  1. Agreed. He is getting close to looking like a fringe ace. I wouldnt quite say dominant the way Ben Sheets was at times. But it sure seems like every time Nelson goes out he is going to give you 6 or 7 innings with 2 runs or less.
  2. Because Scooter said he wants to play against LHP.... In other words....makes no sense...
  3. I can almost guarantee the Astros will want to partner up with the new San Antonio franchise. That will free up Fresno. The issue is, until the new stadium in San Antonio opens up in 2019, I doubt anyone will want to move. Even then, would the Brewers want to affiliate with Fresno? I imagine maybe the Dodgers would want Fresno and the Brewers could land in Oklahoma City?
  4. Sky Sox Officially headed to San Antonio... http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_29737764/colorado-springs-sky-sox-are-moving-san-antonio
  5. DHonks and Nate, I am good friends with many individuals on the Pima County Sports and Tourism Authority Board. Tucson is still very interested in bringing back spring training and AAA baseball. Hi Corbett Field and Tucson Electric Park(Kino Stadium) Still Exist. Hi Corbett has been collegized by the U of A and now looks very amateurish IMHO. Much like what ASU has done to Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Kino Stadium is good to go. It is still AAA quality and ready for move in. Unfortunately, however, in order to get good attendance a new stadium would need to be built. Kino Stadium is on the south side. Middle class people with cash do not want to drive down there to catch a game. If a stadium were built in east, north, or northwest tucson I think you could get the attendance needed.
  6. Pugger, It doesn't look like my message came off the way I intended. I am not surprised in the least that this team is terrible. I was responding to people who were saying that they didnt expect the team to be as bad as they look. Months ago I predicted them to lose 100 games. However, I am very excited about the minor league system. Arcia looks good, Nottingham could be a beast, Phillips is exciting, Hader is exciting, and further on down the line we have guys like Trent Clark and Gilbert Lara, and Cody Ponce. -2237
  7. I don't know if I was prepared enough. This team is really really awful. Carter sucks, Hill sucks, Villar sucks, Gennett sucks, Flores sucks, and Broxton is young and sucks. As far as pitching goes, Nelson looks like a decent #2, but the rest of the staff are a bunch of #4's and #5's. I will not be shocked if they lose 100 games. Especially if Lucroy is traded and Maldonado becomes the everyday catcher. Sadly, it is time to revert to 2003 and start checking the A+ and AA box scores before even looking at what the MLB squad did. Frankly, Nelson and Santana might be the only two players on the big league roster here for the long haul.
  8. I don't get it. You keep old and average Torres, but get rid of younger and talented Pena. Weird. If we were trying to compete this year, I could understand, but that is not the case.
  9. I'll bite: MVP- Domingo Santana, Scooter Gennett, and Yadiel Rivera (But beware of the small sample size). CY Young- Will Smith(unhittable until his injury). Rookie of the Spring- Yadiel Rivera What Kind of Laugh is that Award: Best Social Media Post- Brett Phillips Don't Forget About Me: Most Impressive Performance of Someone Who's Not Going to Make the 25man Opening Day Roster- Hader, Nottingham, and Wilkins. Best Play/Highlight- Kirk Nieuwenhuis ninth inning double against the cubs that capped the comeback at Sloan Park and/or Yadiel Rivera two out ninth inning HR versus the A's in Mesa to take the lead. Best Moment of the Spring- Lucroy didn't get hurt. Worst Moment of the Spring: Rymer Liriano Drilled in the Face, Will Smith hurts knee putting on shoe. Stats Don't Mean Anything Award: Aaron Hill and Chase Anderson Who Won Spring Training Award- Yadiel Rivera hands down. Coming into spring people thought he was Hernan Irribarren round 2. Now, maybe he's got a future.
  10. I think this is all pretty spot on. Let's see if Walsh can translate his OB skills to the big leagues - play some 2B in the platoon, get in at 3B, pinch hit, etc. I'm skeptical Rivera has suddenly figured out how to hit, but what the heck. Let's see what happens. I saw him play a bunch this spring and something looks different. Guy actually has some pop in his bat and hits the ball hard. That said, I'm a little worried that sparse playing time could be rough on him.
  11. Panic much? Spring training stats are soooooooooooooo meaningless. Spring training stats are not an appropriate way to gauge a player, at all. See Jean Segura's spring numbers.... No way he is going to hit .500 for a month during the regular season.
  12. Total agree he's having a nice spring but one word of caution on the power , in the Arizona spring most everyone has a power boost. You are very correct. That said, he hit 1 home run in 290 at bats in Colorado Springs in 2015. I would venture to say that Colorado Springs is more of launching pad than Arizona. Frankly, the two games I have watched Rivera this spring, he has reminded me ab bit of JJ Hardy. Gangly looking guy, but a sweet swing with a surprising amount of pop.
  13. Yadiel Rivera is making a very serious play at being the Brewers second baseman of the future, or at least until Isan Diaz is ready. Rivera is actually showing some serious power. In 24 spring at bats he has hit two homers and yesterday hit a ball out near the centerfield monster for a triple. I think he goes to Colorado Springs this year to get some more confidence and experience. He really struggled there last year and posted a .238 BA and .266 OBP. If he can put on another 15 lbs. I think he could display Matt Carpenter type numbers.
  14. Vegas is a looooooong 4.5 hour drive from Phoenix through wasteland desert. I just don't see that being realistic. The players would be completely fried from long bus rides by the time the season rolled around. Yes, I realize Florida has lots of long bus rides, but Vegas would be worse. Years ago the San Diego Padres used to train in Yuma, AZ at Yuma Sun Stadium. The bus rides to Phoenix and Tucson were terrible, the players griped and the team left after only a few years and built the facility in Peoria. Google it if your curious.
  15. Andy Wilkins is tearing it up. Lucroy has looked healthy, he's 3 for 8 with two doubles. Alex Presley has already hit two homeruns. Yadiel Rivera looks big and has hit two ninth inning go ahead home runs in two games. Chris Carter has already hit two homers. Chase Anderson, Wily Peralta, Zach Davies, Jimmy Nelson and Matt Garza have all looked fine. Only two pitchers who have looked bad are Hiram Burgos and Michael Blazek.
  16. I actually attended yesterdays game in Mesa versus the A's. They actually looked the best I've seen them in at least 2 years. Whole bunch of real hungry guys fighting for open spots. Andy Wilkins looks good, Keon Broxton showed good discipline, Arcia looks good, Cecchini looked good, Nelson looked good etc. Yadiel Rivera also looks like he's put on some serious wieght and has hit two homers in two days. Go figure.
  18. If they are really all in this year, I bet they just sign Austin Jackson.
  19. Thought I would revive this thread. Attanasio arrived in Phoenix today to address the team and media. He finally spoke candidly about the Brewers future at Maryvale. Here is a link to AdamMcCalvey's article on brewers.com: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/165468730/mark-attanasio-brewers-spring-training-home For those who don't want to read/watch, here is the readers digest version. Apparently getting a high tech facility is a big priority and Attanasio plans to set a deadline for working out a deal with the City of Phoenix. If the deadline passes with no deal, he will look at all options, both inside the Phoenix metropolitan area and in Florida. He said he would like to be moved in to the new facility in the next couple years, so construction would need to be immanent.
  20. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/02/brewers-sign-blaine-boyer.html Today (Friday 2/12) the Brewers added Blaine Boyer on a minor league deal. Nice add since this guy has some big league experience.
  21. Here is an article from back in November stating that Lucroy and Smith could fill needs for the twins. http://www.twinkietown.com/2015/11/5/9674100/twins-notes-robinson-lucroy-park-free-agency-rankings-mccutchen I think some people here are undervaluing Smith. He's one of the best left handed back-end relievers in the game. He is not going to bring back the Kimbrel return. However, I dont think a Smith for Kepler trade is ridiculous. That said, a Lucroy and Smith trade could be VERY interesting.
  22. I agree. I think Lucroy gets traded and I think to either Texas or Washington. Both teams have the system to make it happen and have a need at catcher. Stearns/Attanasio comments are a smoke screen. No way they come out and say, "Yeah, we plan to trade Lucroy asap." I also firmly believe the offers Stearns received this winter are still open, but he is waiting to see if a team will crack and up the ante before opening day. Hold out as long as possible to get one or two more players.
  23. If Smith once again thrives especially in the closer role (guessing him and Jeffress will be sharing the duties), his value will be on par with what the market has been for relievers as of late. You absolutely do not throw Smith or Jeffress in. Those are back in guys who could bring at least two good prospects back a piece..... Smith with a great year or first half could bring 3-4. If Smith gets us Giolito, I would throw him in without thinking twice. Giolito is a consensus top 10 prospect in all of baseball and the #1 pitching prospect in all of baseball. He's got future ace written all over him. I doubt the Nationals would ever trade him, but if Lucroy and Smith would pry him away I would do it without hesitation.
  24. This is a massive understatement. The Lucroy return will be huge for the future of the franchise. Stearns will likely be getting at least 3 players back. Get all three right and that could be the future. Mess it up and it could extend the rebuild 2-3 years.
  25. If the Rangers called and offered that package I would accept in an absolute heartbeat. Gallo, Mazara and Brinson are all top 15 prospects. That would be like adding Prince Fielder, Corey Hart, and Rickie Weeks to your system circa 2006.
