  1. You need two RBs these days though. Melusi just had a monster game a few weeks ago. They also have some compliment to each other in that one is huge and the other is quicker or more of a scat back. If we actually had a passing offense Melusi would probably be useful in the passing game. And let's not forget Allan has had fumbling issues.
  2. I rewound it. He was out in front of play and runners/tackers rolled up into back of his legs. Looked to me like his foot was pointing off to the side, likely broken ankle, out for year. Hopefully it's not as bad as I think for his sake, but it looked bad. Obviously just one bad angle review with bodies in the way though, so who knows. Big time win vs a top ten opponent, sure everyone will be happy now!!
  3. How would you view trading him as kind of a move to kind of get on the good side or Rodgers to stay? As in, it's not guaranteed but you do it as a kind of selling point or way to kind of kiss up to him. So, no guarantee from Rodgers but you're showing him you're all in on him now. It's probably a minimal help but is that little help worth the risk? IDK, you're probably going to be bad anyway (unless they're really confident Love is legit, personally I thought he looked fine in the small preseason snaps) so if you have to play Teddy Bridgewater for a year until you get a high pick new QB so be it.
  4. I think everyone should whenever possible and fair catch every punt. IT's so rare to get anything big/significant it's not worth it. A huge chunk of kick and punt returns also end up with a penalty. Seems completely not worth the risk to me. Especially now that kickoffs go to the 25. getting past the 30 is very tough then throw in penalty/fumble risk. Punts are different because I get the why not take the 3-6 yds if you can, so I see the debate there but I'd probably be happy not risking fumble and penalty.
  5. I think MLF has actually been great today, with the exception of inside the 5…. Now the poor play calling inside the 5 may be part Rodgers as well…no idea what he is checking in and out of Same, play designs up and down the field have been great. Two possessions inside the 3 have been rough though. . And even on the last one, the calls to get the initial TD that was called back were all good.
  6. Remember 2020 wasn't really that good of a year for Hader too, relatively of course. He then came back and had one of the most dominant seasons a closer can have. So that does help. However, something that hurts is in the last two years since this talk has started we all probably had LAD in our heads as the team that could make a godfather type offer due to desperately needing a closer with Kenley falling off and that being their only weakness combined with them having a loaded team and farm system to deal from. Now, Jansen has fixed himself and they had few others like Treinen step up. So, they're not as desperate.
  7. Generally speaking night games are considered better for home teams in order to have amped up crowds. 11 am games of course being the opposite are considered the worst and more likely to have duller lifeless crowd. Big Noon kickoff on Fox has to go
  8. Positive is the running game looked like what we expect. D of course is still ridiculous. Passing game, still a disaster. Iowa next week should be interesting. Their coming off the L to Purdue then a bye today. So they should be fresh and clear motivated for this big game for them. Plus of course it helps them the game is at 11 am. I'd guess UW starts as 3ish pt favorite and I'd guess a low scoring close slugfest that could go either way. I'd pick Iowa, just can't trust we'll be able to throw the ball if needed.
  9. I didn't know that rule changed until today either. IDK, I guess I'll get used to it but I think I liked the old way better. Maybe move the mandatory 2 pt attempt one round if you want to speed it up a bit. To the Iowa talk. I guess I wouldn't say hate for them. But, they're our primary B1G West competitors the last 10ish years. Plus are good at hoops too so you have that to add in. Similar to MSU rivalry that was building before conf split, roughly equal level football teams and both good at hoops.
  10. [sarcasm]Big road W vs a ranked team. Should end the PC can't win big games talk[/sarcasm]
  11. Yea, and it'll speak to how much they stick to their sustained success Cardinals/Rays style plan vs somewhat of the Melvin 'all in' window type way.
  12. Yea he's the bat they'd need but one would think he has every goal of cashing in big here with a 5-6 year deal and we're not going to do that. He got this opt out in his contract for a reason, don't think it's to take another short deal.
  13. And if not for the anemic offense it might've been less if his hand wasn't forced to pull Peralta. Which then led to not having Houser in the next game. Throw in no Williams/Suter too (though everyone has an injury or two). No reason to think Brewers pitching isn't totally legit and gives them a shot going forward.
  14. Exactly right. The most important thing other than luck is just getting there. Second, is being there while having top SP. Brewers are set up to do both of those for the next few years. Now just need the luck to work out one time. Of course, anything else you can do to increase your %s is good too, I'm not advocating doing nothing to help the O. They already have one other huge advantage in their favor too in Hader.
  15. Haha, true. I'd guess they just re-sign Scherzer. He's seemed to enjoy his time there and I'd guess he'd want to be on the top team like this to try and get one more WS. It could get awkward since Kershaw is a FA too so if they picked Max and let Kershaw go it would be bad optics to your long timer all time great. A few years ago when Kersh was declining I could see them letting go if that continued, but generally speaking he's been able to maintain himself as good P when healthy, even if not at his elite level anymore. So I think he'll take a team friendly deal and stay too. Which leaves you with Walker, Max, Urias, Kershaw as top 4. Bauer as wild card. Dustin May returning mid season. FA market doesn't look too great, Stroman is probably only top level guy unless I missed someone (verlander is old of TJ) and I doubt they pay up for that especially since they'll have to pay Trea Turner or Seger. Maybe go cheaper and keep a guy like Danny Duffy if they liked him when he was there. David Price has one more year left before his money clears.
  16. Right, but I think the point would be that all hitting coaches (or he and his team/assistants) should be doing all of that now along with the old school elements. Not that it's either or, all that stuff should be commonplace now. Top of my head, I think this was a beef NYM had when they fired their hitting coach midseason though, not enough on the analytics/tech side. Don't hold me to that after 5 months. Being that Haines was hired by Stearns/Counsel who completely embrace all this stuff, I'd be surprised if Haines wasn't on board with the modern things.
  17. Yea he's certainly scrambled and gotten desperate. However, I was just thinking how the current state of Dodgers pitching could probably be argued started from the trickle down from having to play the WC game and use Scherzer there. Basically exactly one of the effects the WC game was supposed to have in giving the division winners an advantage. Of course it's hurt more in this situation due to Bauer/Kershaw, but a team having 5 aces or high high level SPs is very rare, having 3 though isn't rare and this is a scenario that could happen from it.
  18. Yea I see how the computers are fooled by our D and SOS. But the O is just so bad, so I don't see it. But, if we were to make this the optimism thread. UW controls their own destiny to win the B1G.
  19. Well, yea I suppose. I was going into that thinking we can't bank on JBJ other than as backup/depth. So Cain/Taylor/Avi as you 'starters' but Yeli and JBJ to fill in for off days and injuries. Due to budget, I suppose they might just have to hope he rebounds though they go with those 4 guys. But I was just saying if they plan a lot of Yeli at DH it might lead to a FA OF (or Avi) being a need as opposed to our focus being on 1B/3B in most discussions here.
  20. I suppose we could hope Huira is back up to help with this issue but ideally Tellez/Vog aren't the ideal platoon. Though I think Rowdy doesn't have bad splits. So a guy like Cooper makes sense. But, so could another old friend in Jesus Aguilar. Spotrac gives an 8 mil arb estimate which I'd guess MIA declines so he'd be a free agent and I really wouldn't expect him to get much (I'd think one year deal for less) in spite of the good year, who knows maybe I'm way off there though. After reading through someone's estimate on our current players arb raises it led me to think it's kind of the worst year to add the DH for us since our O is already so bad and are unlikely to have any money to spend due to increasing so much salary already in arbitration. A guy like Escobar could be good if we know DH is real, but I doubt they can pay him. Another thing I've thought of with Yelich's injuries (and that he's become not good at OF) is they might plan on him being a lot of DH next year to try and get him right. So in such a scenario getting another OF or resigning Avi could make more sense.
  21. Anyone else notice the irony that while demanding we spend more money to be possible/feasible requires previous large money contracts to either not be picked up or for them to retire. Essentially, we need current large value contracts to older players to do us a favor to get out of them, just so we can sign other large money contracts to older players. Add to that, our largest contract on the books is looking horrible right now. And yes, I get that because you signed wrong guys previously doesn't mean you will next time, but this is inherently the risk in signing multi year large contracts and it's very difficult for the smallest market to take such risks.
  22. Man you're missing it. You just said, it if you're stuffed you have to call TO so now they know it's a pass. If you get sacked you're screwed on 3rd down you're screwed, if you run on 3rd and don't get you're screwed. . This was technically the correct route. If you read the article, it also pointed out 3 other times (maybe it was 2) in that game where Lynch was stuffed in the same situations on 3rd and 1/2 that led to punts. Just barreling ahead into the pile when they know that's what they're expecting and have 8 guys there is not the massive lock you're implying. We saw it first hand how many times with McCarthy. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't bash the guy if they just KISS and ran it. Perfectly reasonable to me. But to act like this was one of the worst calls as you guys and many have is just simply incorrect. I only read the one article in order to refresh my memory and it didn't include any statistics on it but I'd be shocked if the math didn't say it was right call.
  23. Did you read the article? Yea the alternative would be to not worry about clock and just score right away after the 1st down run, theeeeen you open it up to "how did you leave Tom Brady 50 seconds(or whatever it was) on the clock you morons!!" If you use your last timeout after 2nd down you can't run the ball because game is over after 3rd down then, so yes you had to pass. Going this route guaranteed them 3 plays instead of risk of only getting 2. It allowed them run/pass on all 3 downs without the D knowing which. No rushed scrambling in between plays either. Then, add in that they had 8 guys piled into the box expecting the classic pile everyone up and run straight forward. Don't get me wrong, I see the alternative route of keep it simple stupid, but to act like it was worst ever like some do is overblown since it follows all the correct game theory aspects. As packers fans, think how often we ripped Mccarthy for piling everyone up and running into the gut and getting stuffed. Think the SEA NFC title game. What made GB so great at it last year was spreading it out. Piling 3 TEs and slamming into a pile of people doesn't work anywhere near this "lock" level of scoring like is implied in this play's discussion.
  24. This is way overblown. First, the clock and time. It was 2nd down with like 25 seconds left and one time out. By running on that down it very much runs the risk of you only being able to run one more play unless you call TO right away, which they would've. But then they would know you're throwing on 3rd down. Second, the personnel and set up on the field pointed to throwing. Problem was RW threw it too high combined with D making a great great play. Good summary I quickly found: https://cacm.acm.org/blogs/blog-cacm/182941-why-the-pass-at-the-end-of-super-bowl-xlix-was-the-right-call/fulltext
  25. Yea I'm really not sure what there is to hate about Atlanta teams and how they do things (putting aside any of the PC) things so I'd probably go for them. I probably go ATL, Hous, LAD, Boston in preference. I also really don't dislike anything about the Dodgers teams itself, it's just the principle of highest paying team and buying a title etc. They got their title last year so I'm fine to put them in the dislike camp now, whereas before I had 'well they do deserve one with how good they've been' type attitude. Dodgers/Astros really does look like a heck of a matchup and could be a very good and entertaining series. Toss in the storyline from the cheating before and all that too.
