  1. Stafford never had a good defense outside of one year. Every other year it was pretty much solidly in the bottom half of the league. That being said I think he is becoming overrated by all the talk he is underrated. I don’t see blowing two first rounders on him. Why not just go draft a potential young stud versus a guy who just doesn’t seem like a guy who can really lead a team to consistent big wins?
  2. Come on, do we really believe that? I think we all know darn well the ratio of excited people to the "I wish we hadn't done this" crowd would be at least 90/10 in favor of those excited about it if we had pulled this same deal off. If we committed nearly half our payroll to two players? I mean first of all even the most homer fan should have the common sense to realize this trade wouldn’t even be possible for the Brewers. I may be be excited if we pulled this trade of and Yelich still had 2-3 years years on his ORIGINAL deal. The current Yelich deal and the Arenado deal simply can’t coexist on the Brewers. It would be an utter disaster.
  3. A decent example of why Yelich doesn’t have a ton of value if you traded him. I believe with the money kicked in the yearly salary is about what Yelich is set to get paid. Except we are on the hook to pay Yelich an extra year or two...which is a huge negative as 37 year old Yelich will probably not be too good. Yelich has more offensive ceiling...probably. However, Arenado is way better defensively and at a more premium position. Maybe some risk leaving Coors, but I doubt the Cards are overly worried or that it greatly hurt his value. It isn’t apples to apples...but it’s a pretty darn close comp for Yelich. It took $50mil for the Rockies to even get not elite prospects. Safe to say Yelich is already untradeable as I can’t imagine we would ever throw $50mil away to get rid of him. I don’t think the Brewers would even want to trade him, but just a thought as some mention the idea from time to time. Random Fact I Found That You Never Need to Know: The 4th most comparable player to Christian Yelich on BRef is Corey Hart.
  4. I’d care if I felt like we were actually trying build a championship team, but since we aren’t...hard to really be mad the Cards are improving.
  5. Anyone know when tryouts are for the MLB roster? I could get in shape here quick.
  6. I don’t think there is any reason to try and sugar coat Favre’s INT problems. Every QB has tipped and wrong route INTs. Favre is histories top INT guy because he made that many terrible decisions.
  7. I calculated it out once. Compared Roth vs. Traditional using realistic investment growth and a reasonable tax rate increase (as in not going to doomsday normal person paying 45% like some think we will eventually head to). I wish I could remember where the break even point was for tax rate increase...but thus I do not. The way I calculated it out they ended up within a couple hundred thousand of each other, slight advantage to the Roth. The total account at the end was around $4mil so that couple hundred thousand difference wasn’t much in all honesty. As I said before I think Roth is a bit overrated and I do think people miss a lot of important details. People always seem to ignore that compound growth the traditional has on that untaxed money. It certainly is not a no brainer decision.
  8. Probably, but I’d still be a bit worried about Watson’s ability to actually lead a team to a Super Bowl.
  9. I make my contributions Roth, but my employer match goes to traditional. I just think of it as diversifying between the two so whichever ends up the better in the end I am half good. Of course some day down the road I will start moving it all to traditional. I’m far off, but I envision my income staying about the same in retirement if not slightly more. So in my later years Roth really won’t make sense unless some tax hike looks obvious at the time.
  10. After Yamamoto’s debut many felt like we gave up this stud pitcher and finally a piece that went to the Marlins was going to haunt us a bit....and now he is the first one DFA’d by them I believe.
  11. Sure, but Rodgers played quite a few years before he and his receivers got those massive protections we see now. It’s not like his entire career has been in the bubble wrap era like Patrick Mahomes and co.
  12. Right, Favre’s era was different. However, at the same time he himself was ahead of his time essentially. I’m not trying to compare him to his peers necessarily...more so Rodgers. Favre threw as much as a modern QB, which only a select few did back then. In 2000 only 10 QB threw the ball 500 times, zero 600. This year 15 threw 500 times and 3 were over 600. These days everyone is throwing 450+ healthy, while back then throwing in the 300s was still common. It’s not an apples to apples comparison, but I think they are a bit more comparable than some make it. Favre was one of the rare guys who went out there and tossed the ball around all game in that era. Which, is similar to today’s game. You still have to take into consideration some differences, but it isn’t like trying to compare Rodgers to a guy from the 70s where the game was completely different.
  13. I’m guessing Rodgers has had worse RBs overall. Before Jones broke out last year Rodgers entire career has been loaded with some absolutely horrid running backs. Jamaal Williams, Brandon Jennings, Ty Montgomery, James Starks, and Alex Green have all been the leading rusher on a Rodgers team. Favre had way better running backs from the looks of it, like not even close better. Coaching can have a big impact, but going from the MVP to throwing more picks than TDs in two years is on Favre. If Holmgren sticks around would he have ended up more favorably? I mean, yah, probably. I still think he falls off a big cliff regardless. I also think the whole “different era” thing is a bit overblown. It seems to imply like it wasn’t a passing league in Favre’s time. Favre threw just as much as modern day guys, I think he threw more than Rodgers does (on average) actually. This isn’t like trying to compare Unitas (who threw about 350 times a year) to Rodgers (who throws about 550). The era was a bit different, but not that different. Their quality of defenses were close. Both never really had elite defense outside of a year or two. I think Rodgers has had more disaster defenses. Favre’s usually were at least average.
  14. In what world is a 36 year old opting for a “prove it” deal and what does Justin Turner have to prove? If they expect to get him from the Dodgers they are going to need to offer quite a bit more money...likely in the form of an extra year.
  15. I’ve always thought you could just keep Rodgers till Love’s contract expires and then make the switch if you really wanted to. I’m sure one could easily sign Jordan Love to another contract quite easily and just gamble a bit. Sure you waste his entire rookie contract, but I don’t think there is a huge threat for him to leave for nothing. If he is garbage the money won’t really matter since the franchise will be set back years trying to find a new QB. Basically do what the Patriots tried to do with Goroppolo.
  16. I think you lose the pre tax advantage of the 401K....unless you are allowed to take it out pre tax and then invest it elsewhere but I am guessing that's not allowed. Are you maxing out a Roth? You are correct she would lose that opportunity at pre-tax retirement savings, but the intention was to put it in Roth regardless. So that potential benefit to the employer 401k isn’t applicable in her case. While I don’t think Roth is the slam dunk no brainer it is made out to be (depends on the persons goals/age/situation), she being so far off of retirement it is probably a safe bet to be the better scenario in the long run.
  17. Outside of the pretty short peak of his career Brett Favre really wasn’t that special. A good QB for the time, certainly, but for a guy who won the MVP three years in a row he really fell off a cliff quick after that.
  18. The significant other is starting a new job that has a 401k, but any potential amount they put in on their part has nothing to do on what you put in. There is a .125% asset based admin fee and then whatever you invest in has a fee. The investment options sound limited too. Would she just be better off starting an account elsewhere? I know a bit about investments and retirement investing, but not sure the costs non employer sponsored plans have. Of course I’m not looking to go wild and have the ability to move funds around a bunch. Mostly just looking to let it sit in something that follows SP500/DOW as we aren’t close to retirement age.
  19. I predict he just ends up with 2 years from the Dodgers.
  20. Murphy's statement came on a radio show yesterday (before the story posted in this thread was published) and Rodgers clarifying his Sunday comments do not exclude the possibility that he wants a contract extension. From article: "Former Packers teammate A.J. Hawk asked him a question about revisiting his contract and Rodgers said he expects to have conversations with General Manager Brian Gutekunst, team president Mark Murphy and others now that the season is over." That's not a denial. I think TPlush was referring to putting to bed the "uncertain future" meaning he could be elsewhere in 2021. That was always a bit of a stretch. Beyond next season I think most bets are off. That is correct, sorry the confusion. Figure it made more sense to put it in an Aaron Rodgers thread. Rodgers said retiring a Packer is still a “dream scenario”. So yah...I don’t think he is ever going to claw his way out. If the Packers want to move on I think he is content, but I doubt he personally tries to force their hand.
  21. Pretty much piggybacked off that big rumor article that has already been talked about here. Is he actually close with Favre though? I know they have talked in more recent years...but he makes them sound like buddies.
  22. Aaron Rodgers has already clarified his comments and Mark Murphy has put to bed any chance of Aaron Rodgers leaving this off-season. And I quote Murphy, “We are not idiots.”
  23. I have always thought of the Jordan Love thing as a non issue. If Rodgers is great for another 3 years you could probably trade him for a haul. Through preseason and an inevitable Rodgers injury he could easily show enough to other teams. Garoppolo barely ever played and the Patriots traded him for about where they drafted him. Matt Cassel helped get the 34th pick in the draft. If Rodgers plays well enough we have to trade Love a team will want him if he is actually any good...or has a chance to be. We would probably get a 1st round pick the way QBs are valued these days. I mean, a former 1st round pick, sat behind Rodgers, and knows the NFL? It’s not like we would trade Love for a bag of balls. Of course...I don’t think that is even an option for the Packers in all honesty. However, they could probably recoup most of the value and probably plus some if they wanted to down the road.
  24. I mean personally I’d like to see the Packers restructure the deal to kick the can down the road as far as the cap. I’d like to see them put a lot of eggs in the basket for the next few years, but I doubt it happens after they moved up to take QB last year. The next few years will (arguably) be their best chance to win a Super Bowl in the next 10+ years. Not holding my breath Love is the next Rodgers or anything close to it. I think the Packers are making a big mistake if they don’t try and make something happen before Rodgers is gone. Of course this off-season should be pretty telling what the future direction of the team is.
  25. I guess it doesn’t really bother me. If someone wants to try and raise funds for college or a study abroad trip I don’t really see anything wrong. No one is threatening to murder you if you don’t contribute. If they meet their goal good for them, they have a lot of people who love them and have money to give. It was a little annoying when Gofundme first started gaining steam because it was a bit endless with what felt like everyone trying to fund something ridiculous.
