  1. My wife liked to put grape jelly on brats before we met. I put an end to that and have never actually seen her put grape jelly on one.
  2. To be fair there haven't been any 3+ year bad contract signings. He sometimes gambles on players but never gives them long term contracts we regret. Something Melvin had to do with pitchers because he couldn't grow enough young talent on that side of the ball. I don't have a huge problem with him avoiding bigger FA contracts. Many times they don't work out, they are pricey, and it may be the least efficient way to get offense. That being said you have to get some offense somehow and he really hasn't done that great, especially in recent years. If he doesn't want to spend in FA and doesn't want to make trades he best get to developing it. The outlook is a bit scary. Not much room on the payroll and a bad farm system on paper. The later means trades aren't going to be easy and the pipeline of offense may suck to.
  3. I said it in the other thread, but I would imagine Braun is actively working out and staying in baseball shape for the possibility to return if that is actually something he is considering. If he isn't staying in shape I would guess he has zero intentions of coming back. So with that I would guess he would be going the team pretty quickly if he were to sign. I doubt he would want to do any training in Appleton to prepare so likely straight to the MLB roster. Then eased in to the line up.
  4. Yeah that is what I thought of doing initially, so good to hear that someone else does this. I don't think I would have any issue with putting the cover on each time I leave for the week. Unless it proves to be a giant pain in the butt. Lots of people will just let it sit next to a dock, that is what people just renting a dock space have to do. As long as it is a clean lake and the boat won't be sitting in a pile of algae/muck it isn't a huge deal. Just buy a good cover if you go that route, they are mighty expensive, but worth it.
  5. A huge problem is total lack of long term performers. 3+ year performers: Christian Yelich Eric Thames Ryan Braun 2+ Year Performers: Travis Shaw Domingo Santana Braun was here before Stearns even arrived, Thames has been gone for multiple years now, Shaw hasn't been good since 2018, and one of Santana's good seasons was only 77 games long. Stearns has got to stop having most of the offense a yearly revolving door.
  6. Being from Utah State is pretty meaningless. The 2021 #3 overall pick just came from NDSU. Love was pretty widely thought of a good physical prospect with development needed. He isn't chopped liver... But still, 1st round QBs flame out at what... 50% rate? Frankly, sitting behind Rodgers for a couple of years isn't the worst thing for him... There are no guarantees that Rodgers will actually physically be able to play after another year or two... And if he is and Love is looking good in pre-season and/or some regular season games, it makes the most sense to trade him off. ESPN, the media, and fans definitely care whether you went to Alabama or Utah State. I wasn’t referring to his skill or his potential future success. Im pointing out the fact he didn’t get the exposure before getting drafted that would cause an uproar if they were treated “poorly”. Not to mention he wasn’t drafted all that high in the grand scheme. If Jordan Love gets upset and demands a trade no one is going to come to the rescue and have his back.
  7. Stearns hired them (or didn’t fire/replace them), he is the leader. Of course how long before you blame a GM for that? It takes half a decade or more to even know how a draft class did. So if you give him a 3 year buffer to figure out how to draft and create a system you are up to 8 or so years before you really can critique a guys drafting at the GM level. I don’t know I am anywhere close to feeling like I should judge Stearns drafting ability.
  8. Decent, shoot...might be the best in the history of the franchise. Maybe not even close.
  9. If I could time travel I would go back to about 2014, post the stats of our starting pitchers in 2021, and then say someone in 2021 is proposing the possibility of trading one of them while they have 3+ years left of control even though we are coming off three straight postseason appearances. I don’t think I could even fathom a thread like this ever happening with what we had endured for years of total failure to have even anything close to a top of the rotation starter coming through our system. Competing as a small market and strong farm system usually don’t co-exist.
  10. I was going to make a similar comment, but wisely looked up his recent stats. Last 7 days: 4 BBs SB .400 OBP .775 OPS He ain’t the long term answer...but, I will take that for a week.
  11. That list kind of shows the problem people have though. It’s all essentially pre-2020, so little the last two years. One of the success stories from this year (Wong) isn’t really known for offense. Maybe he gives a mid to high .700 OPS...but most of his career that hasn’t happened over a full season. We will see how much he actually hits. It’s really hard to call Jesus Aguilar a success when he dumped him after one good season and it turned out to be a real terrible move. Also hard to call Keston Hiura much of an offensive accomplishment after how horrid he has been the last two years. Not only is he in AAA with massive issues he also got moved to 1B and still has awful defense. Now Hiura needs a .800+ OPS to even be a solid starter. You win some, you lose some. This will be an interesting thing to look back on in 2-3 years. I’m just glad he didn’t find trading one of our top pitchers as a good idea.
  12. I don’t heavily watch the NBA, most just follow from afar, but this has the be the first year in like decades where the championship and even the finals is completely wide open for many teams to get there. Most years you could confidently predict 1/2 or even both finals teams...doesn’t feel that way this year. If the Nets were healthy it would probably be, once again, another predictable finish. They are far from healthy though. Of course ESPN just shoves the Nets and Lakers down everyone’s throats. I don’t think I have ever seen Utah get more than game highlights on air.
  13. Team store can do it, you can call them and order if you aren’t visiting any time soon.
  14. His ability to create an offense is certainly getting pretty questionable these days and it certainly hasn’t been pretty the last few years. In Stearns defense (a tad) offense really isn’t the focus of this team. They want to build pitching and defense as priorities. That is fine, but he has indeed traded away a number of hitters that ended up being good. While Grisham brought back Urias, it felt like they wanted to find a way to trade Grisham and Urias is what they found. Could they have gone and got Urias without trading Grisham? Maybe. Of course Stearns has also dabbled into FA and the signings of Garcia/Bradley Jr. are just comical disasters. Maybe one of those guys (or both) gives us a good year so they are total train wreck signings, but both have been horrendous so far. If you are going to invest nearly $25mil a year into two FA OFers get some offense man. At least Kolton Wong is working out so far. Im not ready to really evaluate Stearns in general or his ability to build an offense...it still feels too early to make that opinion/call. It’s like judging a minor leaguer and calling him a bust after 3-4 years in the minors. That being said...he is not trending the correct way.
  15. If Rodgers gets an extension no one is going to care about Jordan Love rotting on the bench...no one is going to be clamoring for him to get out of jail. ESPN does that when someone is picked #1 and sits for more than 15 minutes of a game. Pretty much everyone outside of Green Bay probably forgot Jordan Love exists outside of his involvement in this drama. If the drama ends everyone will forget he exists. He just isn’t a highly touted prospect, he is out of Utah State for gosh sakes.
  16. From a financial standpoint? Absolutely. One of the largest reasons a team like Seattle was able to make back-to-back super bowls, putting together a crazy good defense was that they didn't have a QB eating up $30-40million of their cap each year. The value of having a cheap QB on a rookie contract is substantial, as if you even get just above-average (non-elite) level play from that QB, you can fill in so many more gaps around him, thus lessening the learning curve and pressure on his play. Sure, in theory....but how likely is that in general and especially so on a guy sitting for three years? Probably more realistic and hopeful to win in their first contract after their rookie one. If Love signed a contract after a year of starting or even before the money is not going to be that insane. The problem is when they become a Top 5 or Top 10 QB and you have to pay record rate. I just think it is mightily overblown.
  17. Hiura sucks and can’t even figure out one swing, how is he suppose to find success with another one? Is this the same logic Lindblom used when learning to pitch? Did he just keep learning pitches because the prior one sucked? One terrible swing isn’t going to be fixed adding another one to the mix.
  18. Obviously in a perfect world the Packers would love to play out Rodgers contract like it is a bunch of one year deals. It would be a fantastic situation to sit on an MVP QB like that till he gets injured, sucks, or retires. Then you have a high ceiling groomed QB waiting in the wings. I’ve never thought they have to make a Love decision after three years or whatever just to make a decision. I have always thought they should just ride Rodgers till he sucks whether that be next year or in 4 years. Of course it’s understandable Rodgers doesn’t want that, what veteran QB playing as good as they ever had would? I understand both side of this, but eventually the Packers have to accept they can’t have the perfect world situation or move on. I have always thought the whole needing Love to play after three years is BS. Too much focus on him playing a few years on his rookie contract. Does it really matter that much? I have always thought Love would never even need to play a down on his rookie contract. If you think he is that good sign him before he ever starts a full year or just franchise tag him till you figure out if he is good or not. If he sucks the franchise will be put back years anyway so the money wasted will be irreverent. I know it would never happen that way, but it seems like it could and be a perfectly fine of a way to do it.
  19. The offense is bad statistically. That’s even more concerning considering they have been very clutch and at one point pretty good with RISP. While those stats don’t necessarily have to rank closely to each other they were and probably still are way off of each other. The offense is already considered bad and statistics would hint at a large regression backwards...not forwards.
  20. I’m guessing Rodgers would just require the extension that would effectively make it impossible to dump him in the next 3-4 years. That would pretty much squash Jordan Love drama and I’m guessing the Packers would probably trade Love next off season. Seem like they would get better value from trading Love in the offseason when more teams are scrambling for a QB versus now where many have a “guy” picked out. That’s just my guess on how that would go down.
  21. I’m exaggerating, but at the end of the day it isn’t like they are really explaining the situation. Rodgers could come out and say a bunch of sappy I love you stuff too...but without the situation being resolved one way or the other it doesn’t matter a whole bunch. Rodgers doesn’t really need to say anything. The best thing he can do is work on a resolution as fast as possible. Really, that is better for all parties involved versus talking about it.
  22. Packers didn’t say anything to refute or really even defuse the situation...so do they OWN the leaks too?
  23. I’d love to disagree with some of these hot takes, but I have a hard time as they are kinda accurate.
