  1. Yea I was surprised by it as well. He seemed to fit right in line with the cardinal way. Gets me thinking though, Yadi retires after 2022. How long until he's manager for them? Maybe a year or two off then comes in as a coach of some kind then manager within 6 years?
  2. Yea I'd generally agree on the arby thing that he shouldn't blame them for the rules. But, it could be combined with how any contract extensions negotiations are going and if we're being shrewd on it, thus essentially forcing him into one year deals. Again, tough to blame MKE for the horrible economic setup of MLB that just doesn't allow them to give him a healthy contract right now. Then add in that it was reported we were listening to offers on him. So I could see how there could be tensions. I think I mentioned it in a game thread. But I saw him on a quick on field talk on MLB network during the day of game 3 and they asked him about going more than 1 inning and he shut it down with no hesitation. Seemed pretty adamant to me. Didn't even throw out a normal nice guy thing like 'barring a situation where it's a must and my team needs me'. Came off pretty cold/blunt to me.
  3. I had Conforto in fantasy and yes he was awful. He was also hurt for a good long stretch early on and never got going. He's probably a good bounce back candidate if he wants a 1-2 yr prove it deal, not unlike what we gave Avi. Feel like we need something a bit more 'for sure' though. He's also a lefty with bad splits vs lefties. With how much we have invested in OF already and Taylor looking at least solid I'm not sure I see it. I suppose if he's cheaper than bring back Avi and DH happens and you start planning on a bunch of Yeli DH(or some transitioning to 1B) days I could seen a path.
  4. As others have said, with the starting P they have they are likely going to be competitors for the next few years. However, with how weak the O is it leads to tons of close low scoring games. Obviously having the best closer is extremely important in those situations so he might be more valuable in our situation than what a closer would normally be valued. As stressful and tough to navigate these games are already, think how much more difficult it would be if you basically didn't know that if you got to the 9th it's over. think they'd have to be overwhelmed and get a ML bat back for him. So probably need to look at contending teams with strong offenses that could afford to give up some hitting. Or due to being strong on O have good guys being blocked.
  5. I do see the appeal for being deep enough that Urias becomes super utility that still gets starter ABs. But with how well he played this year and on D (at 3b) it wouldn't surprise me if they view him as locked in at 3B. If DH were added though obviously they have to find someone legit. Not another soso mediocre Tellez type. Just hope they're willing to dig deep this year on money if a short term (I agree on Rizzo like nate just said) contract for proven guy is there since they know a ton of money drops off the following offseason. Kind of view it as a one year blip similar to the Grandal/Moose year, the key is the right situation has to come up like it did with those guys. I think Rizzo would make a lot of sense, but I also think Boston/NYY are gonna be in on him.
  6. Yup, this is really the only way to look at Yelich right now. He needs to clear his head first, do whatever he can to clean up any lingering health stuff. Then put in whatever work they can to get his swing back to where he can hit the ball in the air. Just be good, dont need to be Barry Bonds again. Just a solid .850 borderline all star type would be a big help to the O while we have this pitching.
  7. Definitely got the short end of the stick on close ball/strikes today. But did the help of the missed call pop out in foul territory. Not CC's best day imo. Several questionable things after having to take out Lauer. Big pic though, the O was awful all series and guy who gave up like 4 runs all year gave a lefty/lefty HR or you'd still be tied.
  8. very surprised they didn't let Woodruff try for one more. But the Hader one inning thing must be real. FYI. I had MLB on in the day yesterday when they kind of just bounce aorund to parks in the day and talk to people. Hader was on and they asked him if he can do 2. He immediately said, 'nope I'm just one now, been that way for two years'
  9. not sure on the double switch. We'd actually need multiple hits before that spot comes up this inning, which is obviously unlikely. Very good chance you wouldn't have needed it, unless they really want two more from him. Plus Woody is a passable hitter
  10. I really don't know what the right decision was but this argument holds less water seeing as how Lauer kinda crapped the bed today. Would Burnes have gotten results as poorly as Lauer if he pitched on short rest? We'll never know. Lauer didn't really do badly. Feel like the only hard hit ball was the leadoff double. Rest were bloopers and weak contact. Then of course the last inning: bloop hit, walk which of course was bad (after all the delays), then a bs hbp guy sticking his arm over the plate. Boom, over. He did not get rocked around.
  11. aaaand Morton struggled all game and didn't get out of the 4th. Have you just not looked at the stats on short rest at all? That move has consistently not worked over the years Then add in that this is even more extreme for Burnes since he hasn't been on normal 4 day rest this season, so it's actually two days early not 1.
  12. Seems like no other choice right for someone to get 2 or possibly 3 out of if he's grooving
  13. Think of the butterfly effect from Cain's hit not getting through yesterday. We get that lead and keep Peralta. Possibly go on to cruise to a win. Houser is fresh today. Say everything else plays out the same today, you can PH Lauer and go to Houser to get you through the 5th/6th
  14. is your expectation for the manager that he can predict if the pitcher next inning is going to get in a bases loaded situation or not. or if they give up a 3 run HR. The guys not a wizard The decision made zero sense especially after what he did yesterday. Lauer was struggling. It was a bad move in real time not hindsight. What happened yestrday changes this. There is no long reliever like we had yesterday and it's an inning earlier. He wanted to get 2 more innings out of him then get into the 1 inning guys. Guy failed. and to act like its counter to yesterday isn't true either. If Cain's hit got through yesterday they wouldn't have pulled Peralta. The hit got through today so he didn't pull him. Don't think he would've anyway since it's an inning earlier and no long reliver like Houser. But bottom line is there is not a clear path to covering 6 innings today. There was a very clear one to get 5 yesterday.
  15. is your expectation for the manager that he can predict if the pitcher next inning is going to get in a bases loaded situation or not. or if they give up a 3 run HR. The guys not a wizard
  16. yea the last review made it clear. the previous ones at least fell into the stupidity of mlb replay margin of error. last angle was clear though
  17. agree. I'd certainly lean towards it hitting the ground and probably overturn. But that's a heck of a lot closer than they think. especially with mlbs ridiculous it has to be blatantly obvious level of standards
  18. I hated pulling Peralta but I think this was different and the right call. After the 2nd run scored it was a no-brainer. No multi inning good relief ready to go like they had with Hauser yesterday. Plus, it's an inning earlier. And as OSS said, much different once a run is in. It's much different than yesterday
  19. Hard to believe were at this point but I'd probably pick Urias as the guy I'd want up most in a run scoring opportunity. I know Wong has been bad this series, but that would probably be my close call as he's just generally gonna give a good AB
  20. Yup, once the pitchers realized he was nothing to fear his walks dried up. Generally speaking, I still think or guess he'll bounce back next year to at least be good again. I'm guessing this back problem was more than they let on. Probably will never touch that Barry Bonds level again though, that stretch was just unreal.
  21. We know your take. But, your characterization is a bit off. Is having a 3.1 ERA typical of the "5th starter" reputation you're trying to push. Then add in that he had a 2.6 ERA the 2nd half of the year which was one of the best in baseball.
  22. FYI, according to bbref Escobar basically hasn't played OF since 2015. Had like 4 games total in 16-17. None since. I'd be curious on the advance stats on Avi's D. But I really do think he's ben solid/good, just had a couple bad errors at bad times that skews perception. But like I said, didn't look anything up. Just gut.
