  1. Those restrictions exist to protect local broadcasting rights that then create gigantic TV deals for us to sign. I think one should want blackout restrictions...they just shouldn't want that broadcaster not working with streaming services that many are turning to. It is all posturing. Eventually Sinclair will having their own streaming option or will work on deals with streaming services. I would not be totally shocked if one of those deals happened before or in short order after the season starts.
  2. It is a measly $3.50 cheaper by my calculations for me to get internet/cable bundled over having internet/YTTV (and I might be missing a BS fee or two). That is without any HD boxes and using it straight off the smart tv...and I have no idea how decent their app actually is or if that is actually an option one can do. I am sure that app works similar to a streaming app and has a delay. That is of course for the entry year and the next year it blows past the cost of YTTV.
  3. Considering he hit 2 homers last year the bar wasn't set very high to be "just as strong".
  4. What exactly was he speaking at and how drunk was he? His comments are so random/rant/out there they sound like something that would come out of some guys mouth at a random bar at 2am.
  5. Housing inventory will warm up with the weather, but so will interested buyers too. If it is in a good location and is free of major problems they just don't last on the market pretty much anywhere in Wisconsin. For the reasons you mentioned I don't see the big foreclosure boom many see. They are really trying to help avoid that and even then...not like it will be nice family homes. More likely to be lower end housing that really isn't what is driving the market. Maybe some areas will have a foreclosure problem, but for the most part the housing market is dominated by people trying to buy a home during low interest rates or trying to take advantage of low rates and all their built up equity to upgrade homes. I saw an article that believed there could be a housing shortage of starter homes in the next 10-20 years as people buy them now, prices skyrocket, and then people won't want to move and have their mortgage rate go up 2%+.
  6. Kevin Mathers is from Madison, WI and is a UW-Madison graduate, I believe. I think this is blown a bit out of proportion. The service time stuff, who cares, every team in baseball is the same way. Is anyone shocked about that? As far as dumping on a few players English...yah, not the best thing to do. However, I think one could work back from that without 'cancel culture' forcing him to be fired. Of course he has the history of not creating the best workplace environment, so it isn't like this is his first mistake. Sad part is a good chunk of baseball executives probably have similar ignorant thoughts about foreign players...that's what you get when the leaders in the sport are of certain demographics for the most part.
  7. Do you know something? No, he just likes Braun.
  8. The CC Sabathia voting was stupid too. He finished 5th because he got massively docked for not being in the NL all year. Which was stupid in itself, but he ended up 6th in MVP voting...the most votes any pitcher got. It gets even more dumb when you see where other NL pitchers ranked in MVP voting: 8th - Brad Lidge (4th in Cy voting) 14th - Johan Santana (3rd in Cy voting) 17th - Brandon Webb (2nd in Cy voting) 23rd - Tim Lincecum (1st in Cy voting) 24th - Jose Valverde (no votes) No Votes - Ryan Dempster (6th in Cy Voting) I would have to look, but modern day voting cannot be this stupid. Lincecum won the Cy Young and barely made the MVP vote? His team sucked, yes, but Webb's and Santana's respective team didn't make the postseason either. I thought the voters only hated the winner being on a non postseason team...but jeez 2008 was ruthless.
  9. Proposal probably calls for the roof to be open just because it will sound better to call it 'outdoors' not 'indoors'. Every limiter gives bigger gatherings to outdoor events...so of course they don't want to do something that would technically make the indoors.
  10. He got what he deserved. Sure, it got leaked on him...but he was the one fighting the positive test on a technicality with no science to actually back it up. It isn't like the seal was tampered with or something. Karma rightfully got him a few years later. I don't see him really wrongfully treated these days. Most fans have gotten over it, even opposing fans. You are never going to please everyone...people hated Braun before.
  11. I would argue keeping it open would be worse. Now people will get cold, want to warm up, and it will increase uncontrolled congregating in the concourses etc.
  12. A big big point to consider, the bad years of Tatis are likely ridiculously far off. A decade from now $30mil a year won't be like it is now. Heck, go back to when Braun signed his extension that gave him $20mil a year. Look where that $20mil would have ranked in 2011 compared to today...$20mil isn't that insane of a salary to be handing out. Considering this locks up 26-32 year old Tatis and only goes to his age 36 season this might end up a great deal if he is truly a super star player. By the time he is 32-36 salary inflation may make his salary far from top of MLB earners. (those year figures may be slightly off...just quick glances and calculations). This is so much different than guys signing huge contracts at 28-30+ where their decline and bad years are right around the corner.
  13. I am usually pretty anti buying a vehicle new, but that is what I am going to do. The brand new one will only cost me $4k more and has almost the same MSRP that the used one originally had. Mind you this isn't some $20k Corolla, $4k really isn't that much more in the grand scheme. I will pay that instead of a used one that has 30k miles, warranty almost finished, and a bunch of half worn down parts. Wish I could just wait for sensible used car prices, but my current vehicle just doesn't fit my needs.
  14. Again, I said nothing about his potential. All I was pointing out was his risk to totally flop is much higher than others. Due to his limited experience, age, and the fact he has a 400 PA history of not being a good hitter. It is very possible he continues to be a sub .700 hitter. I don't think that is really judging him. More players flop than actually succeed...even highly rated prospects. I am guessing the odds to not end up a good player greatly increase with every 100 PAs of poor play. Just take BFRef projections for example: Urias: .695 OPS / 59% reliability Shaw: .716 OPS / 76% reliability My point is Shaw is a veteran and his production is easier to plan for. Hopefully it raises the floor production we get out of the 3B position and is probably a big reason he was signed. Urias may have the higher ceiling, but he also could give you the worst production too. For his production floor I like the Shaw signing and I think both have nice ceilings for 2021.
  15. Didn't say he was one, but he could definitely hit like one this year. He has done it for over 400 PAs now in his career in all honesty. All I am saying is he has a solid amount of risk of being atrocious with the bat, as done Robertson. At least with Shaw you can have some confidence he should be near league average...should. I won't be shocked if Urias ends up the better of the 3B or beats out Arcia at SS this year, but that is really far from assured and Urias arguably has the lowest floor of the bunch.
  16. Travis Shaw could hit like his 2020 self and I would probably be happy. Urias has a career OPS of .623 and Robertson barely had an OPS over .600 in his last extended look at the big stage. At the very least Shaw should help raise the floor of production at 3B. Urias and Robertson both have a decent probability to look like AAAA players.
  17. Wait what? There was an outside company running the team shops until 2019 I believe. It lead to crazy inflated prices and the Brewers finally took it over themselves. They claimed prices would be lower...not sure if that was the case in the end though.
  18. There was literally no other option other than to re-up with Sinclair. All this talk about them starting their own broadcast is complete fantasy (I fully realize the people talking about it probably realize that too). The team couldn't figure out how to sell jerseys in a team store themselves until the last year or two. Starting their own network is just not realistic. Reality is Sinclair is by far the best option for the Brewers and probably exponentially more money than any other option (if there even was one).
  19. If only that really meant much.
  20. Speaking of Florida, I just found out talking to a vacationing friend that part of the panhandle in Florida is in the central time zone. That seems trippy to me. The west border of Florida is almost in line with Lake Michigan. The central time zone is really fat at the bottom. Most of the UP is in the eastern time zone to match the rest of Michigan. The only counties that are central time zone are the ones that border Wisconsin. So basically someone in Wisconsin could drive directly north and move time zones...actually one could even drive NW to end up in the eastern time zone.
  21. Brewers were at about $24mil prior to this year, they signed that in about 2013. The Marlins were at $20mil prior...but their previous deal was ancient, it was signed in 2006 and obviously a bigger market than us. The Royals got $50mil recently from Sinclair for comparison purposes.
  22. I'm sure the ball just got in his eyes. I remember someone on my high school team doing this exact thing. The difference was the guy who did it was an exchange student from Sweden and didn't know what baseball was until he joined the team.
  23. Marlins announced they are going to allow their usual full capacity at 2021 games: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/marlins-announce-20-25-capacity-at-home-games-and-twitter-had-some-great-jokes/ar-BB1dI0Vd?ocid=uxbndlbing
  24. Well shelling out money for cable just to make sure you get the Brewers depends on how much games you watch. If your life at 6pm-11pm doesn't have any conflicts and you typically watch every game, yah, it is probably worth it. However, I don't watch every game and many times don't even watch till the end cause it gets so late at night. I am not shelling out another $500 a year just to see the Brewers, sorry. At that rate I might as well head to the bar weekly and have a fish fry while I watch. I am sure it helps if you are a Bucks fan too and are shelling out the extra money for another 80 or so games. For someone who just watches the Brewers it is a bigger pill to swallow.
  25. I am sure he was talking about his ability to take walks. His OBP is almost .100 higher than his average. Pretty impressive if he could hit.
