  1. I would be concerned with positional attachment if Didi was going to get a long term deal from us, but it sounds like if we end up with him it is a one year prove it deal. In that case all I give a crap about is constructing the best offense we can because we aren't shelling out $40mil+ to have him man 3B. It just isn't a concern at that point. Long term, yes, I think positional attachment matters. Short term, I don't think it has any meaning.
  2. Ron Dayne made $30k in 2016, wasn't on payroll for 2018. There is no chance he would come back and win the Heisman. Lets be honest, he can't even get Top 4. I am not sure what insane stats would be required for him to actually win these days. We would likely be serious CFP contenders with him on the squad next year (easy schedule). Not point in dreaming though. It was a fun 3 years, but we should be happy to have a player who won't come back for their senior year. That usually means they were a heck of a player for us.
  3. *clears throat* Ummmmmm …. NO
  4. Assuming he retires a Brewer. I can see him playing a couple extra years, possibly as a DH for an American League team. If he is willing to take a pay cut, I'm sure there will be a market for his bat... Isn’t he soon to have three kids? He at least has two already. I’m pretty confident he will call it a career unless a LA or other California team offers him a contract. Even then he may not. I don’t think he wants to play that badly or the possible drama of moving teams. Seems like a prime guy to just step away when the time makes sense, but who knows.
  5. Just because it is a spendier offseason doesn’t mean everyone will be. Some flashy names have gotten nice contracts...I’m sure it will even out and of course some will get way less than anticipated. Just how the game goes. Im not sure where Didi fits into that, but I would assume he will get more.
  6. It doesn’t matter. However long term it would not make a ton of sense. If it is a stopgap plan whatever, but you are getting terrible value while you have that setup. Didi isn’t a great hitting 3B if that was his hypothetical spot. Now I’m a big proponent of “big picture” with the offense and not getting caught up in where it comes from, but we would be getting Didi from FA where we will be bidding against teams that value him as a SS. That doesn’t seem like a great idea if our plan is Urias/Didi on the left side...unless Didi came real cheap...or of course there was something else to the plan.
  7. Wait, Hiura at 3B. Pretty sure he would have a shot at worst defender in MLB history. He can’t play 2B and struggles making throws to 1B. Across the diamond? Oh my. :roll eyes Highly doubt he would be the "worst defender in MLB history" and from my perspective his arm has not been his biggest problem at 2B. 3B is down the defensive spectrum from 2B in my view. I kinda wish it would happen cause I feel your thoughts on that would quickly change. Remember when the Brewers tried Villar at 3B? Villar was better at SS compared to 3B by miles. Villar was REALLY bad and Villar is a gold glover compared to Hiura defensively. Hiura isn’t moving to a different position unless there is some off chance they would try to stick him at 1B (or LF at some point I suppose, though his arm is a wet noodle). Personally they may just find Didi a good value sign (not getting the offers expected) and while it may logjam the short term they may figure someone would eventually be traded (Urias/Hiura). I guess I’d be perplexed just because to sign Didi in FA you’d be playing him at SS. It doesn’t make a ton of sense to give him a bunch of money to play 3B. Unless of course they plan to trade someone this offseason or sometime in the near future. Or of course a 1B/LF move, not 3B.
  8. Wait, Hiura at 3B. Pretty sure he would have a shot at worst defender in MLB history. He can’t play 2B and struggles making throws to 1B. Across the diamond? Oh my.
  9. Are people really complaining about how much a pro athlete makes? Sigh
  10. Yes. I get that. In reference to Suppan&Lohse it is that you are buying in to them at their highest value at the time. And in Kuechel his value isnt at its highest. Ryu would be a great get. But I'm in the feelings now he's going to cost at least 4-80. Also I figure Ryu would have certain destinations in mind and Milw wouldn't be one even if we came at him for 4-96 being a foreign player and all. I don’t get the “highest value” comment. This isn’t the highest value ever for either of these guys. What should matter is predicted future value. For all we know Keuchel is all downhill from here. Keuchel may be cheaper, but he may also be worth a lot less over the course of the contract.
  11. Ryu would be the highest upside guy...if we are going purely on upside. Not sure I want Bumgarner at his current asking price (possibly 5/$100mil or more). He has been churning out 200+ innings since 21. Maybe he can still be TOR worthy, but he easily might be done already.
  12. I remember getting laughed at by a few when I said Cole was going to get 7+ years. Haha....even Strasburg is getting that. 8/$280 may be the magic number.
  13. The support for the Brewers is not even remotely close to tepid unless they are competing. The Brewers rank #4 in the NL for attendance since 2007. Only the Cubs, Cardinals, Giants, and Phillies are higher. The Phillies are the ones depending on competing. They drew 3.6mil in their golden years not too long ago, but in recent years couldn't sell 2mil tickets three years in a row. Including the AL I think they may be #7. The only teams in the AL that have drawn more since 2007 are probably Boston. Angels, and Yankees. The interest and attendance the Brewers have is nothing short of incredible. Props to Selig getting a retractable roof, Attanasio/Melvin turning the franchise around, and Stearns continuing to keep them relevant.
  14. Well he'd have had to go 10+ per start to reach 200 in 2019. I think he was about on pace if he had 33starts. I don't think you can assume that though. He only played half a season. Much easier to avoid ticky tack injuries (or even moderate ones) when you skip half the year. Maybe if he was a perennial 200 inning guy you could assume that, but 2/3 of the previous three years we was notably far from 200 innings.
  15. Has Rickie Weeks been retired long enough yet?
  16. So a bunch of stats that take into consideration a season three years ago that is a big outlier compared to the last two. Which, in my opinion, is relevant with a pitcher going into his mid 30s. You then talk about 200 innings even though Keuchel has done it once in the last four years. Brewers don't let starters throw that much anyway.
  17. UCF actually went undefeated two years in a row, neither time did they have much of a real shot at the CFP. The second year featured a lot more dominating wins than the 13-0 season. It is funny Utah was set to make it this year beating the #17 and #13 teams, but UCF couldn't go 25-0 over two seasons and make it. UCF beat #22 and #16 in their first undefeated regular season. Is what it is. If you aren't in a major conference you ain't going without dominating almost every week. Maybe partly fair, but kind of unfortunate.
  18. That is what I thought, Romo seemed a bit perplexed by it.
  19. Id love 8 teams, but consistently 5-8 just don’t really prove their worth. They really just aren’t forcing the issue.
  20. I find age to be a strange reason to go Ryu over Keuchel Obviously I was referring to Bumgarner. Regardless both are a bit more than a midrotation guy. Who with aging may just be a back end guy. I think Ryu ages well and I don’t find him a huge injury...a risk, but not as big as he is made out to be. I mean people are getting pumped if Keuchel is our #2, talk about a disaster waiting to happen.
  21. It’s never going to feel the same again because odds are if the make the Rose Bowl it means the we’re oh so close to the CFP. Which is somewhat the case this year.
  22. They used the first timeout and challenge on a horrid spot on the Chiefs drive where the fumble happened. They gave the Chiefs a first down and marked them on the 40 yard line (39 was the first down). The Chiefs player looked like he may have gotten the first so they thought it was close enough to challenge. Of course it didn’t get overturned and by some odd rule or more terrible reffing in the game they didn’t move the ball at all even though their spotting was horrendous regardless of if he got the first down or not. Again, maybe by rule all you get to challenge is if it is a first down or not. If it is you just get whatever the spot was even if it sucked. It just added to the pile of other terrible calls in the game. Felt like every other play they missed something or called something really strange. Maybe the worst officiating all year I have seen. They didn’t seem sure whether he got in or stepped out. In that case they really should just call it a touchdown and let the quick replay figure it out for sure. Instead they open up the door for a game altering poor call.
  23. I think: Rose Bowl > Specific Opponent I suppose there are flashier opponents, but the Rose Bowl against a garbage bag is better than anything else. Rose Bowl is essentially the holy grail for a Wisconsin fan.
  24. It ends up ruining a great game. Patriots forced to go for a TD when they should have really been going for a field goal. Solid job by the zebras. How many calls you gotta blow in that game? Just gross.
  25. Refs rob the Patriots of a scoop and score calling the offensive runner down (he wasn’t) and then incorrectly called them out on the three yard line later on in the drive...he wasn’t out and actually got the TD. Unfortunately the Patriots were already out of challenges because of the absolutely terrible refs so they couldn’t challenge. Drives dies and they have to kick a FG. They then incorrectly called a TD catch soon after, just kidding it wasn’t, and then the Patriots were scrambling back onto the field and had to take a timeout. What a joke. Just like that the Patriots have no timeouts cause the refs are dumb and lost 4 points.
