  1. Ryu has averaged 23 starts the last three years. For $20mil at his level of production that isn’t even bad at all. If he performed at that kind of level for three years, heck even two, and started 23 times for us every penny would be well spent (assuming the decline was gradual). Point is he is so elite when pitching $20mil for 23 starts wouldn’t even be bad. In the end odds are it’s a total disaster for a contract, but it was a risk the Brewers could have easily made. If he stays elite for a few years that will really be unfortunate because there was our way to get an upper echelon performer on the mound. I’m okay not making the move because it was quite risky, but I wouldn’t have minded seeing it either.
  2. When you going to bring up the million times you were wrong after the fact?
  3. To be fair, he only played 47 games last year. I most appreciate his nearly 5:1 career K/BB ratio. He'll fit right in on the Brewers. My bad, I actually assumed he was a LHB too...he isn’t. People seem to talk up every hitter like Miller Park is going to make them some Babe Ruth/Ty Cobb clone. I end up assuming it is a lefty who may benefit from the generous right to right-center. Of course Miller Park isn’t really the little league field people think.
  4. He had an .800 OPS against RHP last year. Not a bad reserve at all. Honestly any reserve that can fill in and be 100 OPS+ level is fantastic.
  5. We once paid $7.5mil for 42 year old Trevor Hoffman. I feel like we could pay $10mil for Betances if we wanted him.
  6. Isn't this the case for any move not forced by an owner? What GM willingly pays more than they think a player is worth? I have yet to see a GM in the presser exclaim how bad the deal will be.
  7. He cannot play 3B.
  8. How did you get so lucky.
  9. Why not? We have plenty of payroll space...it isn't really that bad of an idea. Unless we magically get Donaldson we have more payroll space than we know what to do with at this point. Maybe you guys are thinking of Knebel who is not supposed to be ready until May. Which is why I find it incredible everyone is so high on him being a massive impact this year. He may be rusty and let down a lot of hopefuls.
  10. It is $10mil not $35mil. It fills a need too. Now the cripple trio of Braun/Cain/Garcia can cover part of the OF and Braun can be the RH portion of a platoon at 1B. I don't think they are hoping for him to be more than an .800 OPS, but this isn't shelling out much money or commitment.
  11. Annnnnnnnnnnnnd
  12. Funny, I'm pretty sure we were watching the same Live PD (I think it was Friday night). I noticed the same thing and it bothered me even though it appeared the officer was getting GPS through their phone. I commented to my wife that it seems like it would not take advanced technology to equip the car so that dispatch could send the location of the situation directly to the car's computer and GPS directions would automatically be given without the officer having to look it up themselves on their phone. Or at least equip the car to accept voice commands. Haha probably, he was messing with his phone and he was like 1,000 feet from the scene. I think part of it is the fact is they are expected to know the streets etc. without looking it up in their area. Giving them a GPS is kind of defeating the purpose of truly knowing your area. Some departments do have software that will integrate it all together. Some have the old school Garmin..it depends. It is more relevant of an issue for the deputies as they will respond to a much larger area than a city officer.
  13. Just saw this today, going right at what I said: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/951515?adults=3&check_in=2019-12-29&check_out=2020-01-01&source_impression_id=p3_1576594535_7ME0u%2Fuo3gDt%2BhxS
  14. Even in his unreal 2017 year he barely got there...so I don't think this is a very easy feat for poor Garcia.
  15. There is no way the Brewers suppress his ABs to make it a team option...not unless we never want to sign another FA again. Either he makes it or doesn't. We won't want him around if we screwed him over like that. As far as people assuming Braun will get a lot of time at 1B...it is kind of logical. The Brewers already said they have talked to Braun about a larger role at 1B. He makes sense as a RHB of a platoon and this move crams the OF. He will most certainly not be their with out a partner and due to injuries in the OF probably won't be at 1B even half the time.
  16. $24mil is he is good and a third year is added on. I think this topic has come up before, but I’d much rather have a pitcher who is elite 5 months and horrid one month instead of the guy who is essentially average every month. I think they could end up similar, but personally Wade Miley definitely has a higher ceiling. Miley has also been really durable over his career, Anderson not so much. Making the assumption we could have brought him back on similar terms (maybe true or maybe not) I would have easily taken Miley...but that is just me.
  17. Wade Miley was incredible outside of a horrid September. I think it is a solid deal for the Reds. Doesn’t take much to be worth that as a starter and the last two years show he can be a lot more than good at times.
  18. Thread prediction: “Wow would have loved to have Miley at that cheap price!” “We don’t know he would have come here even if we made the same offer, maybe he really wanted to go be with Derek Johnson again.”
  19. We have heard what he thinks, we know what everyone else thinks. I think we got it guys. Let’s get on with something else. It’s getting really old. Figure out when you aren’t going to change someone stance or get together at a local bar to bicker.
  20. Yah I am hardly going to lose sleep overpaying a 28 year old $4mil per year the next two years. That is like...nothing. That is if someone really wants to look at it as overpaying. 1-2 year deals are just not much of a hinderance on things.
  21. Yes but Braun would be replacing mostly Eric Thames. To me that's a wash, and this is a straight upgrade from Braun to Garcia plus the added value of moving Yelich back to LF. I don’t think Braun is as good as Thames as a 1B, but to each their own. Braun’s short time at 1B certainly did not reflect very good defense. If it was anywhere near Thames level I feel as though we would have seen them more often.
  22. Many states allow any normal person to use a device for emergencies, reporting accident, dangerous driver, etc. It isn’t like they are sitting there on Facebook, a lot of necessary information goes through that computer. Many departments also utilize their phone for official business...so them on their cellphone doesn’t automatically mean they are texting their girlfriend about their date night. As far as speeding etc., again, there are many reasons they will drive fast etc. and are actually going somewhere in a hurry. Also driving faster than the flow of traffic is a way to make contact with as many motorists as possible. In some areas there are enforcement officials specifically looking for distracted/aggressive drivers. How do they catch people on their phone? Coming up from behind and passing on the side. Do some text and drive? Yah. Do some drive like douches? Yah. That isn’t automatically the case in those situations though. Watch some LIVE PD in your free time and you will quickly understand some of the stuff people complain about is them trying to respond to calls. I was watching an episode the other day and the officer had to use his phone to use as a GPS. I’m sure any other motorist would assume he was trying to text and drive...really was just trying to figure out how to get to the scene.
  23. Yelich in RF may help, but all it does is send Braun to first base where he won’t be a good fielder either. I don’t think there is much defensive improvement in the grand scheme.
  24. Not sure defensive decline is a huge concern for a 29 year old.
