  1. You are way way WAY too upset over a ticket sales number and a generic email. I mean why do you even care? They are trying to get fans excited and get good vibes from fans for next year. Big whoopie
  2. I would agree with 1 division title but I wouldn't say that it's not even remotely close. 2 Wild Cards gives you double the chances at a run. Two late Septembers of excitement (At minimum). Under the old system that would be enough for me to prefer the WC. But now that the WC is no longer guaranteed a playoff series, it's a lot different. I guess to fully answer the question I'd want more context -- are the Wild Card games at home? Are we the #1 seed as the division winner or the #3 and on the road in the first round? But all things being equal and having none of those answers, in our situation right now I'd rather miss the playoffs next year and win the division in 2019 than win the WC both years. Except wild card games are all or nothing. When we currently have a dominant ace I would hate to be in that position. Your one division title assures more games(3) than two WC appearances(2). While I think historically(small sample so far) wild card teams have done well in the NLDS over time I think their disadvantage will show. Also being a WC team I am going to assume our team is worse. I will take my one shot with a 95 win team vs. two 87 win teams. And as you said more context is meaningful. Are we a dominant WC like Arizona was and a division winner strength team just in the wrong division to actually win it? That matters. I don't want two appearances with the team we had this year.
  3. Division title and it isn't even remotely close....not even close.
  4. They have room to work with, but you can't forget about future arbitration salary increases or potential long term deals we may hand out. That will make a lot of that money disappear fast. Of course we also will be getting on that new TV deal bandwagon in 2-3 years too and dumping Braun's salary. While we won't have some fantasy land TV deal we will get a healthy bump compared to what we have now. They could easily make a major move without negatively hurting their payroll now or in the future. Do they do that in the coming years? That is the real question. I guess I don't see any excuse not to add some notable help the next few years. Even if that isn't a $20mil+ guy.
  5. $3mil seems pretty accurate for Jonathan Villar. If he was at SS still it would be notably higher. Jean Segura got $2.6mil a few years ago and he had a way worse offensive resume. He had the one good half season and 2.5 years of just terrible output. Villar can say he was good all of 2016 and has only one bad year.
  6. I've thought of that for years, literally years. It almost makes too much sense.
  7. If they trade Santana I'd put the odds it turns out to be an idiotic mood at about 70%. I can't see such a move happening. Trading him for prospects would be dumb when we are not rebuilding and he is young/cheap/controllable.
  8. The fact that terrible joke of a call to give the Cowboys 7 points instead of 3 on the opening drive almost was the difference maker in that game is terrifying. I mean what an absolute travesty that would have been.
  9. I think it's adorable that the writer thinks the Giants have enough prospects to get Santana. What terrible writing. Not only do they not have the prospects to get Santana, but even dumber is the fact Domingo Santana doesn't play CF...the point of the article. Not only a CFer, but one that plays good defense. I mean is it seriously that hard to look up Santana's defensive statistics and realize he would never play CF even remotely close to good?
  10. Counsell had way better defense.
  11. I just don’t know how someone could value Braun and Villar any worse than this proposal. A little dumbfounded actually. How did you come up with your assessment here? Well you could start off with the fact Ryan Braun probably had negative value even after his pretty impressive 2016(maybe he was just even). Then he had a pretty disappointing and for a $20mil man a pretty terrible year. Ryan Braun probably has a very sizable amount of negative trade value now. If you view Jonathan Villar as a potential starter still then he could recoup that negative value and maybe if a team is optimistic give it enough positive value to get something good back. You don't need to agree with him, but honestly that trade proposal value wise isn't that crazy. Ryan Braun has a ton of negative value and baggage around the league. That is just the reality of things.
  12. I actually said I hope we can find something better. I never said no matter what he shouldn't be on the 25 man or anything along those lines. Eric Sogard had incredibly inflated numbers the first half. Eric Sogard is nowhere remotely close to being a .485 SLG% guy. His second half I a heck of a lot closer to reality, if not reality. The major increase in OBP% skills is also questionable. Also probably a little inflated, but who knows there.
  13. Biloxi would be the best bet. There is nothing wrong with buying the Sky Sox etc. Don't get stuck on them being in Colorado right now, that means nothing. If you own them you could move them pretty much wherever you want. I don't think the hint there is owning a AAA team, but location of said team doesn't me anything.
  14. This seems ridiculous to me. Sure he had a career year, but high avg, high obp, some pop, and defensive versatility. He helped save our season. He’s unproven, but he was VERY good this year No, he was not VERY good this year. Feel free to pull out some accurate numbers to support that notion. He was carried by some ridiculous numbers when first brought up that are definitely not what he truly is. Look at those second half numbers. That is what he really is. He carried a prett high OBP compared to his AVG all year, but I'm not sure how true that is. Regardless this guy is definitely a below average hitter and possible straight terrible. He wasn't god awful terrible, but he really isn't something we should want...not great D and pretty good bet the offense is well below average. We should want better, that is not ridiculous.
  15. Every optimistic post sounds great until you get the the inevitable line towards the end about "If he is healthy" or "If he can play 125+ games".. That's exactly where the problem lies and I don't think anyone doubts a healthy Braun. Someone like adambr2 isn't arguing that. He simply doesn't think a healthy Braun is realistic.
  16. I like the effort, but I'd have to give him a B on that project. He forgot the Cardinals on the "don't like" side. No excuse there. Haha
  17. The Neil Walker grand slam game had to be my favorite. It was a great crowd loaded up to cheer them on in short notice. Everyone was on their feet and wanted that grand slam so bad. Walker obliged an gave us what we wanted. I really thought it was going to be a turning point on the season. The Travis Shaw walk off HR was also insane. Anytime a team hits a walk off HR when losing it is an instant classic. Gotta love it.
  18. Ever heard of money? It's this crazy thing that is #1 on every players list. You think he cares about playing SS that much? Don't think so. I don't think it is even possible, but it would make a ton of sense for Milwaukee.
  19. I wouldn't be surprised if they make a bullpen splash outside of Swarzak. Those guys can usually be had for shorter term deals. I wouldn't be shocked by a high profile move that costs a lot of money for the rotation. Personally I think Zack Cozart could be a really good target. Could be huge 2B upgrade and won't command a lot of years. His salary will be steep, but it will be off the books before it is a serious problem trying to retain our core if we want to.
  20. So what is being done about Braun's wrist? From what we know he had a cortisone shot(right?) and played through it? I would think some type of surgery is on the docket? If not I doubt his wrist issue is going to dissappear. Even with a surgery that could mess him up. Assuming Braun can start 120+ games is potentially a really generous statement. With planned off days that eats up all those missed games. Any real injuries is exactly how he ended up at 99 games started this year.
  21. Ryan Braun had 99 starts last season and he played a huge chunk of that injured. Your plan would have had him at like 60 games started. And the three seasons before that he played 135, 140, and 135 games. I think KeithStone's more on track than your rhetoric. Heck, even the fact that you won't give him his 104 games that he started because for some reason you won't count the DH makes me giggle. Because those games don't count... 95 games in LF 4 at DH 5 as PH

  23. @BrewerNation Someone said on paper the payroll next year looks like the payroll this year. Counsell: "I think David is going to do something about that." 11:21 AM · Oct 3, 2017
  24. You donn't have to have a designated 4th OF. No, you don't. However when all those guys are healthy someone is going to get the short end of the stick. Making Brinson/Phillips ride the bench for lengthy times or just not getting consistent playing time is questionable at best. Unless you instill a rotation between them where they all play consistently I wouldn't really want an inexperienced guy at #4.
  25. Yah it would be fantastic to add more contact vs. swing and miss that we have so much of. The problem is where do we change? Only place you can focus is 2B. I saw someome mention Zack Cozart. That is probably dream scenario add for this offseason just off the top of my head. To really make a strong difference one would have to make bold moves and trade away legit bats so we can replace them with someone more contact oriented. Would we really trade away a Santana/Thames/Shaw?
