  1. Right, of course I agree. However, in the offseason there is time for the trading team to work out his contract extension before the trade is official. That's not the case now. More teams can get involved in the offseason too and would give him the spring to learn the pitchers. What I'm saying is his value seems much lower than we expect already, so can it really get much lower at this point? and if so, then maybe he's just worth more in keeping than in trading if no one will pay up. I still fully expect something to happen though
  2. If you're getting almost as much for relievers than you are for the #2 catcher in the world, then maybe just trade all three relievers and worrying about Lucroy in the offseason isn't the worst move? Maybe even just give him a reasonable extension if no one will give what he's worth.
  3. So that twitter account is mocking them intenially right? Just wanted to make sure because I honestly wouldn't put it past their fans to be like that
  4. Or maybe, you know, prospects don't always pan out for any number of reasons. If you have two chances are one will work out, if both do then you have a good problem on your hands. And of course anyone can see the chance of Nottingham needing to move of C, so it would be a good hedge. Doesn't mean he was a bad guy to get or that it was bad trade then, it was for Khris Davis, what can you expect. We've also traded for and drafted lots of OFs, so getting possibly two more from Cleveland would mean all those guys are bumbs? Everyone needs to relax, this is the rebuilding process we all said we wanted.
  5. and this happened too, I'll now be a Cashner fan for the rest of his career. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/after-stanton-gets-plunked-andrew-cashner-mocks-the-cardinal-way/
  6. Well it's fair to say anyone who has missed 4 straight games without being allowed to pinch hit could hit the DL at any point. I mean, they're trotting Wilkerson out there with risp scoring instead, never a good sign. Once or twice it was 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and still didn't use Braun, knowing there's a 50% chance he'd get walked anyway.
  7. Check out the schedule coming up. SD, AZ, Atl, Cin for next 13 games. Only 9 under right now and 9 out of wild card. Go 10-3 in those and they're only 2 under. Maybe we're looking at this all wrong and we should be buyers? Arcia for Sale?
  8. Not sure why we'd target Naquin either. With Braun and Santana seemingly set at two of the spots and several OFs coming up. Of course we have no idea if they'll pan out but seems like MLB ready OF should be low on our list. And all indications are no plans on moving Braun to 1B. As someone else said this would seem like a Melvin type move to get ML talent back to try and convince the fans we're still going for it. Also, one of Cleveland's stated weaknesses is OF depth especially with Brantley out. I don't get why they would move him at a time they're going for it. My guess is still on Cleveland but I think it will be all prospects.
  9. Right, so you can find excuses why it made sense. You can do the same thing for Lucroy and say Cle. Cleveland, has the lowest attendance in baseball so should be desperate to put a charge in it and really get going, get the fans involved, C position is batting like .111 for them. Also, haven't won a WS in forever, rest of central is weak right now. Lucroy, #2 catcher in baseball cost controlled for 1.5 years (good for small market) and good chance he'd be ok with an extension there. Throw in one of our two top level relievers who are also cost controlled for several more years and you have a long term fit. But yea, we shouldn't expect much back...
  10. Well cubs just gave a guy ranked in the mid 20s, and several more for 30ish innings of a pitcher. Wouldn't 1.5 years of Luc and + a couple years of Smith seem to warrant more? I don't know, I just see all these other teams getting these highly ranked prospects for much less (not saying Chapman sucks) and everyone goes 'holy cow, what an overpay' type reactions. But when it comes to our guy who is the #2 catcher in baseball controlled for 1.5 years at almost no cost and we're told he doesn't warrant anything.
  11. I'm in a keeper league where you can keep two players each year. Players have to have been drafter 12th round or later or were FA when acquired and you can only keep two years. It's a H2H category league. Most weeks I win almost all pitching categories but am weak on offense, especially in the power categories. A guy with no shot at the playoffs this year posted today that he'd trade his best players and looking at keepers in return. I've been sitting Julio Urias from LAD since May on the plans of using as a keeper. Most here know he's the top pitching prospect in the game, likely to get full time run next year in the rotation for a good team in the NL and in a pitchers park. So I think a great keeper. But at this point I'm tied for the best record in the league so in a spot to go for the win. Would you give up 2 years of Urias for 2 months of Rizzo to try and ice a win this year? I'm no fantasy guru and it's my first year in this league(rest of league has been in it for 5+ years and I took over a team). I feel like I have a good shot at winning it anyway or at least top 3 finish to make a financial profit on the year so not sure it's worth it. So far I've made a lower offer for Beltran but not sure on this
  12. I don't think any team would hesitate to claim out of fear that we'll let him go and they'll be "saddled" with that contract. I think most would say, why not if they give him to us we'll take him. Either way, they know we'd just pull him back anyway.
  13. Haven't seen it anywhere, but any idea on when Santana is expected back? I agree with the above. Kirk had his shot and was ok for a while but he's nothing. Same with Flores really. Let Broxton or anyone with a possible future have an audition for a month.
  14. To repeat again, Plumlee wasn't an unrestricted FA in an open market. He was an RFA after most teams have filled their cap space already and the ones who haven't already have plenty of Cs. Overall I have no beef with the salary increases, it's capitalism at it's finest. Just seems like a horrible negotiation by the team based on the info we the public know.
  15. ON WSSP they said that teams were allegedly trying to clear contracts to make room for Plumlee, who knows how accurate that is. The market probably set him up for this type of contract, but there was no news on him visiting other teams or other teams interested in him. I believe that was based off a David Aldridge tweet from almost two weeks ago. That's classic agent maneuvering leaking stuff to reporters to drum up interest. It's also very very difficult for a team to pull that off for restricted FA, because the other team can just match and then you're out that trade anyway. They have to have the cap space just to sign the offer sheet, can't have it as a contingent type thing. But really, just scroll through teams and look at their C depth, very few would have a need. Then throw in who can feasibly have the financial space to actual sign him and there isn't a lot of options left. Again, I actually like Plumlee but this just seems like a horrible negotiation to me, never know when you're going to need 3-5 extra in cap space a couple years from now to add a piece when we're actually competing for a title.
  16. The difference between Plumlee and all those contracts you mentioned is that he was restricted and it's now 3 weeks later so all the teams have blown their wad and don't have space left, those teams had to worry about other teams competing with their contracts. Plumlee had no negotiating power and still dominated our front office in the negotiation. I just can't believe they couldn't have gotten this done for 4ish less per year on a 3 yr deal, maybe a team option for year 4.
  17. Yea I hope what I said about Garnett didn't come off as me thinking he should be that good. It's what i think he wants to be based on his body and what seems to thinks his skills are. Personally I think he should focus on being a PnR rim protector who can hit a pick and pop when needed. Just focus on that and kind of being a rich man's Larry Sanders. I agree the Plumlee deal is absurd for a guy who spends half last season as a DNP-CD. Yes he fits better than the other two guys but I think only 4-5 teams even have the capability to sign him right now and of those only the Nets made any sense. They couldn't have had a 3/27 offer on the table and said take this or come back to us with an offer sheet? I actually do like Plumlee but I feel like they need to be more shrewd with their space as 2-3 years down the line they might need to make some other tweaks, and it's easier with every few millions extra in cap space they can find.
  18. Another example often lauded as better than our "go for it" trades mentality is the Rays. And it looks like they're basically at the same spot we are now.
  19. Yea of course it could be worse. But think they've ground away for 5 yrs making nothing, hover on the bench in the bigs for a couple years making a couple hundred grand each year. Then either back to grinding away or getting a real job since that's not enough to retire on. Though usually it's still a coaching job or something related to baseball so not exactly a "real" job. Yes, the pension and so forth is nice, but the discussion we're talking here is about time to spend with family. Basically that guy has all the negative side of it, but not the positive side of retiring early and while in the minors likely is working in the offseason or playing winter league somehow to make some extra money so he doesn't get the 5 months off either.
  20. That's all true, but the trade-off is 5 months off and being retired at 35ish. The people I'd be more sympathetic to are the minor league grinders or 24th man on the roster not really getting the big financial perks or the financial stability to retire early. Those guys will still have to work when they're done and ground away for years barely making livable wages.
  21. I get that, point is they have more free time than the average joe, by far and it's not even close.
  22. I'd love to see a baseball documentary about the difficulties of raising a family as an MLB player. While no one will shed a tear because MLB players can take care of their family financially, it is certainly a difficult way of life to spent time of away from your very young children. Especially a first child, like Ryan's one-year old daughter. It very rarely causes players to walk away from the game, however. (especially players with fat contracts) Disney made the documentary already. It's titled: The Rookie. Wouldn't really interest me. They only work for 7 months then have 5 months completely to themselves and to be with their family. Those 5 months without a job will allow them more time than the joe schmo who works year round and maybe sees their kids for a couple hours each night before bed. Also, you can easily have your family live in the home team city so you're only really gone for a week or so at a time, especially when they're not school age yet. When school age they can be in your home team city for the couple summer months at least. Moreover, you retire when you're 35, free to spend as much time as possible with them. Much more than the normal guy who works his whole life. Sorry, I don't feel bad at all.
  23. It still helps, an American league team should definitely factor it in. Health is his biggest issue and DH will greatly reduce the risk, but of course impossible to eliminate it.
  24. Not sure on the stealing 3rd question just posed but Counsel was very clearly POd yesterday at the pickoff at 1B when it was 1st and 3rd 1out with Braun at the plate in a tied game. Counsel is usually expressionless but i could see some anger in him there.
