  1. I get being concerned over Thor’s recent injuries, but jeez talk about overblown. Just a name? Come on now. That guy is one of the better starters in the game when on the mound. That guy is going to pitch a lot in the next 3.5 years and put up better numbers than anyone we have right now by a mile. Again, if you think he is too unreliable for the assumed price totally get it. Let’s not act like the guy is on his 3rd elbow surgery and isn’t putting up elite stats when healthy though. I’m not sure who I would prefer if the price was similar. I’d almost roll the dice on Noah. The extra year of control would be beneficial and he is cheaper. Though I really can’t complain with three postseason runs with deGrom either. It would really come down to our success in those three years. If we win a World Series with deGrom anyone going to complain? Hiura can be the next great 2B bat for all I care. He could put us over the top. Or maybe not...that’s the risk. Don’t know what is better in the present.
  2. This argument that Sogard is comparable or even better than Miller is the greatest “using numbers that fit my stance” argument I have ever seen not by Clancy or Briggs.
  3. Pretty sure we usually do it the start of August after the deadline.
  4. Man I always see how draining the farm made us quickly suck after 2011. That was not the problem at all. Most of the players we traded flamed out into nothing. Lawrie, Escobar, and LaPorta...the three premium guys became nothing. Sure, Cain became pretty good and Brantley eventually became something. The real problem was terrible drafting, it was way past pathetic. Those trades hardly made a dent in our farm system and the results of the people who left were mostly zero. Our farm system turned to trash once we failed to draft well for half a decade straight causing little reinforcements from within. Heck the only reason, until recently, our farm system rebounded was by trading away talent...not actually developing it. If we kept those guys instead of trading them we would have had two sweet hitters and probably...zero postseason appearances.
  5. He just hasn’t done enough yet to generate meaningful trade capital. He’d be a nice third piece at this point and that would mean we would be selling low. Well you assume you are selling low. He isn’t an elite prospect and is only at Low-A, that is crazy far away from the MLB level. You could be selling before he is totally worthless in a year. I just see us propose a lot of deals loaded with near MLB ready talent. Not only do I find that a bit unrealistic, I also find it to be a poor idea. For instance Ray and Lutz are both ranked close to each other in prospect rankings. We would be better off offering Lutz in a deal if it’s all already loaded with some of our MLB ready players (multiple of Hiura, Burnes, Woodruff, and Peralta). Woodruff would also likely be valued pretty close to those two. Maybe it takes another low minor league piece then, but probably still a better idea then adding yet another near MLB piece. It’s better for our farm system and the risk we take on in a trade to diversify what we are offering. Upper and lower level talent...which many big trades do.
  6. I’m surprised Tristian Lutz never gets thrown out there in trade offers. Guy is often regarded as a Top 100 prospect or close to it. Seems like a solid guy to dangle to save some of our upper minor league talent.
  7. Yah, I want to know our record the last two days if we would have had Brett Phillips.
  8. Whit Merrifield 2016 - 81 Games - 1.7 WAR 2017 - 145 Games - 3.8 WAR 2018 - 74 Games - 2.0 WAR Yah, there are questions about him. He is older so that might tack his value when looking at the next 4 years. He will never be super old by any means. Yes, he doesn’t have a super long track record either...also isn’t a short track record by any means either. Like I said if it only takes those guys to get him we would be insane not to get him. Pretty sure 4 years down the road that trade would be great for us.
  9. You are nitpicking my definition of “huge risk”. I don’t disagree with what you are saying.
  10. Was hoping I’d be wrong, but my prediction was pretty much right on.
  11. Tyler Thornburg is closing in on his Red Sox debut. So much for that being a good trade.
  12. Didn’t say they didn’t. But thinking you are going to take a bunch of questionable value guys and throw them all together to get a 4 WAR player is a dream. You are starting with Burnes or Peralta. No way around that. If you are centering it around Woodruff and Phillips said team must value those guys a lot. Both of them are trending downward in general. The interest in Merrifield makes me wonder if the Brewers are as high on him as some fans are. Seems like a stretch that they are going to acquire Merrifield and then flip him in the winter to open up a spot for Hiura. Getting Merrifield = Hiura Traded...in my opinion. I doubt they would move either to a corner outfield spot.
  13. That would be utter highway robbery for Merrifield. Just looking at his stats he has a good bat and above average defense. That’s good for ~4 WAR a year. And we are going to get that for spare parts? He has 4.5 years of control! Yah, good luck with that. Merrifield will require one of Burnes/Peralta to lead a deal and it won’t be cheap. If we can get him without Peralta, Burnes, or Hiura why isn’t it being done yet?
  14. I'm curious where this *massive* risk comes from. His hit tool is rated higher than any prospect going back to the 2014 Top 100 list except for like 3 players. Everything about him screams 300+ hitter at the MLB level. His throwing program/arm have seen no setbacks and he's been playing the field every day for like 6-7wks now. It's easy to argue there's more risk adding Thor than there is keeping Hiura. Dude's thrown 95 innings since 2016 without having any elbow/shoulder injuries. I'm on board with gambling on talent like his but you don't do it using minimal risk guys like Hiura. He is a prospect and like all prospects are massive risks to never get to their ceiling. Even can’t miss guys constantly don’t become near what scouts thought. Sometimes it takes years to finally break out. What if it takes two years before he finally becomes a difference maker? At which point our core just falls apart? Is he all that valuable anymore. Huge risk, any prospect is.
  15. Any proof that would be a bad routine or effect him in the long run...at all? He really won’t be test strength wise until next year.
  16. Zero control and velocity doesn’t seem to be there. Long day is a coming.
  17. The guys a hitter. They’ll come around. He’s already made an impact. I don't think I'm that guy, but hanging your hat on a .240 lifetime hitter while talking how Sogard is garbage is showing us your bias. Sogard and Miller both are hanging on for dear life in the majors right now. Rick I am sure you know the difference between being 32 and 28. I also am pretty confident you understand average is a pretty terrible benchmark for offensive output. Cause honestly comparing Sogard to Miller is pretty brutal.
  18. Honestly you can throw all the numbers in the world out there. Many here are already penciling in Hiura as a perennial AS. So they probably have his surplus value near a quarter of a billion dollars. If someone falls in love with a prospect...they fall in love with a prospect. If they believe he is can’t miss there isn’t much negotiation.
  19. Hiura, Burnes, and Ray? Yah, I would have to pull the trigger on that. 3.5 years of an elite pitcher is hard to pass up. We only have to give up one guy that would “sting”. Not as concerned with the injury history. The guy can hit the DL a few times every year for all I care. He would still have a giant impact in the regular season and as long as he isn’t injured come October doubt I will shed many tears. Hiura is still a massive risk to not perform too ya know. I think I’d have to pull the trigger and take the risk on Noah. Might not work out, but Hiura/Burnes/Ray night not either. Also not sure how looking at Corey Ray’s stats in the box score is depressing. He is putting together a pretty solid season.
  20. THANK YOU But yes this is not giving Miller too much time at SS. Wilkerson probably stays up until Davies/Miley can return. Zag probably gets the boot when Saladino is ready (any day now) I’d keep Sogard over an extra garbage bullpen arm.
  21. Most thought he wasn’t going to pitch cause they WebMD’d his injury... then started acting like doctors even though put on the spot they probably couldn’t name another part of the shoulder outside of the muscle Nelson hurt (probably not even that one too). These people also have first hand information and must be on the Brewers medical staff. However if you don’t pretend to be a medical expert on an internet forum “you don’t know baseball or the injury”. This injury from the get go had a reasonable return date anywhere from late-May to the AS Break. So expecting him to pitch this year was not a crazy expectation and still certainly isn’t a crazy expectation. Now to pitch like a TOR starter? Yah, sure...coming off an injury that isn’t surprising. He still has plenty of time to get back this season. He is probably throwing a long distance from flat ground right now, but hasn’t gotten over the hump to pitch off the mound. Once that happens it only takes a month for him to be MLB ready. If we only want him as a reliever that could even be knocked down a little bit too I am guessing. He has an entire month to get onto a mound and still be ready for all of September. He has plenty of time so expecting him to still pitch this year seems legitimate to me.
