  1. What exactly you think they are spending money on? Rotation appears pretty darn set, not like we are going to spend big on the bullpen, bench is pretty full, and the offense will be full outside of 3B. How much will we spend on a 1B that will platoon with Braun and a 3B?
  2. Price tag doesn’t shock me at all. I will hold judgement till they find a lefty first baseman and whatever they decide for third. There are many more moving pieces to this deal. Braun/Thames at first could be real nice (a few other attractive LHB platoon partners) and if they get something for 3B (not Urias) then I like the offense they constructed...not a bad move at all. Hopefully he hits at Miller Park and has an OPS over .800.
  3. Really should be in transaction thread, but no, no one would likely take the contract. Gold glove defense is never that hard to find...it is when that guy provides offense that makes them harder to find. Not saying he can’t or won’t rebound, but he is going to be 34. That age also raises questions about how much longer he can actually be a GG defender and his durability. He just isn’t that attractive. Not worthless, but certainly not 3 year commitment worthy off a down year at 33.
  4. I think number of years is more of a problem than actual yearly salary. It isn’t hard to get creative and make a 3-4 year deal work. They may not sign a Ryu/Donaldson, but contract wise that is a lot different than trying to fit a Rendon into the payroll.
  5. The Brewers will add someone major. I am starting to wonder if Josh Donaldson is a real possibility. I just don't see them cutting payroll so much it is under $100mil. That's beyond cutting payroll...that just looks terrible.
  6. Not a bad deal, especially with the deferred money. I’m okay with not going after him, wasn’t confident he would pitch well at Miller Park.
  7. Garcia is a corner OFer and Moose is a 3B which is a substantial difference. Now I don’t think García is a lone move...as in I don’t think it simply shifts Braun to 1B. That makes it a bit complicated to figure the overall offense impact, but Moustakas offense is a bit more impressive considering the position he plays.
  8. I would rather just pay Ryu. Kluber is a big gamble and not cheap. Ryu would be the better bet to be an ace if we were looking to get a bigger risk player in hope of elite pitching. Both are probably too risky for the Brewers blood.
  9. Packers should honestly be ashamed for constructing this receiving corps. It hasn’t even improved as the year has gone on. They simply suck. They pretty much need at least 2 WRs in the offseason. MVS can be a #4...I’m good with that.
  10. Not a ton of history of true prospects sales. Toussaint comes to mind, I’m really not much of a fan unless the owner really wants to burn profits when we absolutely suck. Competing? Yah, that’s a weird way to waste payroll. Odds are that money is totally wasted. Belt/Seager aren’t exactly salary dumps either.
  11. Just saw this: This deal is more than the Pirates have handed out in the last 25 years in free agency (touch under $300mil).
  12. Guessing the Brewers may find him acceptable enough to play CF occasionally. He has logged 10-30 games there depending on the year. If you make him the 4th outfielder and have Braun play a good chunk of a platoon at 1B with someone that is probably a nice chunk of ABs. Especially with the injuries Braun/Cain will endure. He would be more like a 3.5rdth outfielder.
  13. Heyman reports we are one of three teams in on García. Maybe not as close as first reported.
  14. Do you think the team has even the slightest of care if Hader wanted to start? Pretty much any pitcher wants to start. That is where longevity, long term deals, and huge contracts are. Man, always negative. This is a story we hear all the time that teams and players have discussions and if a player wants to try to transition to starting, the team may allow it as an experiment. It often doesn’t seem to work (Scott Williamson), but sometimes does (Derek Lowe). Lol, okay dude. Always negative, good one. Guys who do that are nowhere near the level Hader is. Brewers didn’t give him a chance before he was a reliever, it won’t suddenly happen now. Hader wanted to start before, obviously the Brewers did not let him try.
  15. Not sure how I’d feel about this. At minimum we better be getting 2019 García. Anything worse is going to be real crummy, especially if this is requiring decent money on a multi year deal. He just has very little track record and probably is just a guy in the line up. Not good...not bad. Of course people will dream of 2017 García, but pretty unlikely. We could have had Thames/Braun. Is this really better? I’m not so sure. This puts a lot of pressure on Braun to be good at 1B and to be honest it was not very good the first time. Wonder if García may be able to bounce around between the OF and 1B. Possible platoon with a LHB at 1B. This move is very meh to me at face value if it ends up true. I guess I see it unlikely García pushes Braun to 1B for the majority of the time...gotta be getting something better than that for 1B. Because it just seems we could do better than García in the OF and Braun at 1B.
  16. My complaint last year was the lack of experience and stability. Which doesn’t need to cost a ton of money. While everyone said Anderson (Chase) sucked and wanted to dump him pre 2018 I told people he would easily end up one of the Top 5 guys come season end. There was so much inexperience someone was destined to fail and Anderson (a reliable starter) would take someone’s place. The problem this year is we don’t have that. Suter would be the closest thing ready to step in. Personally I would like three pieces considered reliable/experienced. Woodruff is one, Lauer is another, and preferably the third would be a solid mid rotation guy. I really don’t think Brett Anderson is that. All I am saying is I hope it ends up a little better. I don’t have a huge problem rolling the dice and then fixing in July...but consistently that is wasting resources and costing wins. It is very troublesome when they end up like Peralta/Burnes/Chacin and throw BP. There is offseason left and money to spend. We will see what they do. They may still add to the rotation or dramatically improve the offense.
  17. How is making the playoffs deemed not working out? Because I believe there are 25 guys on a roster (more than that make an impact every year I suppose). Just because a a bunch of them did, doesn’t mean all 25 were automatically a success. I guess Travis Shaw worked out? We made the WC game. I didn’t say the team didn’t work out, I was speaking purely towards the opening day rotation. He made great additions, but let’s not ignore we could have had Lyles and Gio the entire season etc. He constructed a poor rotation to start the season, it just wasn’t good. He gave young unproven guys a chance and 2/3 were total flops. All I am saying is I hope he constructs a rotation this year that is actually good from the start and we don’t lose countless games for months trotting out 7 ERA pitchers until we give up on them and/or use assets to replace them.
  18. Woodruff is a top of the rotation arm and I think Houser will surprise people this year (if he didn't last year). Everyone just wants the big name. For example, take these two pitchers: Pitcher A 195 IP / 3.96 ERA / 3.48 FIP / 1.259 WHIP / 9.0 K9 / 2.3 BB9 Pitcher B 111 IP / 3.72 ERA / 3.88 FIP / 1.240 WHIP / 9.5 K9 / 3.0 BB9 Pitcher A is Zack Wheeler and he just signed a $118 million contract Pitcher B is Adrian Houser and he will make about $600k this year Stop listening to ESPN and MLB Network. They only talk about the big names and lead you to believe that signing those guys is the only way to build a good rotation. It's not. You should probably use Houser’s stats only as a starter so as to not have inaccurate results that are misleading.
  19. One thing kind of ignored so far it seems: Stearns is constructing an atrocity of a defense so far and just signed one of the biggest contact pitchers there is. To me it is an interesting selection for the team because of that. We will see what is stuck at 3B and 1B, but I doubt they are great defenders. (Please note the SO FARs, as there is offseason and players left). I will hold out hope for a bigger rotation addition that pushes one of these guys to the bullpen. As it seems though Stearns is not much of a guy to invest in the rotation...so that is unlikely. Guess we will see if it works out this year, surely didn’t last year. I think these iffy starter additions are a sign they expect Hader/Suter/Knebel/Peralta/Burnes to be an elite pen and rely heavy on it.
  20. #2? We must really be in rebuild mode if he is the second best pitcher we got. Lol
  21. The rotation they wound up using last year, if you can call it that, looked like a 56-win team without context. They're going to end up starting 10 different guys anyway. This is just another guy, I wouldn't read into it. Yah and that rotation ended up a huge joke for the most part (the opening day one). Burnes/Peralta were worthless and Chacin flopped. We won't have a guy like Chase to save the day for one of the spots either if someone blows. There isn't really much depth. That is especially concerning when you are going to role with a rotation that is made up of poor track records, inexperienced, and may have some injury history. Yah, we can acquire guys in July, but that is 3-4 months of baseball you go through before that time. Poor performance out of the starters is going to cost a lot of wins in that case.
  22. For the record I said I would have spent money on Moustakas over the Seager trade proposed...if those were the options. I wouldn't do either...just saying if I was spending $15mil I would have gotten Moustakas. Would it? Sure, but as I pointed out I am not entirely sure he actually bounced back. Kind of hiding his poor play the majority of the year with a fluke hot streak that doesn't indicate his truer production level.
  23. 1) Woodruff 2) Lauer 3) Houser 4) Anderson 5) Lindblom I really hope this is not the final plan to be the rotation cause that's just plain gross. I like all the cheap additions and low risk signings, but they have one guy who is a proven starter and then a bunch of guys you would expect a 90 loss team to trot out there. That just does not sound promising.
  24. If he was exposed to the Rule 5 draft and mashed at AAA clearly the Rockies value him at a price similar to a bag of balls. If we want him so bad just go trade a bag of balls right now and you won't be subject to him needing to be on the 26 man roster all year. Even better than drafting him in the Rule 5 draft.
  25. Do you think the team has even the slightest of care if Hader wanted to start? Pretty much any pitcher wants to start. That is where longevity, long term deals, and huge contracts are.
