  1. Challenge would slow an already slow game down. The ump can simply have a buzzer on his arm that call ball or strike. Something like that since you can't have him with his head down in a IPAD. It's intant, consistent, with no delay. And the ump doesn't lose his job so IDK what the union can complain about. He still has to be there for foul tips, plate calls, check swings, etc.
  2. Game by game you can probably find ones that favor one team or the other. But big pic over the whole year it balances out. That said, the increased use of the technology is just showing it so much more clearly and generally backing up the eye test of us watching on TV that these calls are bad. The technology is there, no reason not to go to it and eliminate the variable. Been fighting back all game and all year. Need to do it again here. ETA: Great point by Jericho, players are now taking that close call so much more now than in the past. And in a split second decision it's not an easy call to make
  3. Simple base hits with 2 ouTs and RISP are so important. Likely to be the difference in this game
  4. I've thought he umps have been wildly inaccurate. Not necessarily against us or anything, just in general not good
  5. Totally agree. Just had a day off and another tomorrow. If we weren't contending, then whatever just keep healthy. But in this situation you have to push the envelope a bit. Or if he'd had a few bad games in a row or something, give a day to clear his head. He's been on fire and now will have only played one game in 4 days. Hope he stays hot on Friday. Maybe they'll make up for it by having him play Sunday even without a day off next Monday.
  6. Plus Sky Sox are like the worst location to play in so it's not like they can get mad at the Brewers and kick them out, since no one else wants to be there
  7. I guess I don't know much of how relationships work between AAA orgs and MLB. But I would think if in contention that MKE wouldn't care at all about the AAA playoffs and Phillips would clearly prefer to be in the bigs. They essentially helped them out a ton already by leaving Brinson/Phillips down there so much.
  8. Difference is that Stanton has always been hurt, granted some kind of fluky but he's really only played one full season since his 2nd year and that was only 145 games so likely hurt a bit there too. This year though he's showing what he can do if healthy. The contract is also tricky because he can opt out after 2020, which he would do if healthy and doing well. So, if you trade for him and it works out you're either losing him or having to add even more onto the contract that he's already owed. Or if he's constantly hurt, he'll opt in and you'll be on the hook for 35ish mil per year until he's 38ish. Very tricky one to work out and probably only leaves a few teams as options that can handle that financial risk. But if I had to guess, it would probably be along the lines of one strong prospect and another one or two lower level guys as to what a team would be willing to give while also taking that risk. And I think Miami would just hold off right now on that deal rather than the bad pub that would come with trading him. I'd be surprised if someone was willing to give a truckload ala the Arcia, Hader, Brinson, Woodruff package mentioned above and take on full financial responsibility. Once again, you're left with BOS and NYY as the most likely options due to having the DH in their back pocket for later years. Dodgers are going to clear a lot of salary soon but don't have DH and I'm pretty sure Kershaw has an opt out coming soon, possibly after 2018, where he'll locking 35-40 mil until he's like 38.
  9. All that would be left would be any other BP help and possibly a lefty CF? 2 weeks or less away from a redhot Phillips being up in CF and they've already made a few BP moves so I'd think not, but I'm sure he's doing his due diligence. I'd think he's not in pursuit of SP with Anderson back now.
  10. In the games leading up to this decision he was 7/17, plus 2 walks. 411 BA and 473 OBP. It was as simple as trying to ride a hot hand and being lefty. I don't see the need to make a big deal of it.
  11. I'd agree overall, especially just thinking LF. CF is a lot more difficult.
  12. Villar basically started hitting right as Walker was aquired, kind of funny how it worked out. Now they likely just don't want to sit him and have that be the reason it break his rhythm so they got creative. That's my best guess anyway
  13. Very surprising, I guess he's been hot lately and trying to ride it. Hopefully the work has been going on behind the scenes for it.
  14. I never really thought of it before we got him of course, but I just can't believe Walker gets the numbers being thrown around here. Who knows I guess, but I can't see 3/45 for him. I guess I'm just guessing that he's a lot cheaper than the numbers being thrown here, therefor a much better chance of coming back.
  15. Yea I would've thought that the window when trading Stanton made sense was when the team was still trying to be sold. Now that it's done I don't see the urgency. Their team isn't half bad and can hang in a wild card race next year.
  16. If the Reds don't show some signs of life in the next year or two my guess has been they'd move him to an AL team who'd be more comfortable taking on those back years due to the DH. Obviously the Yankees are the obvious choice since they have unlimited money, but of course the Sox could do it as well and both have holes at at least one of DH/1B. Tor is an option too in future years with the Canada ties. Yanks obviously have the plan of going nuts for Harper and Machado and I'd say it's fair to guess the'll get one. They could add Votto at the same time and completely go all-in. From the Brewers perspective, I don't think what you're suggesting is a terrible idea but I just can't see the smallest market in the league taking on this kind of financial risk. I'm sure this would be an automatic No Go without the Reds chipping in a significant amount of money which would end the discussions.
  17. Overall what Bill Hall Star said is why I think they'll bring him back, assuming he finishes ok here and doesn't fall off a cliff. Though I'd expect Davies to be firmly in the rotation and one of Hader/Woodruff in AAA to start the year to keep their innings limited. Then when someone inevitably gets hurt (or flops), they're the replacement. Could go either way on Garza though, I'm not going to get too worked up regardless which way they go.
  18. And Braun's been doing that with bad luck. He's been smoking the ball, that average should actually be even higher without some of those great hits that ended up as outs.
  19. I'm shocked that Drake is still on the team every time he comes in the game. Enough is enough.
  20. Yea that's funny. This board has generally picked on MA for being 'win now' for longer than they should've been. Now bashing him fro not being 'win now' before we should. Heck there was that thread on the main board about the fight between MA/DS because MA would want to go for it so bad. One month later after the team is doing poorly (basically proving them right not to go for it) and now MA is cheap and won't go for it. Cmon yall, chill on the overreactions.
  21. sogard has one minor league option remaining, but he has more than five years of mlb service time (he did entering 2017 spring training). if the brewers tried to option sogard, he'd have the right to refuse the assignment (voiding the rest of his contract) and select free agency. given how close it is to september roster expansion, sogard would be foolish to refuse the optional assignment. There ya go, this seems like an option. Maybe catch lightning in the bottle with dejesus. And you can sell it to Sogard as a way to go down and get right again, maybe he'll start clicking like he was before when they brought him up. Then maybe can get some ok play out of him in September or whenever he gets back up.
  22. Craiger as the player/manager? We need some scrappiness.
  23. Hey I'd give it a shot, try anything at this point. I assume Sogard can't be optioned so if you think he's done, let him go and roll the dice on Dejesus then and hope you can get a Sogard lite hot streak from him.
  24. Yea it sure seems the magic has worn off Sogard. After what he did before injury you couldn't not give him another crack at it. So kind of the only hope now is to roll with Villar and hope to catch a hot streak. If Shaw is back you can use Perez vs lefties at 2B since that's where Villar seems most lost right now.
