is terrible, will be very tough to be worse than him. But something else has to be out there. Eitehr of the minor league options would have been more appealing imo
  11. Hopefully it takes about two weeks to kickstart Arcia and in those two weeks Sogard starts at most two games
  12. I saw the double play on replay and it was hit hard and the first AB was of course good. I'm just saying 1/4 night is pretty standard in the league of a blah night, not enough for people to lament that he's absolutely terrible and the cause for a shutout.
  13. only watched the first inning as I was busy. Why the vitriol for Braun after this game 1/4 was as good as anyone else did. First AB of course was a perfect piece of hitting. No strikeouts, what was so bad?
  14. I'd guess yelich sits for Braun so Jesus stays in the lineup.
  15. I'm sure that was the Cubs' thinking with Chapman as well. While he helped get them a Series win, if there were looking to lock him up longterm, that backfired. That maybe true, I don't think it was but of course I don't know for sure. Still, my point was they would have that intention and attempt to do it so it makes more sense, not saying it would work. MKE would have 0 chance at resigning him.
  16. Cubs would have every intention of singing him long term and would view it as giving them the upper hand or head start in the negotiation.
  17. Why wait until August and potentially cost yourself a game or two? It's blatantly obvious, something should happen right away.
  18. Now let's get Pitt in there instead of STL and I'd be happy.
  19. Im sure he looked at the only numbers he thought matters to glod glove voters. The offensive numbers. I think after backlash to that controversial Jeter year 8 years ago where he was one of the worst defenders in baseball and won the award, they basically defaulted to picking out of a hat between UZR, dWAR, etc. for the award. They actually do a decent job now. found the article: https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2018/5/17/17363592/manny-machado-triple-crown-hunt-shortstop-struggles "Among the 25 shortstops who have played at least 250 innings this year, he ranks last in both advanced defensive metrics displayed at FanGraphs, with negative-5 defensive runs saved and a negative-3.6 ultimate zone rating. In the latter stat, Machado is so far back from the pack that 24th-place Trea Turner is as close to 11th place as he is to Machado. And if placing last among his peers isn’t enough, the most damning fact about Machado’s early defensive returns is that his fielding numbers on a per-game basis place him near Derek Jeter at the Yankee shortstop’s defensive nadir."
  20. Oakland is winning though and haning in the WC. Trades won't be anytime soon for Lucroy or Lowry.
  21. Ha, I get your larger point about basically not caring about the sideline reporter/conversation at all and generally agree. But if you're going to be in this job or discussing who is good at it, being able to speak Spanish is a huge plus when a third to half of the team has Spanish for a first language. On a side not, how incredible is it that such a large portion of MLB is Latino. All these small population tiny countries with next to ne resources produce almost as many players as the US. It's crazy to think about. Or maybe a bit embarrassing that we're not better if you look at from the USA perspective.
  22. I'd think Hamels is the real only option to me. And it would have to be pretty much a salary dump type of trade where we basically give up no legit prospects in exchange for taking on that money. I'd rather spend $$ than prospects, I want to hold all the starting pitching prospects.
  23. That just seems like too much for me. While I know Realmuto is good and I'd love him on the team, but he's not Buster Posey level good. He's basically the same level as Lucroy was in his prime if not a notch below. IMO that's significantly more than we gave them for Yellich and that simply shouldn't be the case.
  24. I see no way this could happen for MKE with him being so far out of our price range in the offseason. Just doesn't make sense at all to me. Other teams who can sign him will just beat what we could feasibly offer knowing that we won't sign him. On a sidenote, I saw some MLB TV talk the other day on values and future contracts for Harper, Machado, and Trout's was mentioned too. Point made by one of them was the defensive position value advantage Machado and Trout have over Harper since they're much tougher/important positions. One proceeds to say Machado is playing SS at a gold glove level. I just saw something the other day that he's probably the worst regular defensive SS in the league so far. Granted it's a small sample, but basically he should go back to 3B. If you're paid to analyze baseball on TV you'd think you'd look some of this stuff up
