    Just did some quick math and if you take out the ridiculous April before he was figured out Thames was 238/308 for the rest of the year. I hope I did everything correctly on that. Still, i'm confident if he only faces RHP he'll be an adequate player. But as someone said, let's not make him out to be more than he was.

    Yup, that's the dilemma. If they add only one SP then you clearly need Woodruff now. This big hypothetical being thrown around is to add two though. Sure he'd still be the first guy up if someone went down, but with Jimmy coming back that would give you 6 starters so Woodruff is less likely to be needed now. so you'd only need the Suters/wilkersons to cover for a couple months. Of course that's assuming Davies isn't in a trade or else you're back to the first point again. But still just a would you rather, since there's a good chance you're not getting Archer without one. Maybe they'll cave and take Ortiz instead.

    If you had to give up one of Woodruff or Burnes who would you choose? Woodruff obviously is ready. Burnes seems like more upside potential and him being up a year or two later might be a better timeline to step in as you lose others. Whereas Woodruff might not (hopefully wouldn't be) needed in the next two years if you acquire these Ps to play in front of him.

    I think the whole post is very obtuse. They are relieving that pressure by playing Braun at first and both Broxton and Philips have options. There is plenty of room for Santana and any perceived NEED to trade him is artificial. I'd think their aggressive efforts to trade Santana since basically the day the season ended would have been more than enough of an indication that the Brewers wanted to move him. I also think it's ironically obtuse for you to call out other posters after such a condescending tone of your own. If you want to go off of HH19's post then fine, some of us aren't as sold as some others. OK, yea just keep attacking everyone that makes for a great time. Carry on. Ya'll who dug in at the time that it didn't hurt their leverage are just sticking to the arguments rather than admitting they 'might' be wrong. How can ya'll be so positive enough to bash people so much when no one really knows for sure. All the other guy is saying is there could be a number of reasons and the leverage issue could very likely be one of them, especially since the insider said EXACTLY that. Then you guys are attacking him that it's impossible and he's clueless. Been tough to read.

    I don't see how we can so easily say Santana still fits on the roster. This is reliant on Braun covering 1B and no one really knows for sure how that will go. It's great they've been so aggressively getting that word out there though. Which, in my opinion, them being so outspoken about Braun trying 1st is kind of showing they're not seeing the value they want in Santana talks and might think they themselves a leverage problem. Plus, it then forces you to trade someone else. There's a clear roster crunch.

    Yea I said I'd agree for exact reason you said of worrying about Braun's injuries. But I totally see the logic of saving the money too and why it would be possible to go that way, I don't think the team would though. They're going for it, no reason to get cheap right now so I wouldn't let it that cost you the P you want. One thing that popped in my head now would be taking that 5 mil saved and using that as the extra money to finally sign Walker. So, Walker would be your starting 2B but also be your 1st base insurance on Braun. More bang for that 5 mil so to speak.

    I really wanted to side with you on the whole argument above, but it doesn't help when you suggest things like this. With all due respect, the notion of trading Thames and keeping Aguilar undermines your credibility completely. Thames is a much better player than Aguilar and they need an LHB 1b. Aguilar has been about two tiers below Thames for their entire careers, including the minors, and is a total waste of a roster spot. With Braun at 1b, the idea of keeping a one-dimensional RHB who can only play 1b (and barely, at that) is mind-numbingly foolish. If you think he can actually fetch some prospects, then maybe you'd have a point, but we've seen in free agency that guys with his profile are hardly even neutral assets. Teams could easily sign Morrison or Duda or Lind for less than 8 figures without giving up anything. The idea of Aguilar being on a level with Thames because he had one good season as a part-time player is stuck in people's heads for some reason and they can't get it out despite all logic to the contrary. It's the worst Milwaukee sports case of collective insanity since thinking Brandon Jennings was a future superstar. I think it's more about saving the 5 mil so you can spend that money on a P. I don't think he or anyone would say they'd prefer have Jesus over Thames baseball-wise. At least I hope not, but when you factor in that 5 mil to a team about to go up against their financial ceiling. And since they're backups you might not get much bang for your buck on that 5 mil. Still, with Braun's injury history I'm probably paying the 5 mil for insurance on that. But I see the logic.

    I think it's very obtuse to think acquiring two OFs to play in front of Santana doesn't or at least couldn't hurt his value. First, it shows they clearly need to move him so will likely take less. Second, it shows MKE might think there is some issues with him to so aggressively try to improve from him. And I'd say it's even more obtuse and rude to aggressively bash another poster when our beloved insider (who we're all treating as gospel right now but at the least has some kind of inside info) literally said this is exactly the reason it happened.

    Not as bad as I thought I heard people mention before, just in his very small MLB sample so far then. And yea for the agreement thing I guess then yea you're dealing with handshake verbal things that are shady and Cain shouldn't take that risk.

    But Stearns acquired Brinson and Diaz and we don't know that Brinson is a high strikeout player. Brinson had a horrible K rate in the minors didn't he? If it's been a problem there it's very unlikely to just go away vs MLB pitching.

    Gotcha, I meant that it's done deal with Cain with a signed contract, just don't tell anyone. But yes you can only keep a lid on that for so long before someone leaks or another team figures it out and leaks. But in that scenario Cain wouldn't have to worry about MKE going back on their word like if it was just a verbal agreement. Maybe they only needed a bit more time but yes overall I know how difficult this type of thing is to pull off. Personally I'm pretty low on Moustakas and his poor obp skills and general inconsistency over the years. But I do notice his K % is ok which fits their goals. Personally I'd stay away from Moustakas though. I hope it doesn't come to that and would rather just pay money to a FA P than him.

    Thanks for all the info. For this, I can't really see Phillips playing over Santana and Braun on a daily basis since most Ps are righties. That's just going to kill Santana's value even more.. And if Braun is healthy he's going to play since he's still the best hitter when healthy. Hopefully he can be adequate at 1B to create some flex all over the lineup. For giving up all this for Yelich and then platooning him, I checked is splits and 266/329 isn't great vs lefties so in the current scenario yes you might as well get the righties out there since they're so good. Hopefully there's a trade out there for Santana that resolves all this more easily. Couldn't they have done the Cain signing and just kept it quiet for another couple days until the Santana trade goes down?

    Greinke did just put up a 3.2 ERA season and 200 innings last year. He's not some bum that they just need to clear out. There's 4 years left on the deal and it seems likely he should still at least be quality for two of the years. If they're being forced to eat a big chunk of money in a trade they're just going to keep him and they can 'eat' the big chunk of money in his last year of the deal when he's probably going to be bad.

    I suppose maybe it's different for non season package holders of all kinds and maybe the lottery was still in place in case they did have more demand, but I bet anyone who asked last year got them since the last couple years they were still trying to sell just before the game, fwiw. This year that looks unlikely. I actually decided to not re-up my package this year due to at the time of decision planning on spending a good chunk of money on the CFB playoffs, kind of regretting it now but of course can still do it. I just wouldn't get the early buyer discount.

    I don't think there was the last couple years. They actually sent out emails a few weeks before the last few years saying opening day tickets are still open for sail. So, I had my two with my package but then could buy basically as many as I wanted individually. That might change this year though after all this

    I actually was trying to think of other options besides ones mentioned already and thought of the Sox. For an upside cost controlled P it could be Rodon back to MKE. Stuff is great if he could just get his control down a bit and stay healthy. I think Santana should have more value than Rodon though so more would have to come back to MKE so I don't know where you go after that since Sox shouldn't be giving up prospects. Maybe also swap Thames for Abreu and then have us kick in a P prospect? Something of that nature. You could then turn around and flip Thames and Santana for more prospects? Well, I certainly wouldn't be willing to move Rodon for Santana straight up. I really don't see Rodon getting an extension from the Sox, so I'm not necessarily against moving him at some point, but his value is very low right. The Sox would be selling low on a hurt Rodon and buying high on Santana. I would rather roll the dice on Rodon just being healthy enough to either be useful, or to net more in a trade. Would be willing to lose a couple of pitching prospects not named Kopech for a move though. That's logical. Like I said, just spitballing and yea I could see most Sox fans and management thinking the exact same on Rodon. You know the stuff is in there, even in a rebuild right now if he can put together a full year next year then you could trade him a haul next offseason since he's likely not to be there the next time the Sox are trying to win. Something likely doesn't work on these teams as I bet there'd be a disconnect based on your view on Rodon and what MKE thinks Santana is worth.

    Shaw and Thames both have drastic vs LHP splits. Have to think they know this and will split them. That's what hurt of going the route that ends with Shaw at 4 in a non Santana lineup. Get Braun in between them because he murders lefties, same logic they used last year with Thames batting 2nd.

    If Braun goes to 1B and Thames is traded instead of Santana that's about 4.5 mil saved that you can put to a FA pitcher. Sure, Thames isn't going to get near the return of Santana but you'll get something.

    Another thing to note with 1B talk is that if Walker is signed he can be the lefty backup for first. So if they do go the Braun route at 1B, if you have Walker you can then more easily trade Thames rather than keeping both he and Jesus. Walker fills in when Braun is out and one of the Sogard/Villar/Perez take 2B

    Guys get aches and pains. It absolutely makes sense to give Yelich and Cain a game or two off per month if they get dinged up, especially the older Cain. Even projection sites figure on the most healthy of players sitting out at least a few games per year. Yes, agreed. Although its great to see a guy push to play every single game, the smart play is timely rest. Target playing about 150 games on the schedule to allow their bodies not to get worn down. Especially Cain and Braun. And with what they just added and likely a quality backup in Phillips. He probably won't feel the need/pressure to play through things now. Also, helped by the 10 day DL instead of 15, so it's easier to pop on it for minor things. Clearly Braun should have hit the DL late last year but felt he had to play through it, this year with what they just added it should be easier to sit. And to what brew4u just said, all the nagging on BRaun but Cain missed 60 games in 2016.

    because everybody takes a few days off just to stay fresh or give a minor injury a day to recover. Like a bruise from a HBP, etc.

    I think they'll try to find a way to not have Shaw and Thames back to back. How about: Yelich Cain Shaw Braun Thames/Jesus Pina Arcia 2B Variable is 2B, if Villar rebounds you'd want him back at leadoff and then you adjust. Or if Sogard is like he was last year racking up a 370 obp you can put him leadoff. Or if you bring Walker back that's a bat you want up there. All three options are basically lefties so it gets tough not to have b2b lefites so... 2B Yelich Braun Shaw Cain Thames Pina Arcia

    Right, he was just your insurance piece type guy to eat innings. We're in a different mode and if you bring in another legit starter your chances of needing him are drastically reduced. You basically have Suter for free to do the same thing
