  1. So basically before the skid 7-3?
  2. We either got him or didn’t at this point.
  3. He was never on a bust list. Guys who are picked 5th in the draft who hit 240 with way too many strike outs and don't play solid D aren't on the elite list. His draft placement is completely irrelevant. Are those stats elite if you are a 40th rounder? Why would that make them any better or worse? Years later and you are still stuck on where he was drafted. That is a rookie evaluation mistake.
  4. Reasons he lost: 1) He was terrible. A lot of wasted balls. 2) He hits it high. Not only that, but high outs. He can’t get another pitch until it lands.
  5. 100% agree. Who cares how long it took, liked that system so much better. Aguilar has sucked, but the broadcast made a good point. He hits them high and basically has no chance now. Why are we punishing high majestic bombs?
  6. I predict a terrible showing by Aguilar. I was a fan of the out system to be honest. I know it took long, but seemed better.
  7. I get a good laugh out of all of these jokes at his expense, then I laugh harder knowing he reads them. He did it for the attention and to have people thinking about him. He probably likes when people bring him up and make jokes.
  8. Gotta be some interest to talk about Aguilar and the HR Derby. Figure I will put it in the MLB forum so people see it and the mods can pin it, then move it.
  9. I love your post for two reasons: Your joke is ridiculously long Your joke is sadly accurate.
  10. So hypothetical: Let’s say we acquire Machado (whether you want us to or not), what do you hope Stearns does afterwards before July 31st? Because to me Machado isn’t really a stand-alone move and I’d be curious to see what others would hope the additional moves would include. (And no, hoping for no additional moves because you didn’t want Machado in the first place is not a logical post-Machado plan)
  11. They refuse to go conventional any other spot in the game, but then suddenly the 9th roles around and it must be Knebel. It’s brutal to watch.
  12. That’s two pretty expensive rental bats. Dozier is starting to turn it on and I am sure they will wait till the end of July to trade him. That gives a historical second half player an entire strong month (hypothetical) to solidify his value. That would make just an insane line-up down the stretch. If you assume Dozier is an All Star type bat in the second half, wow.
  13. This might very well be the right play. Nine AL teams are out of it already. Five or six NL teams are out of it. We could get nice improvements in the middle infield at a much cheaper prospect price than Manny. Wait until August and we could get something for practically nothing- just pay him and a throw in. The tricky part is that avg players might just get us what we got last year... a little shy of the playoffs. If they get Machado I would like to see them then upgrade catcher to make that at least an average hitter. I think Brad Miller is an average hitter so that would leave us with a line-up loaded with 4 All Star hitters, Shaw, and then two average guys (2B and C) to round it out. Once guys get healthy that also gives us a pretty nice looking bench too. Maybe you go get someone to solidify the rotation or bullpen on the cheap too? All that wouldn’t kill the farm at all. Maybe you lose a few decent ones getting Machado, but for the other few addition it will mostly be “meh” prospects we are just filled with to the brim. Not like we are trading the farm to get DeGrom. I’m definitely expecting more moves if they end up with Machado. Machado alone would be insulting. If Stearns wants him, go for it, but best not end there.
  14. I’m probably not the only person wondering why we even have a “closer” so to speak. Just pitch these guys whenever it makes sense. Knebel has left a lot to be desired this year. Hopefully Burnes can really solidify himself into a major role here quickly. That would fix a lot of the problems we face. Taylor Williams is also a guy who could play a big role in the second half. I hope Knebel is moved out of his 9th inning duty where a manager suddenly refuses to remove said player until they blow up. We need to pull Knebel if he doesn’t have it.
  15. I’d go Brewers or Phillies. 1) Both have been rumored favorites for days now 2) Massive need for both teams 3) Both have the kind of prospects it will take 4) Both hungry to make the playoffs Sometimes it just makes too much sense and it happens...this is one of those times. Dodgers might be a dark horse and not sure I buy into the Yankees interest. If the Brewers can get it done without Burnes, Peralta, and Hiura I will predict them. I don’t think Stearns has panicked in the last couple days and I believe he wants that big splash if the price isn’t crazy. I’ve got to be honest though, historically when we get tied to a player a bunch I feel like it never comes to fruition. Though that may have to do with that only happening with big ticket players and obviously you don’t get those players more often than not.
  16. Not much. Unless we get Machado I don’t expect any additions. We should see some players move over the break, but not sure we get any of them.
  17. What is a Jerry Hairston Jr. going to accomplish? That’s basically what Brad Miller is. We don’t need another average hitter.
  18. Then we need to add and make sure we win the wild card. Not only that, but have the best team possible. Cause if we are just going to tread water until the Cubs aren’t good anymore likely case we aren’t anymore either. I don’t get this logic where if we can’t win the division we just pack our bags up or add just enough to maybe get a wild card. Then have a not great team that likely flops in the wild card game or the divisional series. Good luck waiting for the division to open up. Sounds like a solid plan to be a middling team for years. I don’t really want to try and make a World Series run from the wild card play in, but gotta do it however you can. And that isn’t to say sell the farm, but I don’t see why we can’t make good trades to improve. Machado isn’t anywhere near selling the farm. I guess I also don’t understand why the Cubs having disappointing players means they are likely to rebound and get better, but our struggling players are just going to continue to be dissapointing. Classic pessimism looking at your own team, but see optimism in the outside.
  19. It’s not like this losing streak has been a straight disaster. The starters have done well, bullpen hasn’t really been bad at all, and today we got screwed by the umpires in the rain just as much as Counsell. Most of the problem was the offense which Machado would greatly help and there would be additional moves. We also have a ton of offensive guys on the DL making our line-up horrendous lately. I think it would be a mistake to give up on this squad. I think we can still win the division, I’m not panicking. I don’t see any problem going after Machado or anyone else. Selling is just hysterical...sorry, but that is just ridiculous to propose. It’s just not happening no matter how much you believe in it. Of course all the reactionary negative thinkers will push not to do anything or sell. It’s a clever stance to take. Either you are right and bang your drum...or you are wrong (we make the postseason/win the division) and no one cares who is wrong. Win-win End of the day I don’t think this last week tells the long term outlook at all. No one week should make you decide things.
  20. Yah and we were a really good team going into series against MIA and PIT...how did that work? They might be the worst teams in the NL the next two weeks for all we know.
  21. They are 19-21 since June 1st. Hardly reactionary. Reactionary would be making a move to try to make a quick fix. That not even bad. Especially when you get to perfectly just fit in a big losing streak. Before this 6 game losing streak we were 19-15. That’s pretty good. Wait a week and it could be over .500. Hardly cause for concern.
  22. Now the entire break will be filled with “let’s sell” and “don’t make any moves” over mostly one game reactions. Because one bad week can make us sellers, but a good week is just a good week. Yay for all the reactionary posts!
  23. Agreed. Jennings threw one breaking ball and it almost went to the backstop. BS if you ask me. Everyone is constantly wiping their hands off, need a new ball every pitch, batter calling time to wipe his bat off and bring of helmet. I mean seriously? Why were we rushing to play and why did the umpire not call it? After that near wild pitch it should have been stopped. Clearly his pitches was being effected to the point he couldn’t even pitch anymore. Yet, play on?
  24. Blame Counsell? Blame the unpires. That is a joke. No reason to be playing in that. Unbelievable One hitter shouldn’t have been allowed to hit let alone two. Jennings could barely hold the ball let alone throw it.
