  1. I’ve mulled refinancing my student loans and cutting the repayment time in half. Just not sure the savings are really worth nearly double the monthly payment. I can’t really save anything simply refinancing under the same length terms as 5% isn’t terribly high as is. As far as a 529, I recently started one. I think that is more valuable than trying to pay down my loans faster. The growth and all the little quirks that save money should outweigh the interest you pay on your own student loans. As someone mentioned you can start one without kids and you can transfer it between kids too. It only locks up money when they hit 18 and it becomes theirs.
  2. Is that how it works? Does the runner up automatically go if OSU is in the playoff? (Almost certain). Or can they pick another team from the East? Next best team, so yes...they could pick Penn State. Problem is you basically have to assume Minnesota or Wisconsin wins their next two games and Penn State will lose against OSU. That puts them all at two losses if Wisconsin wins. Wisconsin would definitely have the upper hand over Minnesota at that point and Wisconsin probably ranks over Penn State at that point to. I doubt they penalize Wisconsin for getting railed by OSU a second time in the championship game while everyone else is idle. Wouldn’t shock me though. To me it is either Minnesota or Wisconsin...or at least should.
  3. I could see them banking on a Shaw rebound if they upgrade SS. If Shaw fails it is a much easier position to upgrade or find a replacement.
  4. And they are probably the same fans still banking on Arcia suddenly becoming a .750+ OPS bat All Star.
  5. I’m kinda surprised that roster is only $130mil to be honest. It’s not a bad plan, but the obvious concern would be a pretty bad starting rotation. Woodruff is good (maybe even really good) and Davies is a fine piece, but past that you have a whole lot of question marks. Lyles was great for us to end last year, but he was shaky overall last year. Gio is okay, but the Brewers always seemed to view him as a very short leash starter. Houser/Burnes/Peralta are all very questionable as starters. Any one of them in the rotation to start the year is probably not a great sign, especially when you consider it only gets shakier from there with injuries. I think, ideally, Houser is also in the pen. That gives you Hader, Peralta, Houser, Pomeranz, Suter, and Knebel as a real strong group leading the pen. I am okay with Gio and Lyles...but I don’t think I want Burnes/Peralta/Houser touching the last spot. I would probably go Suter over all those guys unless they showed something to give one more confidence in them. That is of course assuming the above happened and affording another FA starter is pretty much out of the question.
  6. Darvish claimed Brewers/Yelich of cheating: https://mobile.twitter.com/ChristianYelich/status/1195462269594812417 EDIT: After reading the Darvish tweet and what he responded to I don’t think he was necessarily saying the Brewers were cheating. Just that he stepped off cause Yelich’s eyes moved first. The tweet Darvish was clarifying on (what he did) was basically claiming the Brewers were cheaters...think Darvish kinda got caught in the middle.
  7. Mason Rudolph is already having a shaky start to his career...he isn’t good enough to start such a thing. He would end up like Colin Kaepernick real quick. Even if not that would be a slippery slope.
  8. The voting system is a joke...only one vote for Kevin Pillar? Unreal.
  9. Suter, Hiura, and Woodruff will be on hand Monday for a short period of time to sign autographs at the grand reopening. I am guessing they are also in Milwaukee to be apart of the unveiling of the new uniforms...aka model. Just a hunch. They will have special giveaways all week featuring random junk you don't need if you spend $150+. Also a better gift package for a limited number of people that buy an authentic jersey first.
  10. They will sign one of them. They aren’t going to cut $30mil in payroll between these two, dump Anderson, and dump Thames to sign neither of these guys. Unless you think they will spend big on a pitcher (I doubt this) they will spend some cash on one of them. Signing neither would simply equate to way too much of a drop in payroll when they are heavily competing. That just is not something Attanasio would allow.
  11. Japanese league limits two foreign players as a max per team...I believe to Korean league is 3 players. I am not sure how many of those spots are filled on any given year. I was checking various Japanese teams and it looks like they all carry their max foreign player limit. I kept finding three per team, but I swear the limit was 2. Maybe some don't get classified as foreign...who knows. I didn't check Korean rosters...so not sure if they also typically carry their limit. Regardless, many players do exactly what you are talking about...but thus, limits exist from those countries being taken over by foreign talent. EDIT: I checked the Korean league. They have 10 teams and there were about 37 foreign players the past season that saw the field. So it seems they also carry the max. So basically any player willing to do it has to wait for a limited spot to open up.
  12. Yah, the reaction among people/players is really bad. With how sensitive the NFL is to public opinion I somewhat expect a season ending suspension. They will look like valiant heroes for taking him out. We are already so far into the season the 4-6 minimum you would expect is close enough to the end of the year you may as well just drop the hammer. At the same time Burfict gave quite a few serious brain injuries to people before they gave him that treatment. Different context as it was during the game, but intention was the same.
  13. It isn't an injustice at all. Bellinger was better, he played in 156 games to 130, and he led his team to October baseball. September is the biggest month in baseball and often makes/breaks a teams season. Sorry, but Yelich was missing in action when it mattered most...it just doesn't look good when voting for the MVP award. Of course that isn't everything, but in a close race where the other guy was already arguably better it is not going to help. I think this would have been an incredibly close vote had he stayed healthy...especially considering they may have been NL Central champs on another crazy September run. It didn't happen though and he rightfully got 2nd place. It was a shame an incredible MVP race all season long got decided prematurely on a broken knee cap.
  14. Rudolph deserves a suspension himself for trying to take a players helmet off....or at least a fine of some sort. To be honest he got what he deserved as far as getting his helmet ripped off...maybe dragging him around like a rag doll was a bit much, but I think he definitely had it coming his way after he tried to do the same. Now hitting him with the helmet...quite inexcusable. That just not right and should come with a lengthy suspension. Though I do think it is interesting that just because this was after a play the entire NFL community is up in arms about he could have died etc....yet fans/players rarely bat an eye on the vicious and intentional helmet to helmet hits every week. The biggest concern is the 15 yard penalty going for/against you. Not the fact those are the worst injuries in football and lead to long term brain injuries. Just assault people with your helmet during the play....all good then.
  15. I was thinking the same. Just a pathetic PR move they don’t even really need to do. Just weird.
  16. They lose their pick for signing him. They may get one for Donaldson, but that has absolutely nothing to do with their decision to sacrifice a pick to sign Smith. Calling it a wash really isn’t the proper way to look at it.
  17. Wait...your suppose to clean a coat...
  18. Someone had Bellinger...5th!!! Freeman comically had a #2 vote Both those insane votes were from the same dude. He had Rendon first, freeman second, and Arenado third. On another note 2/2 Cub voters and 1/2 Cardinal voters picked Yelich...so that conspiracy against Counsell can probably be taken out back and shot.
  19. Good choice by Abreu. Massively overrated 32 year old 1B. Probably not a terrible idea for Odorizzi either.
  20. Likely sets up Pomeranz to get about $10mil annually. I doubt Pomeranz demands a deal as good as Smith who has a lengthy track record of success.I know many don't expect him to get 3 years, but I think he could. Probably talking a $20mil-$30mil commitment over 2-3 years.
  21. For what it is worth the Red Sox did this exact thing in 2017 themselves. They were simply fined for the occurrence in the Aug/Sept range of that year. Manfred said there would be more serious penalties in the future. Considering this Astros incident(s) happened in 2017 also I would venture to guess a slap on the wrist is incoming.
  22. You can only use it on one TV for that price...and I didn't even think you got HD at that price point, I could be mistaken though.
  23. Sounds like you are the new owner of a single seat 4-pack.
  24. I vote we just change to the players weekend uniform fulltime, every single day. Nothing to complain about if you can't see it.
  25. I have to go to Madison next Monday to get my work computer updated. An IT guy has to visit the other offices (Madison/Chicago) once a month...many of the Madison based people are remote. You would think they would communicate so the IT guy visits when we all come into the office anyway. Nope, he usually comes a few days before/after us. We were all just there a few weeks ago and will be there a few weeks after this for the annual party. Probably could have been scheduled for then, but thus, what do I know. So moral of the story a handful of people have to drive 3 or so hours at about $500 per person in costs...to update their computer.
