  1. Quick google found this about Mallards attendance in recent years. Just over 6000 a couple years back. http://host.madison.com/ct/news/local/writers/todd-milewski/mallards-again-dominate-summer-collegiate-baseball-attendance-rankings/article_4d4684f4-223b-11e4-a1f2-0019bb2963f4.html Also, I was at Appleton last week and I think it was 5K on Friday and 6 on Saturday. And Appleton just bought part ownership in a new Northwoods team in FDL, so they must not be too worried about attendance being killed by it.
  2. True, good point. Does anyone want to attend a baseball game when it's 110 degrees consistently in the summer? Minor leagues can't pay for roofs. Obviously I have no idea on the attendance figures out there. I'd guess the mountain ones are normal but you'd think desert locations take a hit because of this.
  3. Maybe the Brewers/Madison can start a trend since it seems no one wants to play in the mountains and desert. Start getting more and more in the midwest and central regions. Start moving a bunch of those teams this way.
  4. I think the bigger issue would be that they'd be quite a bit further away from the other AAA teams. I don't think proximity to MKE would be an issue at all, I agree it would actually be a positive. Mallards do fairly well here and I think they can support a team. When I looked into it a few weeks ago I ruled it out as a possibility based on the other AAA teams though. not really if they played in the IL, there is already a division of Columbus, Toledo, Indy, and Lousville. Also Iowa has been fine in the PCL even though there are many teams on the west coast. I didn't notice Iowa played in the PCL so I guess it's not a fore sure deal breaker. But what you said on those other teams is kind of what I was getting at, those teams are all clustered within a few hours of each other, Madison is 8 hours away from them with the closest being Indy at 6 hours.
  5. What is a woeful lack of LH bats and why that's a concern? Are teams going to skip left-handers starts vs. us? Are we going to be susceptible to RH pitchers without good change-ups? Not trying to be snarky, I just don't see these as being limiting concerns. In 2012, we really only had Aoki and still led the league in runs scored. And really at this point of re-build, who cares? We're not trying to win in the next two years anyway. Also, Villar being a switch helps a bit. Many 2b, SS, 3B are obviously RH so having one switch is bit of a leg up on most. Basically I just think this would be something to worry about when you're good, not during a rebuild.

  7. They all play the same game on jacking your rate after a certain period. I'm not totally familiar with how they'll be transmitting the internet now that they're bundled? So, if it's also coming by satellite when it rains your internet would be going out as well or will internet be done another way? I don't think I've seen anyone mention that yet, could be big for people working from home.
  8. Exactly, I have next week as last of regular season with playoffs locked but still battling for first round bye. I decided to grab him yesterday but not play him in order to give him another week to see what happens. If he crashes back I just won't play him, but I figured if he did well someone else would grab him by the weekend. My issue is that I basically have one spot that just isn't good in my lineup. It's a 12 team league and has two utilities, so we're digging at the bottom of the barrel. If I get the bye I'll basically have 3 more weeks before I need him, if he's still doing well by then I think I can trust him in the playoffs since he'll have a much larger sample size. We'll see...
  9. I actually just put that question in the Fantasy Baseball thread then saw this. How confident are you guys he maintains high quality play the next 5 weeks? I could use an upgrade at one spot but don't need SBs. Still, he's been like top 15 in the whole league the last month-ish so still better than the blah guys I've been playing in my last slot like a Gardner, Mauer, etc.
  10. You guys think Broxton will maintain something close to this and worth riding for the stretch? I could use an upgrade but I don't need SBs because I have Dee Gordon and others, so Broxton's value is a little lower for me but still thinking about doing it.
  11. I can't believe this thread is going on. The team has greatly overachieved as it was pegged to be the worst team in the league and to lose 100 games. With a tougher schedule coming and the deadline trades they still might get close but aren't really near that pace now and only 8th worst. The team has been greatly entertaining to watch and for the most competitive. The team and Craig knew this year and next were rebuilds and the team was built knowing it would lose. Can't then blame the team for losing, especially when it's won way more than expected. I agree the only thing going against him is that he wasn't hired by Stearns. But what should he do, fire him and then hire a new guy only to fire him next year when they lose 100 games. That's not the way to build a winning organization. To me the only criticisms would be too much swinging 3-0 and the reckless outs on the bases have persisted. Everyone should love the increase in quality ABs and patience at the plate. Huge change from previous coaches.
  12. So maybe they're considering him a very low bust chance (due to D) and rating him that high on account of it. Whereas other guys have higher ceilings due to offense but much better chance of busting because hitting doesn't as easily translate to the majors. It's the nature of the rating systems and is all subjective. I don't see anything to get worked up on, maybe you can find a list that only factors in offensive ability. We all agree that we still need some high end hitters to make it for us and chances are Arcia won't be a middle of the order of the bat. But I also don't blame the list makers for putting a guy they figure who is almost a lock to play 10ish years in the majors based on his D that high on their lists considering how often guys up there completely flop.
  13. I was just thinking the other day how well Madison does with the Mallards and how it would be nice to get out of CS and put a team there. Looking at the AAA leagues though I just don't see how it's possible since they're not really close to the other teams. Would have to be an A ball team and from what I can gather the Rattlers do things just fine as well. they need a way out of CS, but nothing seems too likely at this point.
  14. It's different because he hasn't played in 10+ years and is now 29. Drafting an athlete at 21/22 is different than at 29 when his "athleticism" is going to start declining. If somehow he can hit, good for him, but I seriously doubt he can hit anywhere close to 200 at the big league level right now.
  15. Well I would assume their artist's rendition didn't quite line-up with the product when it showed up from the factory. My guess is something innocently got screwed up in production
  16. Obviously I don't think Prince is a HOFer. But it's interesting to think about how close he would be, he's at 319 HRs, if he hadn't the first neck injury and missed a year that's 350, this years would be 380-390. Tack on just 3-4 more years of mediocre play and he's in the neighborhood of 500 HRs without any steroid ties (and very unlikely with his shape) and a respectable avg/obp to go with it. Specific to Brewers, I don't think I would retire either. But on the other hand, our weak history of a franchise he's probably top 5-6 players we've ever had with a strong argument as #4 after Yount,Molitor, Braun. Braun will be an interesting debate down the line if he plays out his contract here. Very good chance at legit HOF if not for PEDs and will be statistically the best or 2nd best player in franchise history. But the HOF standard mentioned before won't be there.
  17. Think they retire his number? I'd think not and he's probably just a couple years more of time with us to merit it. But with some losing seasons coming I could see them doing it for some positive vibes. 3rd in HRs and 7th in RBIs and was key cog in getting the team out of the 15-20 year gutter.
  18. I still don't believe that missing out on a half season of catching would hurt his value at all. If anything it should help him having less wear and tare having not just caught 140+ games, his offensive numbers would go up since he's playing more often, he adds "versatility" to his resume, and he would still be a top flight catcher. I've tried to explain that to people too who repeated the "wouldn't guarantee him a starting spot". Cmon, he's the second best C in the world. Gomes isn't good. It's just that Gomes is under contract and Napoli isn't so a lot of PT could have been at 1B/DH, he'd be starting though. I think the biggest issue is that with Gomes contract they might not have interest in signing him long term. So he'd be playing out until next offseason with no extension and/or deal with getting traded again in the offseason or at the next deadline. He likely wanted to get somewhere where he'd be for several years and get his extension locked in asap to not risk injury.
  19. I think Ryan Dempster or some similar pitcher left their last season of like 15 mil on the table to retire. I'd think LaRoche did it this year too for the White Sox.
  20. I agree with Jericho, it's not really his fault ESPN is obsessed with him. Didn't mean for mine to come off as hating on him. Just saying baseball is the hardest sport to get anywhere and impossible for 29 yr old to all of a sudden pick it up. I just think his clearest best path in sports is to be a college football coach and I think he'd be good at it. If that doesn't click just go back to broadcasting. But if he just wants to play A ball for a few years for the fun of it, good for him, just sucks that espn will spend half their day covering it.
  21. If he's forced to retire for medical reasons he should still get paid from the way I understand things. The team would have insurance on this though, so it would be the insurance company out the money, not the team. I'm sure more info will come out though and I could totally be wrong.
  22. I was just going to mention the contract extension as I didn't think it was mentioned. From what we were told he tried for an extension here and the team wasn't interested. I'm sure he'd have been fine being here for a rebuild if he had 60mil in the bank. But he wouldn't want to play in it for next to nothing when he could be elsewhere working out an extension with the new team (which I'm sure is happening now), perfectly understandable.
  23. Why can't he just go into coaching football already if he wants his competitive juices flowing? I'm sure he can start as a lower level assistant for almost anyone and likely move up to QB Coach and OC before long. This is just stupid and a publicity stunt. That or of course just stick with doing TV for ESPN/SEC, he's actually good at it.
  24. What are yall arguing about here? Broxton is playing almost every game at this point.
  25. Fans shrug their shoulders and move on when players/coaches give cliched bs non-answer. Fans get mad when guys give real honest forthright answers. Gee, I wonder why guys avoid saying anything, all the media really wants to do is spin it into controversy for clicks.
