  1. Yea that's why I'm not too worked up about that possible hole. I mean, they're not winning it next year anyway. We'll know much more after this season regarding Jabari and how to build the team. We'll know much more on how Giannis is going to progress. Better to stand pat than to make a mistake.
  2. Exactly right Plush. That is the biggest area it would be affecting, he can't use to recover his body and get over the nagging things he has. The thumb is probably irrelevant to that being a nerve thing. But all the other little stuff he's constantly dinged up with, definitely. That's one of the reasons I'd prefer them to lighten up a bit and let them use more things, I'd rather see the best guys playing than having to sit out for rest or miss a game or two extra when dealing with some minor muscle injury. The stuff these guys were doing aren't the meathead get jacked up stuff like the late 90s early 00s.
  3. No it's not really his story. It's when he failed the test. I don't really see it as possible that he continued after that failed test. But if your hatred allows you to believe it, go ahead. It's just bad all the way around, we'll never know what he'd have been like without the the thumb problem.
  4. Very tough to have a competent offense with two bigs like that on the floor at once when the only good outside shooter on the floor is Middleton
  5. But his production didn't drop until the thumb. Presumably he hasn't used anything close to illegal since the end of 2011. 2012 was his best season, without Fielder behind him. 2013 he was doing the same thing until the injury. The correlation would line up with the thumb, not when he likely quit using PEDs. Also, many people would argue defensive shifts are the biggest reason for the offensive decline than the PEDs. Plenty of the guys that have been suspended continued to hit just fine after they came back. I haven't read a ton about the thumb thing but my understanding is that simple break would be much better than this nerve problem. I think they only saw it one other player before (for some reason I want to say Victorino?) and had no idea how to treat it in the offseason of his suspension leading into 2014 season, which ruined him last year. then this year they tried the surgery and you can tell it's helped. he at least keeps his top hand on the bat this year, while he couldn't last year. Hindsight they should have tried this surgery right after the suspension, but I'm remembering something about this procedure not having been created at that point yet?
  6. Well I'd say the 5 is set with Monroe and Henson. And those two should rarely play together other than certain matchups, like Memphis/Chicago. Plumlee's fine as an emergency or injury fill in at the end of the bench. True 4 is the only hole on the roster, they have plenty of stretch types in Giannis/Parker, even Middleon in some situations. But not competent guy in between a stretch 4 and a C (henson/Monroe). I would've have liked to see them take a flier on Perry Jones who ended up in Boston, someone like that who big enough to cover 4 but also can operate outside of the paint in some degree. I would expect a lot of Giannis covering 4s this year. But really they're going to be rolling a switch everything system so that's why I don't think they've emphasized it, that or they have confidence in JOB. Though I think they should have added something with Jabari likely having some restrictions at least early this season.
  7. Yea definitely not in the area but they have good food so you could start your day there and then go down to the Wrigleyville area. They've had breakfast some days but not others. With a brewers/cubs game they might have some activity going on for WI people too. If you've never been down there though, nothing wrong with just walking around and going into one that has a lot of people. Chances are the food will be good and it'll be fun.
  8. Yea we'll never know what would have happened without the thumb problem. Add in the overall dropoff of offense all over with the injury and PEDs. I'm in the camp that PEDs aren't some magical stat producing potion anymore so my guess would be that he would have continued killing it but with a slow dropoff due to age and decline in offense overall.
  9. Any of the bars in the area are good. There is a Wisconsin bar on Clark called Deuces with a good outdoor area. Personally I like the irish dive bar next to it called Irish Oak but if you want to be outside Deuces would be good. The best Wisconsin bar down there is called Will's Northwoods Inn, completely WI themed and I would think tomorrow they would have some kind of activity going on. It's walkable to Wrigley but not really in Wrigleyville.
  10. Braun's thumb started in 2013 before the suspension. If I recall he went on the DL at one point that year for it then came back and it wasn't really fixed so they thought he was going to miss a lot more time anyway and the team was out of it, so he just took the suspension to get it over with rather than arguing for a few more weeks like everyone else did. His drop-off correlates right with the thumb, he'll never be the same. We should just hope he maintains at least similar to this season and then the contract won't be a major problem.
  11. [sarcasm]Trade Braun back to TX, get the gang back together[/sarcasm]
  12. He should have. Forgetting all the PED stuff I wonder what he'd be doing without the thumb problem, we'll never know because he'll probably never be fully healed from it. Best year was in 2012 and was again in 2013 until the injury hit him, never been the same since. Who knows what portion is on account of thumb and what on not being able to use any extra supplements to stay fresh, recover, etc. Seems to me the correlation is more on the thumb than not being able to use PEDs. I think to a certain extent pitchers have figured out how to minimize him to by just pounding him low and outside (I don't know why they don't do this to every major hitter and just force them to go oppo), which he really helped by chasing the slider way too much last year and up until May this year.
  13. Right, if that is the case. I'd say this biggest problem would be the two lost years in 2013 and 2014 in his prime than the late years. Well I guess they didn't have to pay him in 2013 but that was one of the big years we were supposed to get in return for the backend. And 2014 was an injury, it happens.
  14. Yea it's considered more of a hitters but it's not drastic like Cincy or some others. Have to think some offensive numbers are a tad inflated due to us having one of the best offenses from what 07-12. I've noticed that trend towards pitcher parks somehow winning more often and couldn't really think of a reason other than those teams then tend to really emphasize pitching, D, and guys that can just get hits rather than homers. And that stuff is probably a good thing. I think a big park would create a little less variance because some routine fly ball isn't going out of the park when it shouldn't.
  15. I hope Segura fired his agent who advised him to turn down that contract. As Gob would say, "I've made a huge mistake"
  16. http://www.athleticsnation.com/2015/8/9/9123185/why-ryan-braun-could-be-a-shrewd-off-season-trade-target Stumbled across this today. Seems some still think he's a good player. Not sure the line of thinking in the article as it is basically saying he'd be a good guy to get for a team looking to compete in 2017 like Oakland, which would apply to MKE too.
  17. Really think they're rolling young next year in the staff. No allusions of competing next year. Yea maybe they'll grab one of these old guys just for depth and to eat innings. But don't expect and 3 or 4 years 10+ mil per year deals. If I'm a competitive team looking for a cheap 5th starter I'd roll with Fister, think he has big bounceback potential next year. Someone like Pittsburgh maybe.
  18. I don't think every move they've made has been that. And even if true that doesn't mean they would only do that in the future, every situation is different. What we could get back would depend on how well Braun plays. If it's just salary dump then yea they won't give anything, if Braun is good and we take a bad contract back with us then they should give something. A lot of the elements are there: unlimited budget, contract we can take back, location he will go, need in LF, good farm system. Personally I'm fine keeping him and I really don't think the Brewers are looking to move him but if they did this would be my first call. My guess is they'll listen when someone calls but they're not pursuing a trade of him.
  19. Very true. I noticed something at the Brewers/Cubs games over the weekend too. Kris Bryant is deservedly getting so much hype and people think he's killing it. 789 OPS, I kept thinking I was missing a number and it was 889 but I wasn't. Braun is at 842 and slugging over 60 points higher.
  20. Yea when I went through I noticed most of the best guys are in RF this year. Harper and Stanton skew those stats a tad. Any RF can play LF but I just counted up all OF when I ran through it. Pederson and Trout are CF and all the rest above BRaun are RF. No LF which is kind of surprising. And the site I was on counted Nelly Cruz at RF though I assume he's been playing a lot of DH.
  21. Pretty sure Cravy started on Sunday as well. I was at MP and they put up the minor league scores on the LF wall and I commented how convenient it is that Cravy was set to start on Sunday just like Lohse.
  22. Either has played ok this year but they've had no problems benching him the last two seasons and have been looking to trade him for a while. If you're paying him 15mil why not pay Braun 20 instead, they don't care about money. Average isn't 8th most HRs and RBIs for OFs in MLB. That's playing on a crap team in the NL and including an atrocious April, from May on he's been very good. If I'm another team I want to see him finish the year the same he's played since May and to finish healthy before I'd pull the trigger. Of course he isn't what he was but he's still way above average in this light hitting era. I wish he was pulling for more HRs but the only pitches he gets are high inside heat and anything low outside. If someone hangs a slider/curve he usually crushes it to left. A big OF in LA could actually be better for him now too that he's not as much of a HR hitter. Though many fans would rip him for say only hitting 22 HRs in LA but his avg and doubles should go up in a bigger OF.
  23. I am happy with where I am so, no, I do not miss the long hours, the working out. You know, it is a full time job and I'm glad that I've moved on." Quote from Derek Jeter. I think all Lucroy means is that it's a grind, every day with almost no days off and all the pressure. I bet most guys agree they just won't say it. I like that Lucroy will be honest instead of cliches, Aaron Rodger is like that too.
  24. Id take Puig but Id flip him later that day for prospects/3 way trade. He is a great talent but everything I have read suggests he is not a rebuild cornerstone player. I had proposed Puig for Braun a couple weeks back after the news of the Dodgers growing sour with him came out. I think that's a good starting point and some other players would need to be involved. No one (outside of St. Louis) would care about any of his antics in Milwaukee. He could also probably be flipped for prospects in a year or two. I don't think it's his antics on the field that is the problem, otherwise he'd be just like Gomez essentially. From what I understand his teammates just can't stand him and he's basically a jerk behind the scenes. Smoke like this usually means there is fire. Lawrie is a good example that we're familiar with, seems like he's ruffled feathers everywhere he's gone.
  25. I wouldn't want anything to do with Puig. If he's good there's no chance he'll stick long term and most importantly there's reports that his teammates can't stand him. It's one thing when someone is cocky and opposing teams seem to dislike (say Bryce Harper) it's another when your teammates don't like you and that it's bad enough that reports are getting out about it.
