  1. Honestly can anyone remember the last tim Braun was healthy for more than three days in a row?
  2. Can't he just retire for his own health or something? One can dream. I'm kind of sick watching someone swing helplessly at the plate half the time because of some injury. If we DLed him when we probably should I am not even sure he would play in half our games. This year he started just 95 games in the field... I wouldn't be totally shocked if the Brewers got more aggressive in sitting him due to injury next year and DLed him more often. Lewis Brinson would outperform this years Braun on defense alone. I guess we will see how next year goes. If he is injured this often and playing crippled half the time when he actually does play they need to figure something out for the future. Since this was in another thread that really didn't fit, I thought I would move it here. Why can't Braun coexist with Brinson, Phillips, and Santana? He can and not saying it won't happen. If we assume Ryan Braun is quite similar next year as he was this year that creates a lot of problems. Neither Phillips nor Brinson would have to hit much to match that kind of production. If you negate Ryan Braun to the #4 role it could work out fine. It just would suck because Ryan Braun can only play LF. Though that wouldn't be a large problem if two of our OFers are Brinson/Phillips. One can just shift over from LF to CF/RF to replace someone not in the line-up. Really what I was getting at is if things don't prove the Brewers have to be committed to taking their $20mil former MVP man and putting him in a lesser role. Which is easier said than done sometimes. Ryan Braun already missed a solid 70 or so games this year in the field. That already gives Brinson/Phillips lots of ABs before taking into consideration other missed time in the OF. A four man rotation already seems inevitable next year.

  4. Eric Sogard - I seriously hope we find something better to sit on our bench. He is not very good. Matt Garza - Doesn't need explaining. Carlos Torres Oliver Drake Stephen Vogt - I think the Brewers go elsewhere for their back-up catcher. Probably someone without a terrible arm. Very on the fence about Keon Broxton. All this talk about OF depth, but who do you put as the 4th OFer? Do you really make Phillips or Brinson the 4th OFer where ABs will be a bit sporadic? I think there is a chance Keon Broxton stays as a 4th OFer. I think Jonathan Villar stays another year. I think Jonathan Villar stays. He had a good second half of the season and we don't have a solid 2B on the roster. Unless we find a long term solution(probably even more than Walker) I just don't see him being moved.
  5. He will get more than two years. I'd guess four is very possible. You also have to remember you will pay SS price for a guy you are about to stick at 2B. The lack of track record could lessen his asking price, but he was a elite SS this year. Someone will pay for that.
  6. There isn't much worse than wrapping up a near 100 loss season. The Giants entered day 162 ready to plan the #1 pick of the 2018 MLB Draft. Right up until Pablo Sandoval of all people came to the rescue walking off for a Giants win to avoid loss 99. Unfortunately the win wasn't exactly ending on a high note because the win caused the Giants to climb up the standings. Instead of the #1 pick they will now pick #2 behind the Tigers. Whoops.
  7. Your reasoning for Walker doesn't really make sense. He isn't that good and over the age of 30. We could easily sign him to what he will garner and not shed a single tear. Our payroll is so low and his contract would be so short it would create almost no future problem. Only way Walker doesn't come back is if we get someone better. Swarzak and Walker both seem like easy bets to return. Not that it would be crazy if they didn't.
  8. You can't compare how the Rockies are playing right now compared to how they might have played if still vying for a postseason spot. At this point the season is over and any results moving forward are not an accurate representation of how things would have still gone.
  9. 30TH PICK IN 2019!!!!!!!!
  10. It wasn’t meant to start anything nor be that negative but to reflect on how hard it was for this team to do what they did this season and the likely possibility that a lot of our players might not perform to this years performance. But I think you are asking a question that is better suited for the start of spring training. Hard to judge the overall of next year when it is likely major addition(in Brewers terms) are likely to be made.
  11. My gosh the offseason hasn't even started and the negativity is already here. Time to start an offseason optimism thread. We have almost unlimited payroll to play with and a loaded farm. Yet everyone wants to talk about potential losses instead of all the gains that are sure to happen.
  12. This is what I'm talking about. "Yippee, you got MVP numbers in 2011 for $4M." Yah that was great and a totally different contract. You can't make any comparison there.
  13. I don't understand the hand-wringing and complaining that goes on around here regarding Ryan Braun's $60M owed on his contract. Almost as if the contract was a poor one from the start. Were these same folks complaining when Ryan Braun was putting up top numbers while earning 380k in 2007, 455k in 2008, 745k in 2009, $4m in 2011 and so forth? How can one complain about the contract being an albatross when during a majority of the contract, it allowed the Brewers to compete somewhat and pay other players while other stars at the same time were earning far north of $10M, per year. I'm thinking contracts like Pujols, Josh Hamilton, etc. I think any amount that Ryan Braun is "overpaid" over the final 3-4 years of his deal was far worth the money saved during his first 10 seasons. And on top of that, it's not like he's a bad player, last season was an excellent year for him, and this year he's been an above average hitter. And below average on defense. So yippee we payed an average player $20mil.
  14. The option does not even exist. There was a threshold of games he got to that voided it.
  15. Actually wrong. Don't generalize. If you want to generalize why I think something I will generalize that everyone who thinks that deal is anywhere near acceptable has blinding fandom for Braun that is brighter than the sun. Regarding the above comment explaining how his pre arby years were cheap makes no sense. Just because we got a good deal to start doesn't mean we shrug our shoulders when we voluntarily resign a 30+ year old to a contract that turns sour. It was questionable at best to resign him so early and it is proving to be a mistake. Whatever makes you feel better I guess. The real problem is the fact we could have gotten out of a contract that was already going south and opted not to. Now it has fallen of a cliff this year and who knows if it gets better.
  16. Looking in retrospect is fun. I can look at every team's schedule and pick out bad stretches. There are 162 games. By the end you get what you deserve 9/10.
  17. Take care of business and win your own game. If the Rockies win tonight then so be it.
  18. I just love how one prediction can be so accurate, but at the same time the person predicting 86 wins also predicts Wily Peralta as our Cy Young.
  19. And eat 50%+ for nothing? Yah right. If we couldn't bite when the Dodgers offered us a decent deal I doubt he is ever moved. Only way you move him now is if he absolutely bombs next year and you can't stand even putting him on the field anymore with better options that are young. Fortunately(or unfortunately) I doubt he gets to be that terrible offensively.
  20. If that was the last time Chase Anderson pitches this season....what a fricken year man. WOW
  21. Ryan Braun was pretty disappointing this season. I guess the offense was still there overall, but add in the defense and he was an average player. Just not the difference maker he used to be and maybe just bad luck, but he was a joke with RISP. For $20mil I expect A LOT more. Sad Yasiel Puig is like well over 2x more than Ryan Braun for $12mil less a year.
  22. Trade already looking like a whiff. I am sure a big Braun fan can lay down some optimism, but Braun has greatly underperformed vs. Puig and that is just one part of that deal. We would have saved millions and gotten multiple prospects back on top of it. Here is to Braun turning things around next year because he has been terrible to end the season.
  23. Not to mention Chase Anderson looked terrible on the first pitch trying to bunt and it was actually a good one to get down. Why one would think the steal there is beyound me.
