  1. I mean a reliever almost seems destined. Stearns has not been secretive about the lack of depth in the pen and its hard to be a World Series contender and not bolster a weak bullpen at the deadline. I suppose they could trade for a starter and shift someone to the pen....but I am betting they get a more true reliever.
  2. The Olympics have a sponsored ad on Facebook that I see every time I go in: *Simon Biles Picture* “Never Miss the Action” Im not criticizing here for dropping out…but the caption with a picture of her kind of annoys me and makes me chuckle at the same time.
  3. What FIP calculation? B Ref shows his lowest as this year at 3.56. The lowest before (and most seasons were close to it too) 3.84. That isn’t significant to me. If 3.56 isn’t significant to you, I guess we’ll have to disagree. You said some pretty significantly. That would be one…and not even that because it isn’t a full season. He is a nice pitcher, but a pretty consistent 3.85ish pitcher according to FIP.
  4. What FIP calculation? B Ref shows his lowest as this year at 3.56. The lowest before (and most seasons were close to it too) 3.84. That isn’t significant to me.
  5. Was a huge prospect years ago.
  6. Was he specifically blaming Gute? Sounded like he was talking about the organization that he has been apart of. The leader, Mark Murphy, has been around Rodgers entire tenure. Unless I missed him blaming Gute for offering Jordy Nelson league minimum, I didn’t watch the entire thing.
  7. I'm slightly worried about paying Adams, but this is possibly the greatest WR in franchise history and either the best or second best in the league, and an injury prone slot guy with a single 1,000-yard season seven years ago. Yes, it’s apple to oranges from a talent level. But the contracts are also apple to oranges. One guy would be a massive longer term deal and the other is spare change we are handing out at the start of training camp. I’m more worried about Cobb from an injury perspective than I am his talent/age ability. Even then, not like a tear will be shed if he tears his ACL. Cobb just isn’t that old. This isn’t like Jordy Nelson who was coming off a terrible age 32 year…that is a more legitimate age concern.
  8. It can be a big deal to teams on a tighter budget. Depends if one side of the trade is dying to dump the money or the acquiring team is scared to add a bunch of payroll. It is probably a worse situation with limited suitors. If a bunch of teams are interested usually one won't really care about the financials.
  9. Classic example of why people get way too caught up in strength of schedule and what team we are playing at any given time. Sometimes the best teams in baseball are slumping like they suck and sometimes the bottom feeders go streaking.
  10. As long as he proves himself right (again(winning the MVP when everyone thought he was declining)) I think I will be okay with it. No one seems worried about making 28 year old Adams the highest paid receiver in the league, but I guess 30 year old Cobb is AARP old to people?
  11. Were they talking pay cut? Or were they talking about a restructure? Usually they mean the latter where the money gets converted to a signing bonus. The player gets more guaranteed money today, and the team gets cap relief. I mean, if people were talking pay cut, that's silly, but if it was restructure, yes, Rodgers could have been open to that. And of course, because I am cynical, I don't believe for one second that Brady took a true pay cut. I am sure Kraft was getting him his money somehow. No, I don't have proof. Brady was probably getting all the money from the fifth blade they added to the Gillette razor. Both...and yah, I think those people are under the impression that Tom Brady takes pay cuts or signs contracts for less than he could get. Personally I have no idea, because I really don't care how much Tom Brady gets paid or how it compares to other players.
  12. Its incredibly likely Randall Cobb will be a more impactful player than Amari Rodgers would have been THIS year. So I really don't see an issue there. Also, people continuously bring up Rodgers never taking a pay cut or altering his contract to help the cap. Yah, I wouldn't either if the team never listens to me, treats me like a robot just playing football, and cares nothing about what I think. Can you imagine the Packers coming to Rodgers and saying, "Hey Aaron, can you take a paycut for us? For what? None of your business, whatever we want." I mean, why would someone take a paycut with the kind of relationship those two sides had? I think it is overblown anyway. Good for Tom Brady for taking paycuts, most players want max money. I think we can stop pretending Tom Brady is the expectation or the norm.
  13. Always thought the prospects of Joey Gallo coming here were a little overrated. Good player, but he is only controllable another year and his OPS is .869 with a career mark of .833. Low average and lots of K's. It would have helped our line up, but he is no Jose Ramirez.
  14. My guess is that Alabama plays Texas and Oklahoma about once a decade. They don’t want all their best teams knocking each other off. I mean Texas really isn't that good and I am not sure Oklahoma is all that great outside of the Big 12. Eventually the playoff expands and it is much less meaningful to go undefeated or have one loss max. At that point big games and big wins may matter a lot more much like they do in basketball. Lets not forget the love for the SEC was already ridiculous. If this expansion happens the committee is going to want two of the teams just based on how great the conference is.
  15. Big 12 is claiming that ESPN is trying to destroy the conference and are a main push to get Texas/Oklahoma to the SEC. They claim that ESPN is trying to push another conference to take a chunk of the remaining Big 12 schools and are bribing them to do so. It makes some sense because if they make the Big 12 dissolve versus Texas/Oklahoma leaving those two teams may not have to pay the $70mil+ they would owe to leave before 2025. Past that I don't really know much above TV contracts and conference contracts to really understand how this all shakes out. It still seems like Texas and Oklahoma will leave next year to play in the SEC and pay the millions if that is what the courts later decide.
  16. two players on optional assignment have been dealing with injuries in mario feliciano and corey ray. i haven't been following their progression, but if the brewers are willing to give them major league pay and service time, either or both could be recalled (not to report) and placed on the 60-day injured list to open up a spot or two. it's what they did with dylan file. I really doubt they want to start Feliciano's service time for nothing. At this point I think they would prefer to just dump Corey Ray over paying him MLB money.
  17. Not a game changer for the roster, but a rally solid and valuable pick up for the team. Consider we gave up nothing of value to us, pretty good. The teams must have used the trade simulator/value site though, perfect $2.7mil for $2.7mil trade.
  18. Just for future reference (for everyone), making fake Bob tweets is stupid popular among people. Every time I see a Bob tweet people are responding with fake screenshots like that.
  19. "Stearns/Brewers never let leaks/rumors out." And we know this....how? Plenty of rumors around the Brewers come out. I would tend to agree there are less Brewers rumors compared to other teams, but that is largely due to us being a small market. Reporters want to report on big markets...not us. Probably helps we rarely go after major players aggressively like other teams do. Brewers do a good job keeping things in house, but I am sure plenty Brewer related rumors are coming out of our side.
  20. Part of it (which was apart of what he said) isn't just that they didn't bring them back, but how they got treated on the way out. Not being offered any kind of contract or being pathetically low balled and a few other things I can't remember that he said. Obviously Rodgers is close with many of the high profile guys on the team and when they get treated 'poorly' Rodgers hears about it. Maybe it didn't bother Rodgers that much at the time at 30 years old...but once you get old and you start getting treated 'poorly' yourself I think that probably spiraled things quickly. I think it is somewhat another example of pro-players not really liking the cutthroat attitude of front offices these days. As others have said the Packers have had good luck getting rid of players when they do.
  21. He said he is not closing the door on the future. I think that is accurate...but I think at this point they would really have to bend over to some of his thoughts/demand going forward. Not sure they would do that, but they did go grab Cobb so it hints they may be willing to give in some.
  22. Acquiring “meh” relievers is going for it when the team above you is easily better by a wide margin?
  23. Is there anywhere that gives a decent schedule of events and what channel they are on? That specifically states if it is a live showing or a recorded version that already happened? When the Olympics are on the other side of the world the scheduling is usually a nightmare...but this year seems especially bad. I went to look for the live gymnastics yesterday and it seemed like it was only on Peacock? How is that even possible?
  24. Or we could just stick to the thread title like has been requested more than once. It doesn't seem that hard to do...there are multiple other threads you could post a hypothetical to. Heck, just make a new thread if you really want. This thread is going to be highly obnoxious and annoying in the coming days when rumors start getting heavy if we start mixing real rumors with hypotheticals we come up with ourselves. Someone is going to see Gallo for ____ and think it is a real rumor and in reality it is not. I mean guys...we have many trade deadline threads....it would be nice if one were limited to mostly just a collection of actual rumors with links. It is pretty convenient when done right.
