  1. [sarcasm]Yes, no good GM has ever been on the losing side of a trade. I think we should re-consider[/sarcasm]
  2. I think Doug Fister would be a good option for the flipping idea. You already have 4 starting spots filled though (counting Garza) so then you wouldn't have the 5th spot for a young guy like Davies. As roderick said though, maybe that's a good thing, gives those guys a few more months in AAA
  3. Agreed, but theoretically we hope to compete in 2017. So if he still looks good might as well keep him. There will likely be no other big salaries on the books so plenty space to pay his contract.
  4. I was just referring to it being generally fair and the team got return on the money that it's not considered a disaster. Whether you want him while re-building is another argument. However, I don't see the money being a huge deterrent in 2018ish as mentioned as all other guys will be arby or pre-arby. I suppose they only guy we might have to be giving a descent payday to by then will be Peralta and that's still up in the air. Financially, it's kind of the perfect time to have a high salary for a declining player really. And as long as he has years comparable to this one he'll be contributing plenty once we're good again. If he has another year or two like 2014 then you have a problem.
  5. Seems like a pretty minor thing really. Would expect him to hit fine again next year. Just seems it's one minor injury thing after another. I don't think they were ever trading him anyway, 3 or 4 more years like this one and the contract is fine. Too bad there isn't something that exists that would help players overcome injuries so they can be on the field playing their best more often.
  6. Yea that's what I've felt all along. Everyone has learned in recent years about the issues with publicly financed stadiums, but in this case the owners did chip in half so I don't see why anyone should be too ticked off and thus making it a generally fair deal from both sides. It's not like we're being fleeced like the Marlins owner did to Miami, and many other examples.
  7. He's had a few bad years sprinkled in, which led to him going to LAD. Then he put together descent stats last year to get a good contract. He also hasn't played a full season since 2012, wouldn't touch him unless he's almost free.
  8. I thought I heard something about him going to First next year? I wouldn't touch him. Guy's like him are prone to checking out once they get paid for the last time, no incentive anymore. I'll be surprised if he ever has another good season.
  9. Sounds like an idea for shots at Milwaukee bars. Some kind of 'bomb' shot for any opposite field homer.
  10. I think the last week or two have been close to ideal. They're in most games and competing (therefore individual players are doing ok) but finding a way to lose usually close games to help in the draft. What you don't want to see is what happened in April, that is just miserable as a fan to watch and would be a sign that almost no one is doing well.
  11. Ya. He always looks like he's on the verge on breaking into tears. Except when he's spitting on umpires. But he spits on them the right way, often times including a chest bump or slight shove. Class all the way
  12. Seems blatantly unfair that guys who were only suspected of using PED's are lumped into the same category as guys who have admitted to it or were directly implicated in the Mitchell Report. And not only that, to then give a pass to guys who failed the test (Ortiz) or admitted it (Pettite) while holding it against people with no evidence like Piazza/Bagwell. The ridiculousness of the hypocrisy in PEDs is one of the biggest reasons I just don't care about it. Jericho, I thought the same thing on that slide. Was expecting them to actually enforce the no block rule there. I'm in fantasy playoffs this week and have the Cubs closer so had a vested interest and was paying attention to it.
  13. Not sure where I read it but it sounds like he did it on purpose. I wouldn't say he was being a punk, he was goading the guy and Weaver took the bait, hurting his team. Kind of like in basketball if you know the other team has a hothead you'll kind of keep poking at him and you know eventually he'll shove you and get a T. This kind of falls in the other topic about gomez and unwritten rules. Seager harmlessly stepped out for whatever reason, just like many do every game. For some reason an old pitcher takes offense to it, Seager chuckles and says [expletive deleted by moderator] this guy and keeps goading him until he gets himself tossed. Then laugh about how stupid the pitcher was for getting worked up about a guy stepping out of the box.
  14. I agree they should get more back than Will Smith for someone with this much control left and at this age, especially if they hold him into next year and he starts out next year like he's finishing this year. There might be a package out there with Lind together that could be strong too. To me though, Lind is the only must trade this offseason, no rush on Davis.
  15. A two pitch pitcher with mediocre control isn't a starter. But if allowed to continue starting and with development maybe he adds a change and then yes he is a starter, when he got put in the pen there was no need to develop a 3rd pitch. he was 22 and he felt they could've tried that path instead, that's all the poster was getting at.
  16. Also keep in mind that Ortiz is a DH, which they use against Edgar Martinez. If you play for the Red Sox though, anything goes I guess. I'd actually give the passes to the guys that were good regardless like Bonds, Arod, etc. Ortiz wasn't very good for several years, then likely started doing something (and back then they were using real steroids) and then got good. Guys like him or Brady Anderson shouldn't. Personally, I don't care who did or didn't, I just mean if you're giving a pass at all I'd give it to the top guys who were good anyway.
  17. David Ortiz hit 500th homer this weekend. I just had PTI on and the question was is he a first ballot HOF, Tony said due to controversy around him he'll be a second ballot. I've long said I think Ortiz and Pudge are going to skate into the hall because for some reason they've been given a pass by the media on PEDs. I also think Pettit gets a pass too and might sneak into the hall, I believe he's already being given a monument thing at Yankee stadium. I find this to make no sense, guys like Bonds, Clemens, Mcguire can't go in due to PEDs but these guys can?
  18. Wacha won the NLCS MVP I think in 2013 as a rookie. Piscotty just came up a month or two back but has been one of the hottest OFs in the league since coming up. After Wacha's performance in the 2013 playoffs everyone expected him to be a star but has been kind of limited by small injuries since
  19. I wouldn't say it was necessarily preparation. Something was sour in the locker room at the end of last year and it carried over, for some reason the team quit on or stopped responding to Roenicke. I haven't really heard any rumor mill /behind the scenese type stuff but something had to happen. Maybe it was just as simple as he was somehow making everyone uptight, or something bigger, who knows.
  20. Yea maybe Braun is only 3 inches taller if his 6'2 is inflated a bit. Besides the point, Braun is noticeably taller and with longer arms and that's what i was saying. Keep in mind in that pic that prince usually had a kind of mini Afro/dreds thing going with his hair so the helmet is gonna sit up.
  21. Pretty much agree with this take. Lind is the one who needs to urgently be moved due to being a FA after next year. No rush on Davis due to the contract situation mentioned. However, he's finishing the year so strong right now it might be safest to trade him in the offseason too.
  22. Too bad we couldn't be spoilers for STL or Chi instead. I really have no beef with Pitt, maybe because we've dominated them for so long, but I just hate STL and to a lesser extent Chicago
  23. Yes, prince is 5'10 at best.
  24. Trading Lind this offseason is like throwing a draft pick in the deal too. Lind should be getting a QO after '16 as long as he's healthy I'd think. You want to offer a 33.5 year old injury prone 1st baseman somewhere around $16mil for one year? That would be really risky to assume they could do that. I can't imagine more than a 2 year deal and what will he need to do to get that? Another stellar season and a clean bill of health...a lot to ask for from Lind. Would Lind even be confident enough to get 2/$25mil somewhere to pass up on the QO? Lind has been very good for us and he was recently with the Jays, but teams probably still view him as a platoon guy with injury problems. That and a player getting well into his 30s. Right, to me it's about that you got a full healthy season from him and he did well. Now's the time to get out. Look at it like gambling, they key is to walk away ahead. Yes, you could push it and hope for more but there's risk and he's injury prone. I don't think the risk of him getting hurt is worth it for what more they could get later, trade him in the offseason.
  25. that's what I mean though, what prince did was kind of the minimum someone can do and still be considered passable. Braun is 5 inches taller and not fat. As long as he can field ground balls at all it should be easy to do that, and with his infield background he should already be better than Prince at fielding the ball. It's just learning how to stretch and just getting comfortable with his responsibilities. If he trains at it and they decide he can't do it, then I guess you look to trade Davis when Phillips is ready. But I'd be really surprised if he can't do it.
