  1. 3 way trade in the NBA. Jazz name moves back to New Orleans. Lakers go to Utah. LAL needs to come up with a new one, maybe "Oceaners"--obviously joking on that
  2. Yes it's new in terms of the reputation and tough guy nature of NFL and acting like it could never happen there. But in reality it's common across all sports so it makes sense it at least has some place in NFL too. I suppose there could be a delineation among a difference between paying a coach to lose the game in the moment as opposed to constructing a team knowing it will lose. To lay it out clearer, I can see a difference between fielding a crap team, doing a cap reset year so you know you have less talent, resting players with minor injuries etc to help lose vs intentionally losing the game while playing it (intentionally missing a kick, calling terrible plays on purpose like qb sneaks on 3rd and 9, etc).
  3. Seems like the NFL equivalent of Guardians with a big shoulder shrug meh to it. Also has the issue of easily being shortened to Commie along with having red colors.
  4. Yea it's a bit frustrating in general, especially in basketball with how huge it is there so for tons of teams they're building whole new squads every year. Seems it will happen in FB too but just due to the nature of the size of teams there is still going to need for building and developing a program. Plus, have to try and keep in mind if it wasn't for his coach jumping ship none of this would've happened. We've all kind of accepted it for years from coaches making tons of money already so not too crazy the players can do the same thing
  5. UW failed to foresee the future when they got rid of the Gridiron Club a few years ago, would've been perfect for the current NIL setup. In my day Tucker and Harris were driving cars that 20 year old college kids from their life situations had no business driving. But that was 20 years ago, seemed most of that was way cracked down on UW since then to avoid a scandal. And what ultimately probably led to the disbanding of that club.
  6. Yes they might decline a bit but if they can maneuver Rodger and Adams numbers and put a good 10-12 win team out there you have a chance. TB is likely falling off big time. Rams have a ton of cap issues too. The NFC might finally be opening up to being the weaker side now with Buf/KC/Cin with their young QBs likely strong in the AFC. For much of this frustrating stretch for GB it's been the opposite, Pats and one team to compete with them in the AFC while the NFC would have 5is good high level teams that are even-ish and all tough games. Who knows, maybe GB will actually benefit from not playing in cold if they're not a top seed. It's funny the way sports are sometimes a lesser team like that will find a way to win when the really loaded team this year didn't. Or think how NE won what 6 SBs but their best team actually didn't win one.
  7. Besides the obvious Riley and SoCal aspects clearly in their favor, to me the real killer to this and why I never really got too into it was was we have no WRs besides Dike. Ferguson is gone too. Could've seen a discussion or logic over the last 3ish years when we actually had some decent and athletic WRs on the roster but had no idea how to use them. Or if there was some transfer WR he's bringing with I could've seen it. Who knows, open to be being surprised.
  8. Packers know exactly what the Chiefs side of this in the 2H feels like, haha. We've seen this type of thing too many times. We'll see if Mahomes saves the day in OT after a brutal 2H and brutal goalline possession there. He looks really gun-shy, afraid of making a mistake after that awful pick he threw.
  9. Chiefs were so close to blowing this open. Should've had score before half then get the ball to start 2H. Now it's a game. Really a big blown opportunity, very Packers-esqe in a way. but I'm still confident they'll win this easily. I agree Raiders should've stuck with who they had. If I'm McDaniels after all his previous drama with other jobs, I probably would've just kept with NE and wait for BB to retire.
  10. Good catch with Velasquez. No idea on what contract he'd pull and whether it would be reasonable here. But he really seems like the type this pitching training/coaching could get a hold of and turn into a good piece. As you said, more likely in relief spot, maybe getting 2-3 innings out of at times.
  11. I personally wouldn't pick him either. He was awful last year and then we have to worry about platooning him because he can't hit lefties. Only way I'd consider is a one year deal at a reasonable rate, I wouldn't go to Moose/Grandall levels. Thing is we do have good platoons for him with Taylor/Renfroe already. Will he take that here, I doubt it, and I wouldn't lose sleep over it. But, it would be a buy low hope for bounceback type thing which is what this thread is about. To that post, Yelich would likely be the primary DH in such a scenario, of course with a lot of guys getting rest days at DH. He's constantly hurt and is poor at D anyway.
  12. Conforto was really really bad last year and needs to platoon. Who knows I guess, baseball markets are crazy but I'd guess people aren't lined up to hand him a big deal. I think he could fall in line with the idea of this thread, in that he might be a Moose/Grandal type option. Not bargain shopping like some guys here that'll go for under 5 mil, but still a buy low (relative to what he looked like 12-24 months ago) in that you might hope you can get on 1 year not crazy deal so he can hope for a rebound and cash in the following year.
  13. I agree with the crowds/noise/students diminished the last few years. I've been going to games consistently since 03ish. KC was a massive home court advantage in that Harris/Tucker/Butch era, it used to get pretty loud/crazy. The students sections were basically full all 3 levels for all games, even bad opponents. Now, there's rarely anyone 3rd deck, I remember saying during MSU on Friday that's first time in forever I remember seeing students 3rd deck full. I really don't know why. Guesses would be fans are complacent after 20 years of being very good, and for young people there's a zillion other entertainment options compared to 20 years ago. Outside the student section issues, the old people on the sides continue to get older (but obviously a lot of seats are stubhubbed out). For the most part, these seats are grandfathered into the people who got them when the KC was built and you have to donate a ton money to get a lower level season ticket. These people are rarely going to give those seats up. So that could be a factor too. Yes good to see Carlson showing positives so hopefully there's no more need for Gilmore. Yes kind of surprising Hoiberg has been this rough. Slight reminder to UW fans in both sports who always call for firings to get us to the next level, the grass isn't always greener. I didn't get it from Neb with Miles, he took them from trash to decent and borderline tourney most years, that's good improvement so let him keep working. Stability and being good (but not great) isn't so bad, one bad hire at a non blue blood program and you can quickly become the bottom the league.
  14. I didn't think a midseason firing would happen but yea I remember during the year thinking if there was some retired or someone who's been off for a year or two with a big ST background that could have been brought in as a consultant and do some quality control and pointers. Who knows, maybe something like that was done and we have no idea on it though.
  15. Agree, there's a near zero chance he doesn't get fired. But, if he's generally a good person with how fired up people are right now waiting some time can maybe save him some embarrassment/grief a bit once this is off people's radar and they put down the pitchforks. Throwing out a guess, this will get out Sat/Sun when all the attention is on the other games.
  16. Then you can't have other guys in either. Essentially they're saying it's better to be like the 5-10th best player in the league while doing your roids, so you fly under the radar with them. But if you're far and away the best player it puts more spotlight on you so you're out. It's akin to everyone freaking out/booing/heckling Braun while cheering for guys on their own team who were in the same scandal, Braun being the MVP just got more attention/headlines/news. Guys like Pudge and Ortiz can't be in, plus countless other cheats who are in (not just ped guys), but then say Bonds can't be. For Rose, wasn't him not being eligible part of the deal he made to avoid prosecution or some kind of larger penalty for it? Could be fuzzy on my memory but I had it in my head that I thought it was disingenuous to always be whining about this when he agreed to it.
  17. Interesting. First, I don't see how that will help at all in beating the SEC once you're in the playoff, other than it increases OSU's chances from making the B1G title game to like 97% instead of 85%. Once you're there you're still at a massive uphill battle to the SEC. Second, it's so tough to do that when it's not a round robin schedule. You'll also very likely have some complicated tiebreak scenarios among 1 and 2 loss teams, but I suppose that can happen on determining division winners now. But I'd guess chances go up much with more teams involved including ones who didn't play each other(unlike in divisions). Another thing to note if such a change happened would be if they skew the schedule to try and push more big matchup within the conference, like how its currently set up to create the top teams from each side playing more often. For the purposes of what they're doing (and TV and to get lower teams bowl eligible) I would think they would keep that going. But in general it's not really fair so it's another complication of how to cycle the schedule. Plus, the issue of there will be guaranteed rivalry games set in too, further complicating it. One thing I like on it though is eliminating a conf game to get more involved with legit non conf opponents from the other major conferences, and to do them at home fields. In general, UW has been proactive on this already but it's good overall for the sport for everyone to do it. Oddly, in spite of the current geographical division setup making much more sense overall (and the old one being made fun of) the old attempted balancing of divisions might actually have been the better way in terms of the issues they're trying to deal with here.
  18. Wow, good find. Finally something that makes sense as to why this could happen.
  19. Yea I think it's ridiculous Bonds isn't in. Even more compounded by somehow Ortiz gets in with a failed test. Remember Pudge walked right into. But Bonds can't as the best player of the generation.
  20. Well I'll take it, but I just can't see why he'd want to come here. What a turn of events for the Mertz hype train if that were the case. Essentially Williams would be taking the spot of the top two QBs in that recruiting class (Mertz/Rattler).
  21. This is exactly the right way to look at it, well said. Even as a general sports nerd I view it as what it is, entertainment and fun. Yes frustration for a bit after stuff like this but no one should be contributing to the domestic violence numbers over sporting events, going on rants on twitter/FB or just generally being angry/depressed. And at this point as WI sports fans, yea we finally got the Bucks title, but I've just become accustomed to being good but losing at the end. It sure beats being crummy like all sports in WI were my whole childhood pretty much. I think I said to a friend after it happened, 'well I certainly could've used another 3-4 weeks of entertainment this time of the year with nothing else going on and it being so cold.' That's really it for me, next two games were gonna be very difficult no matter what so wasn't going to get all upset if they didn't win both. Pretty much the same sentiment as you.
  22. Yea for sure, bottomline the D should've gotten it done. And like I said I don't know Buffalo's kicker or if that's something they do. But it's very common in the league to do on purpose these days(not just at crunch time), including pushing it to one side of the field so the D knows where to target. It's one of the things players have pointed out as an unintended consequence of the safety move to move up the kickoffs. Maybe Buffalo just hasn't done that all year though, so yea I'm fine with them deciding this was their best route, they know their team better than me. In an ideal world though, if they had skillset/practice/history in their repertoire it would've been the best play in the moment. But I have no idea if they do or not.
  23. I don't think the squib was the play. Guy can just fall on it at the 30ish and no time runs off. The move was to kick high to the 5ish yd line towards a sideline like so many teams try to do regularly. It forces them to blow 5-7 seconds or start at the 5. The argument against it would be if Hill was out there. Don't hold me to it, but I thought they showed someone else besides Hill back. Either way, I think I still do it as it's better to have Hill with it at the 5 after a high kick than at the 40 after he catches a pass of some kind. But, who knows, maybe the Buff kicker just isn't good at the popup type kicks like this.
  24. What a huge embarrassing failure all over to blow that game. Had control the whole game and just let them hang around. And mostly that's on the O and Rodgers. IDK, with all the positivity to finish the year and then losing this game when he basically played like trash it would be logical to think he might shut up and work behind the scenes to stay and give it another try next year rather than leaving. If they'd lost again in a shootout with the D blowing it like they did for 10 years it a bit different narrative than him playing like trash. But, even what should be a humbling loss like that won't be enough to humble him. GB is still his best shot at title contention imo. If they do run it back again next year maybe we should actually prefer to not be homefield so they can play in normal weather. But man that bye week should be so valuable (granted it wasn't for either team this year). If Brady actually does retire, how easy would it be for Rodgers to slide into his spot there as long as he takes the lower salary like Brady? I know they're in cap hell too.
  25. I don't think they'd have let that info out if it wasn't basically a done deal. Things have been tight lipped since PC came in. Engram's kid a DB on the team too, I think he's still here as far as I know.
